  1. I bought the multi-stop BB1 Pro. I think it's 5.1:1. I used it most of the day yesterday. Lake is muddy so I threw lipless and shallow square bill cranks. I love to crank it into something like a log and then stop it and "back it up".
  2. I have 6 of the Cabelas Tournament ZX rods and I can't see me using any other style grip going forward. Absolutely fan-freaking-tastic. If I got into rod building, that's what I'd do. I went out yesterday and caught them on shallow squarebills and felt the wobble/ticking all the way.
  3. I need to look into this Humminbird ethernet and how that works with units. If this was computers, routers, switches, and firewalls, I would be much more comfortable with that IEEE 802.3 version of ethernet. Maybe it is the same and Humminbird is just putting proprietary connectors on it instead of RJ45's using 568B. A quick google search looks almost like coax barrel connectors though. One with data networking experience would say to connect the units directly through a cat6 crossover cable with RJ45 connectors. Or run them the same wau but through a layer 2 switch and straight through cables. The connectivity could be done at 1Gbps speeds to 5 units for about $50. But nooooo. Humminbird has to go do all this proprietary stuff that needs adapters.
  4. Haha. Well, I did write that while sitting on the can. Sorry. Yes, the 859 is down imaging, not side imaging. It's the 859ci HD DI. The 798 is the 798ci HD SI. As far as the screen quality, I suppose I was intending that to mean size. And thanks for the clarification on connecting them. I would still need to pick up the interlink equipment down the line. I do a fair amount of crappie/bluegill/redear fishing. It's about 50/50 between that and bass.
  5. I am looking for some advice. I have 3 Humminbird units: 180 (2D sonar, gray scale) 798 (side/down imaging, networkable, color) 859 (side imaging, networkable, color) The 859 has a much better screen than the 798 but no side imaging. This goes on an Alumacraft Pro 175 with a 60hp So I'm on a lot of 10hp/no wake/electric only lakes. The 180 is at the console already So I've thought about putting the 798 with it and putting the 859 on the bow. What would you all do?

I still have a pile of Speed Craws and Z-Hogs each in the smaller and larger version. I don't see what these could do different.
  7. Bass Pro has their Crankin Stick in a 7'6" MH that is telescopic down to about 6'8". It's a nice rod and is rated for 3/8 to 1.5 ounce plugs. While not rated for 2oz, that would encompass the 1.3oz Strike King 8XD. The 10XD is a tad over 1.9oz.
  8. Cabelas was running a sale that had a President and an IM7 rod combo'd together for like $60 or so. I bought the combo a couple years ago and it's been great. I got a 7' ML with the President and I use it for dropshotting and have got crappie with it as well.
  9. All of the above is the easy, safe answer. I think for the average bass fisherman, a decent reel is the best investment. A guy can get by with a Berkley Cherrywood pretty well depending on the lure but if he's throwing it with a $10 Walmart reel that has no drag or busts on the first trip, that's unacceptable. And plenty of good bass fishermen on here use cheap Big Game. I think the most intricate, moving, mechanical piece is the reel (duh) and if it's junk, there's nothing you can do about it and it ruins the whole game. A $20 rod and $3 line will work fine for a lot of things.
  10. I only carry 6 spinnerbaits. Chartreuse, Chartreuse and white, and white all in 3/8oz. I have 3 in double willow and 3 in double Colorado blades. To me, any bigger, smaller, or different color means they are looking for a different bait.

I keep Zoom Fish Doctors and Centipedes in my bag burried at the bottom. They're my last ditch shot before I come up skunked. Fish Doctors and Centipedes are 4" and I like them Texas rigged or wacky depending on cover and almost always weightless. I believe mine are green pumpkin and junebug. Once summer gets here and the submergent grass gets up, I am going to try them on a mojo rig. Some like them on a Carolina rig.
  12. I have a 7'3" H ***. I also have a 7'1" MH ***. I agree wholeheartedly with the comment about them having nice blanks and uncomfortable handle/grips. It bothered me so much, I got new rods. I went to thr Cabelas Tournament ZX and I like them much better. Side by side, I pitch the ZX more accurately and with less effort in my backyard but I don't know if that's because of a slightly softer tip or more comfortable and longer grip.
  13. Well, I have finally backed the wrong horse with a Cabela's product. I bought a 7'6 XH telescopic handle Fish Eagle 50. By all accounts, this should have been a good rod. What I found is that it is terribly heavy and unbalanced. With a Lew's Tournament Speed Spool (no line) sitting on it, its balance point is a full 8" in front of the reel seat. Retracted into the handle, it balances 3" out. I can't imagine how uncomfortable it would be with a 1.5oz weight tied on. I knew I'd give p a little bit going with the telescopic but that's more than I bargained for. Now I'm debating on whether to get a BPS Extreme that is telescopic or just keep using my 7'3 H rod. The smart man probably would.
  14. I used Okeechobee Craw to some good success. I also like a junebug for deeper but still clear. I had one day where a Houdini color was unstoppable. I need to pick up some for this year in plain old pumpkin. I used to do so well with pumpkin worms about 20 years ago. Very very opaque with a hint of orange.
  15. Cabelas Tournament ZX. I bought a stack of ZX rods and I'm selling all of my Omens.
  16. My fun fishing gear for bank fishing and stuff like that is 2 rods. A 7' casting snd 6'6 spinning rod. I use 12 and 8# Big Game respectively. Works fine. Cheap. Breakable if necessary when bank fishing. Tough when hitting cover and hooked up.
  17. Tournament Pro, Tournament, and Speed Spool LFs are three different models. I own the Tournament and the Tournament Pro. For the money, I like the Tournament better. I don't discern that much difference. If a TP is $160 and I've seen Cabelas carry Tournaments at $100, you can buy 3 Tournaments for every two Pro models. As far as the standard LFS Speed Spool, I think for the few extra dollars to get a Tournament at $99-120, you'd be a fool to get it. If you want to go Lew's (all of my reels are Lew's) and you ate budgeted, get Tournaments and BB1's. I like my TP and BB1 Pro but my BB1 and Tournaments work just as well. (Note, the BB1 Pro is dual braking, the BB1 is centrifugal only)
  18. So I need the seat, a 3/4" pin type seat bracket, and a screw in pedestal? I think this is where I get confused. Am I looking for everything: part that screws into the deck all the way up to the seat? Or am I looking just for the seat down to the current pedestal I have? I'm about 6'1" tall. Is there a recommended pedestal height for all people? A "one size fits most" as it were?
  19. I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question. I had a post about this in December but I didn't have any picture to help with the description. I need a standup seat. I have bad low back problems. Standing all day unsupported really aggravates my back. I don't really know what to buy. I have a 2012 Alumacraft Pro 175. The seats that came with it have a bracket with a metal post that fit into another metal tube that screws into a hole in the deck. The seats swivel on top of the metal tube that screws into the deck. Can anyone help me out with what each part is specifically called and what all I should buy? I have seen multiple types and I'm just not clear on it. I have a better, higher quality picture if needed.
  20. Per the sale ad I got earlier this week, their "Spring Great Outdoor Days" run March 12 through April 6. 30% off other Cabelas rods too so the Crankshaft will go back on sale and the ZX stays on sale. And $60 for Fenwick Silverhawks.
  21. I carry 2. I also do this when I am fun fishing from someone else's boat. These are lower end setups. I won't take my nicer stuff to the bank and I won't litter up a buddy's boat. 1.) 7' MH/F BPS Tourny Special (casting);BPS Extreme reel 6.4:1; 12# Big Game 2.) 6'6 M/F BPS Tourny Special (spinning); BPS Extreme reel 2500 size; 8# Big Game
  22. X2 I have my Cabelas 7'3" H/F ZX and tomorrow I'm putting in an order for a Cabelas Fish Eagle 50 7'6" H/XF.
  23. Wait until Thursday. Cabelas will have their Fish Eagle 50 rods on sale for $45. One heck of a deal.
  24. Snell knot is legit. I use it for almost all of my Texas rigging. I use Palomar for everythimg else since I don't have mono on any setup on my good stuff. I do have 8# and 12# Big Game on a 6'6" M spinning and 7' MH casting respectively that are my fun fishing setup and that's always a trilene knot.
  25. I think the Cabelas Fish Eagle 50 line of rods will be on sale for $45 on Thursday. I hear good things about them.
