  1. To be fair, I was going off forum posts and tacklewarehouse reviews which are going to be inherently skewed either direction. But I really have no other way of getting information like that unless I make a separate thread. I've just seen through those that some of the higher power Destroyer blanks seem to have an issue with breaking.
  2. I thought that only the Destroyers had widespread issues with their blanks snapping. Its also a problem with the Orochi's?
  3. Hey guys still thinking about which new rod/combo to get and and now looking at the new Orochi line that dropped. If I was just to get one rod in the time being, for applications such as texas rigs, jigs and pitching light cover, what would you guys recommend? I am leaning towards the brailist but there is also the EMTF and perfect pitch models that seem applicable. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  4. It might be a bit before it happens but now I'm somewhat torn between getting a new combo with the powell or buying one the of the new Orochi XX rods. Probably wont be until black friday sale either way.
  5. Looking to dive into a different line of rods and I am looking at the new Powell Endurance. Only thing is my #1 pet peeve is having a tip heavy rod. Just wondering if anyone has got their hands on any of these and can comment on this aspect. Thanks.
  6. I live in Chapel Hill NC but go to school in the mountains in Boone. Been having a tough time finding any areas to fish for any type of bass. Only seems to be trout around here. If anyone has any experience catching bass around the Boone NC area it would be a great help and much appreciated. Thanks.
  7. Have never had a problem with my Lew's reels per say but I have never been blown out of the water by them. They are solid performers and that's it. As far as Abu goes, I was not impressed with my Gen 3 Revo STX. Had a lot of problems with casting and just didn't feel worth the money to me. That being said I haven't had an Abu since then, maybe the new generation is more refined. Shimano on the other hand has done well for me, in many facets of fishing. I've used both saltwater and freshwater and spinning and baitcasting and never had an issue. Personally speaking, I think that the new DC is going to be a hit, and a big one at that. If the DC is the usual Shimano quality then I would be leaning in that direction. Been a long time since I have been seriously tempted to buy a reel but the bait monkey may have one this time...
  8. I have full handle cork rods which I like a lot but I am not a fan of foregrips. I just think they look dated. Plus I have never really had a need to grip the rod that high for extra leverage aside from maybe trying to free a snag. It's definitely useful when saltwater fishing offshore though.
  9. I don't agree with the no waiting thing but I feel like some people get the wrong idea. Waiting for me means seeing the blow up and giving the fish maybe a second to take the bait in better. I'm not looking at the watch and counting out 10 seconds or something. This differs from say texas rig or jig fishing where my reaction is nearly instant when I feel the bite.
  10. I don't usually use a leader for texas rigging but it's because the areas I fish don't really require it. I would probably end up tying one if I was fishing rock or extremely clear water. I use braid often and I'd rather not fray off a fish.
  11. I personally don't own any falcon rods but it's really great to see a company in the fishing industry going out of their way to help you like that. Too many companies are making it increasingly difficult to get aftermarket support. Not even necessarily talking about fishing here either.
  12. I think that the best way would be to put the rattles inside the bait like what was mentioned before. Personally I feel as if putting beads on the leader would not necessarily impede the action as much as it would just make the bait nose down quickly after twitches. To me jerkbait fishing has a lot to do with how the bait suspends or doesn't suspend for that matter, in the water. I guess this would also depend on the design of the bait though...

Agree with what has been said above. Would make it unnecessarily difficult to drive the hook through the fishes mouth and would cause more damage while removing it. No reason.
  14. Deps Slither K or Buster K. I use them mainly in a white or black color.
  15. O shoot, need to pay more attention when I'm responding.
  16. Yea I usually just oil the bearings on either side of the spool, helps extend bearing life and increases smoothness. You can get a q-tip and clean the insides of them as well.
  17. Yea I think you should be fine unless you are fishing an ultralight rod or something.
  18. Oh I just skimmed over that and did not quite get the full gist of the question before responding. I apologize.
  19. As a cancer survivor myself I am saddened to hear that someone close to you and a fellow fisherman has passed to this terrible disease. I wouldn't wish this on anyone, prayers go out to all whom he knew and all who were affected.
  20. Well if I told you guys then other people might start doing it... Seems like a catch 22 to me.
  21. Definitely budget dependent. Do you need a $300 rod for fishing moving baits? Probably not. Do you need a $190 rod even to begin with? Probably not. Is the $300 rod going to feel better and more refined in the hands vs. the $190 rod? Yes.

If I was personally tasked with doing something like this I would try and cover as many types of fishing as I could. Meaning, have some moving baits, topwater, bottom contact, hardbaits etc. So for me it would be something like this. 1x Squarebill Crankbait 1x Topwater Hardbait or buzzbait 1x Pack of straight tail worms 2x jigs in applicable colors 1x Pack of jig trailers 1x Pack of creature baits Hooks/weights to go with the various rigs that I'm guessing he would need to learn. At least with something like this he would be able to figure out what type of fishing he prefers fairly quickly without much of a monetary investment in any one particular method. It would also kind of depend on where he plans on fishing as to how effective certain presentations would be.
  23. I mean this is purely an opinion based question/statement you made so everyone is going to have a slightly different answer by nature. As far as only needing one of two combos for fishing that is completely personal and only applies to you. Some people might only feel like they need a single combo and others an entire room full. It could depend on factors like what type of fishing you like doing, geographical location etc. You can make the sport as cheap or as expensive as you want. However, to point at someone who has most likely invested their hard earned money in a boat and say hes naive for doing so is not the right frame of mind. I'm sure everyone including the man that made the comment has something in his life he spends a relative large amount of his income on because he enjoys doing so. For me that is cycling and fishing. As long as I am making (somewhat) smart decisions with my money and having fun in the process I will continue to do so. .02
  24. Personally I am all about the bottom contact type of fishing. Not a big fan of just reeling in a reaction bait but to me pitching a jig and getting that ThUnK of a bite cant be beat. So much so it is probably my downfall a good amount of the time. I prefer this type of fishing so much that I will do it even when conditions point to other presentations being more effective. Oh well, its about having fun after all.
  25. Texas rigged creature bait such as a pit boss or d bomb. Also I have been having a good amount of luck with popping hollow body frogs this year. Deps Buster K has been good for me but they are a bit pricey.
