  1. I was able to cast weightless flukes, pit bosses and trick worms with my Gen 3 STX on a Champion 703.
  2. My Gen 3 Revo STX went through a phase were it was constantly backlashing, all I did was clean it and that seemed to work. It may have been my extremely dirty side plate not allowing the magnetic brakes to do their job.
  3. When using jigs with heavy weights (large heads), generally football jigs, you need to reel down on the fish and load up the rod tip and then sweep. This will pull the head of the jig out of the fishes mouth and allow for the hook to penetrate. If you set the hook hard and fast it will effectively blow the fishes mouth open and pull the jig completely out, thus missing the fish. I just dont think the hook was in the fishes mouth very well.
  4. Im looking into getting a new Dobyns Champion rod, mainly for squarebills and medium diving crankbaits but I will also use it for jerkbaits, poppers, lipless and spooks. Im not sure whether to go with a glass or graphite rod. Also could you recommend what power to buy if im only going to be throwing baits up to 1/2-5/8 ounce.
  5. Dobyns Champion 734 Old Daiwa Zillion 7.1 15lb Seaguar Flouro
  6. I am getting into flipping wood and brush piles and wanted to know which type of line was the best at it. I was told by a local bass pro that fluorocarbon is not the best for flipping wood because it tends shatter under high strain in cover, he said that heavy mono filament was best for flipping wood and brush. Can anyone shed some light on this topic and help me out?
  7. Dobyns Champion 734 or 735 depending on cover. Usually either have a finesse jig with an excite baits raptor chunk on or an arky head.
  8. Actually upgrading bearings is very easy so don't be discouraged. There are plenty of videos on Youtube on how to install them as well.
  9. You should go look on Youtube for bearing upgrades on bait casters so you can really see the difference they make.
  10. The upgraded bearings (Orange Seals, AiR) have a much lower amount of friction so they increase free spool and effectively increase casting distance as well.
  11. Is the dx745 too stiff to cast 3/8 ounce jigs?
  12. I need two rods that would allow me to do basically anything. I was looking into getting a Dx 744 and a Champion 703 for smaller baits like senkos and flukes
  13. I'm looking into getting 2 Dobyns rods in the near future and I'll be ordering one of them in the next few days. I already have a Champion 734 and was wanting to know if I could only get 2 more rods to round out my collection which should I get? One of them can be a Dx and the other a Champion.
  14. My favorite jig reel is the Daiwa Zillion, but I've heard good things about the Tatulas but not much on the 8.1:1 gear ratio.
  15. The Daiwa Lexa can be found on TW for 70 bucks in 6.4 gear ratio. Another reel I would recommend is the Lews Laser MG speel spool.
  16. Been doing pretty well lately on Texas rigged baby brush hogs, stick baits and finesse jigs to imitate bluegill.

I'm looking to buy some new jigs from TW. Do any of you guys know of any finesse jigs or football jigs that are hand tied?
  18. I've heard that the Curado I has quite a few problems with the new braking system. It seems to make a lot of noise and vibration on the cast and the side plate cant be closed when the spool tension nob is tightened down which was a deal breaker for me. I don't know why a huge corporation like Shimano would release a reel that has an issue like that...
  19. I would probably go with either the Lews American Hero Combo or get the Daiwa Lexa from TW for $70 and pick up a rod somewhere else. I know Shimano has some entry level casting rods ( Sellus, Convergence) for around $50 and $60 respectively, although I haven't used either of them.
  20. Just wanting to know what you guys would throw in a reservoir that has pretty clear water and a TON of vegetation, it literally covers the entire bottom but it is all submerged. I've had some decent success in the past with spinner baits and rattle traps.
  21. Powerteam Lures Hog Tonic
  22. Is there much of a difference between the 15 and 13 Metanium?
  23. Just saw that the Metanium 13 was the same price as the 2015 Aldebaran. What reel would be better suited for an all around reel? I'm going to be putting this reel on my Champion 734.
  24. I'm looking into buying a new aldebaran and was wanting to know where to buy one for the best price. It seems like the best prices come directly from Japan. Does anyone have any experience ordering from stores like Japanlureshop? I'm guessing that the shipping and return policy is going to be kind of tricky from the US.
