  1. Switched over to 40lb braided line and bought a Lew's tournament speed spool along with a Mojo Bass rod. After figuring out the breaking system I fished 10hrs straight with not one major backlash had a few hick ups but came out instantly. The Lews reel is a much better reel than my black max combo from Cabelas. The braking system seems to work for me much better on the Lew's. Thanks for all the advice! Think Ill stick to the braid for now I did tie a flouro leader on though seemed to work great.
  2. *Update* Well finally made it out and ended up going to Wilson this weekend. The lake was beautiful nothing like I have ever seen in Kansas. I was able to land my first smallmouth and striper, so it was a succesful trip. Friday was nuts on the water I only fished a couple of hours in the late evening wind was in upper 20mph range all day and temps in the 50s. Saturday morning we hit it early after sleeping in the tent and waking up to 34 degrees, however there was not a hint of wind and the lake was a sheet of glass. Fishing was tough though I only caught 5 for the day, but I was glad to get out there. I will defienitly be going back up there in the future. Next long trip will more than likely be Tinkiller.
  3. Pretty sure I have it set up properly. I have watched a ton of youtube videos between youtube and bassresource recomended videos from tying line on to casting and even working a backlash out. I just need more practice at it, but line breaking is my biggest problem. I need a more user friendly line for sure till I do become better at casting the new reel. Also I noticed a lot of people having issues in the post about the reel I have. Maybe I need to invest in a new reel. I think I will give the braid a try. 17$ for a spool of fc is killing my budget. Thanks for all the suggestions.
  4. Zoom brush hog regular or baby and Rage Craw.
  5. Need some help here. Pretty new to baitcaster, so I still get the few birds nest each trip. My problem the last two trips is that my line will get a little kinked during the nesting, but I am able to get cleaned up fairly quick. Its like my line is breaking everywhere I had some kinking. Ill go to make a long cast and my line will break mid air and I'm not digging the loss of a lure for no reason. Seaguar brand 17lb fluorocarbon on a Abu black max reel. Thinking about going with like a 50lb braid and tying a fluorocarbon leader on. Any suggestions would be great. Re stringing a reel every week is getting expensive. Throwing jigs and texas rigged plastics mainly too with this reel. Thanks
  6. Thanks i like it so far only complaint is that I'll never buy one with a dual console again. Feel like the second console is a waste of space. Live and learn still a great boat though.
  7. 1997 Ranger R82 just got this summer. Has a 150 merc. My first bass boat.
  8. So is this sand pit open to public or do i need to get permission from owner? Boats allowed? I would love to increase my chances of landing a big lm. Pm me info.
  9. I am fairly new to Bass Fishing, so I am slowly learning new baits and techniques. I was able to acquire a nice boat this summer, so I have really became addicted. Before I got the boat I was bank fishing all the little Wichita area public ponds. Now that I have the boat my bass fishing fun has over tripled in the fun factor. I was introduced to Butler by a friend earlier this year and I got my personal best 3-4 pounder 19". I have caught every trip I have been on this year and to me that's a good day fishing compared to lots of days on the bank with nothing. I recently went to Marion Lake and had a good day no monsters but me and two buddies caught close to 20 total for the day. Last weekend headed up to McPherson State Fishing Lake and it was slow going for me, but me and my two sons were able to pull out 8 total biggest one only 15". However I watched a guy pull 3 fish 5lbs plus and was amazed. I have never fished in that type of water so much vegetation and weeds every where. Trolling motor was just cutting through it and I was hating it. Met the guy at docks when we pulled out and he told me he was using 1 1/4 ounce jig and punching through. So after that information I logged onto *** and picked up 6 jigs and some trailers and of course started hitting youtube and bassresource.com to learn how to use these things. New to baitcaster as well, but I already got the pitching bit down, so I am looking forward to going back out to McPherson. What about Wilson lake? My friends im going with are trying to talk me into Wilson, but im still leaning towards Perry. Any info on Wilson. Ive never even caught a small mouth yet, but they look fun too. Im heading to one of them early probably head out around 3am so we can be on the water at first light. Thanks for the responses.

Thanks for the input guys this helps me out for my next hook purchase.
  11. Tenkiller was my number one choice. Smaller the lake the better since it will just be a weekend trip. Gives me a chance to cover more of the lake. Any recommendation on a good starting point as far as location on the lake? Thanks for the input Mike!

What size worm hook should i use? I am fishing a 17lb flourocarbon line on a medium heavy fast action rod? I was using a 5/0 size when i first started, but now have been using a 3/0. Usually fish a lot of zoom brush hogs, lizards, rage crawls, and frogs. Thanks
  13. Looking for some opinions on what lake to go to next weekend. I live 20 min outside of Wichita and I am thinking about heading north a couple of hours. My options are Perry, Melvern, or Tuttle Creek. Fairly new to Bass fishing and boat fishing. Also im looking to head to oklahoma in the next few weeks and would like some opinions on the 3 lakes im looking at there. Tinkiller, Arbuckles, and Grand. So far im pretty basic and all my fishing consist of cruising shore line casting to bank and reeling back, which has worked out really great, because I have yet to not caught something with this method. Thanks
  14. Hello everyone. Have very little bass fishing, but was just introduced 2 years ago to it. I have always fished for the big Kansas cats from the banks. My bass fishing has been limited to the Wichita area from the banks. I have 2 teenage boys that love to fish so I got 2 great fishing buddies already. I recently went out with a coworker who has a Ranger which pretty much ignited a bass fishing fire under my rear end. I had the best day ever in my entire 2 previous years on that boat. So I went and bought a Ranger last week, so I need to learn as much about techniques, equipment, baits, everything. Stumbled across a youtube video by glenn. He has the best informational videos on youtube. Hey says to check out this site for all my bass fishing needs. So here I am! I took my kids out to a state fishing lake about an hour from my house and we had a great day. My first fish on boat a catfish on a rage craw.....lol. My kids both caught nice 17-18" and we were able to bring a dozen LMB's on in only 3 hours. Glad to be a new member on what looks to be a great forum.
