I have a few baitballs (not sure of the yearling, specifically) and they work about as well as any other hardbaits of their kind. The look neat, but I haven't seen that the bait ball concept is more effective than anything else. Actually, I feel this way about every livetarget bait -- on sale they're worth it (i like their crappie crankbaits and hollow bodied frogs, especially), but at full retail I'm paying for design concepts and pretty finishes that don't quite add enough value in my opinion over less expensive options. YMMV.

Well, that's not all loon deaths. It's a sample, taken to obtain an estimate of the rate. You could never examine all loon deaths since nobody could ever recover all loon carcasses. If half of the carcasses you find are deaths attributable to lead ingestion, what fraction of the carcasses you didn't find are due to lead ingestion? Or rather, what reasons are there to think half is an overestimate? If it could be an overestimate, it could just as well be an underestimate. I don't see why you should expect loons to respect state borders, or expect lead sinkers already present at the bottoms of lakes before the ban magically disappear after the ban. Look. nobody on this board has a truly objective view of this. The OP is asking enthusiasts if they agree with efforts to make their fun time less affordable and more inconvenient. Everyone agrees, "yes, lets look at the evidence", and then immediately find reasons (agendas, politics, motivations, sensationalism, etc.) to ignore reports of evidence whenever it tells them things they don't want to hear.

I have a 6'8" MXF in the Avid X line, and it is pretty much the perfect spinning rod. I use it for weightless plastics mostly, esp. senkos and flukes, but it handles tubes, grubs, shakyheads, ned rigs, topwaters, jerkbaits, and even drop shot like a champ (although I'm not much of a dropshotter).

I don't have this problem with any of my Aetos rods, but it does happen with some reels on my Elite Tech Smallmouth rods. Easily solved with the electrical tape trick mentioned above.

Hmm. This should have started by now I think. I don't see anything about it. I was hoping to get a gift card at 10% off again.

Pretty much any watermelon or green pumpkin colored jig makes a decent approximation to a bluegill. Many companies make jigs, bladed/vibrating jigs, and spinnerbaits with bluegill-patterned skirts, too.

Gonna give it a shot and get some more if I like it!

--4" to 6" straight tailed worms, like zoom trick worm or biospawn plasmatail. --any little creature bait; some of the ones I've used recently, off the top of my head,: Zoom Baby Brush Hog, Netbait Baby Action Cat, V&M J-bug, Big Bite Baits Kriet Creature. --haven't tried hula grubs on a mojo, but that sounds like a great idea.

A few small orders coming in this week. Some crankbaits (LC, SK, 6th sense, Bandit), a couple SK plastics, z-man hula stickz, a project z chatterbait, and shroomz finesse jigs. flipping hooks. owner brush heads. A pompadour. And another Tatula reel. EDIT: Here we go, minus the reel which should arrive at my doorstep any moment:

Yeah, I've had good success with both of those frogs. For purchasing I'll pull the trigger on Livetargets if I see a good deal, but at full price, pad crasher all the way. I haven't really found any advantages over the pad crasher to be worth the extra price for most other frogs.

It seems kind of obvious, but I haven't seen it mentioned (although basically the same advice as The Reel Ess' trick worm, er..trick): When you have 4"+ creature baits, fish them on a texas rig first. Then, once the nose gets torn up, cut off the first 1/2" and use as a jig trailer. I do this with Rage tail space monkeys and Zoom baby brush hogs all the time. And invest in a lure-retriever!! It will pay for itself almost immediately.

Braid for frogs and most texas rigs and jigs in vegetation, sometimes shakyheads, senkos, ned rigs and other plastics on spinning. Mono or copolymer for most everything else, especially moving baits, topwaters, and anything with trebles. Fluoro is the only one I don't use.

I get to fish approximately from April through September, with most of those days coming may-august. 2-3 times per week, usually weekday mornings, during weeks when I don't have too many other obligations in the way. I'm guessing this year was 40-45 days, most of which were 3-5 hours on/in/at the water.
