  1. Welcome to the forums, Ryan! No nagging here. We are all here to learn from eachother. I'm a pretty new member myself and just over the past few months I've learned a ton from the guys and gals on here. I'm also in the NE Philadelphia Burbs. Penn Warner Club in Tullytown is where I fish most. Do you shore fish or do you have boat access? - Dale
  2. OK I know where you are talking about. What is that lake like? Looks small from the map. Electric only? What are the depths like? I think PWC only has hydro maps for Sciver and Manor.
  3. I havent been to UVS much. Stupid question. Where is Morrisville Lake? I hear people talking about it but I know of Van sciver and Manor.
  4. Thanks! Middle Van Sciver on the on the point by the bridge to Lower Van Sciver. Caught 3 right there. That smallie, and 2 LMB, 1 was about 1.5lbs and the other was about 2.5lbs. We've fished that lake for years and that was the first smallie we've pulled from the lake. 5lb11oz smallie is a hell of a fish! Are you a BCAC member? The algae bloom was scumming everything up but the fish didnt seem to mind it. Where were you fishing? We beat up the southern shoreline of of MVS with no luck, then we got to the point at the outlet to LVS and caught those 3. Caught a few more around 10ish on spinnerbaits on the eastern shore heading up to UVS, where the docks are.
  5. Good day on Sunday! Dropped the boat in Sciver around 530am. Bite didnt start until late though, which I thought was odd considering the full moon. First bite came around 7am, which was a 4+lb smallie on a pearl white fluke minnow (picture below). 5-6 largemouth all around 2 lbs, a monster crappie. Very fun morning.
  6. I absolutely LOVE fishing a Zara Spook. There is nothing like seeing a fish explode on a spook.
  7. Hey everyone, I have an '05 Stratos 275XL. I just started getting back into fishing and using the boat again. As I was out on the water last weekend I realized, "wow, these electronics are ancient." I am looking to upgrade from the Lowrance Mark 4 (at the helm) and the Lowrance X52 on the bow. The Mark 4 transducer is on the transom, the X52 transducer is on the trolling motor. I've had my eye on the Lowrance HDS-5. I want to keep the cost as low as possible, but I don't want to wind up getting crappy electronics. For now, since the budget is tight, I'm considering upgrading just 1 of the units and then upgrading the other in the spring. I want something that is easily upgradable in the future. I want to eventually put side imaging transducers on and possibly other sensors. Not sure how "energy efficient" the new color screen models are? What electronics do you all have? I'm looking for opinions, suggestions, comments, concerns... Thanks in advance for the help!! -Dale
  8. Thanks for the reminder, Sam. It's true that us younger folk don't give too much thought to sun protection, but it is something that can't be ignored. Sunny day/cloudy day, people need to be careful. I recently started paying much more attention to it becuase I started shaving my head, so I do everything I can to avoid getting a burnt scalp. I usually put on 45-5o spf and then wear a hat to be sure. I am actually on the hunt for some nice fishing shirts/pants that help with sun protection. A lot of people forget about their legs and top of their feet when they apply sunscreen too! Does anyone know of any good "fisherman" sunscreen? Something to avoid deterring fish from the bait because of the scent that regular sunscreen leaves behind? -Dale
  9. I havent found/realized a foolproof way to find what baits you need to re-seal and which ones you dont. I DO know that I've learned the hard way with a few of them. Berkley Powerbaits and their Gulp line are 2 of which I've learned need to be resealed. Ive not, they get hard as rocks and need to be trashed. My tactic is, if it feels slimy/wet when it comes out of the bag, keep it in that same bag and seal it.
  10. Just got off the water (Manor). We dropped the boat in at 5:30. Rough day on the water. Got 1 small LM running a spinnerbait about 9 ft deep around 9:15 and a few white bass. Only saw 1 other fish caught and that was on live minnows.
  11. Heading out tomorrow morning. I think there was/is a night tournament on Sciver tonight so my thought is they will rip that lake up during the tourny. Going to try some top water tomorrow and see how that works.
  12. Thanks DelcoSol. I'm hoping to get out of work a little early tomorrow and hit Sciver for a few hours until sunset. If you go out early and think about it, post to let us know how you hit 'em? Last weekend was our first out and we did alright. Ironing out the kinks and getting back int othe groove really, but we caught a few. Good luck tomorrow! - Dale
  13. I direct tie pretty much everything. I use a swivel on fluke soft baits. I'll usually put a swivel about 1.5ft-2ft above the hook. IMO it serves 2 purposes for a fluke minnow, #1 it stops your line from twisting in the event that the fluke gets fouled and starts to spin while reeling it in. #2, I think it actually helps with the action of a fluke or soft jerkbait. It adds a bit of weight so the fluke will dive (slowly mind you) in a nose first position. It sounds crazy but if you ora family member or friend have a pool, do some experimenting to see how different baits react to different swivels and swivel sizes. You might be able to teach all of us a thing or 2. - Dale
  14. Thanks for the pointers Tom. I'll put the tips to use next weekend.
  15. No replies, but I'm posting again to this to give an update and possibly get some people who fish the lake to start talking a little bit. The water was ranging from 79 to 81 degrees, depending on the section of the lake. I caught about a 2.5 pounder in about 15 ft of water on a fluke that I was running at about 2 ft. Didn't have any bites for a while, then I switch to a crankbait and slow rolled it right at the drop off from about 8 to 15 ft. Hooked up to about 30 white bass and perch, but no go on the LM. Boated a dink LM on a Sassy Shad around some shallow structure at about 9 when the wind picked up a little bit. Just enough to put some chop on the water. Then 1 more LAZY LM in about 4ft of water on teh shore side of a weed bed at around 10:30. When I say lazy, I mean I thought I was hooked on weeds because the fish didnt move at all until I had it at the side of the boat. He just kind of slurped in the Sassy Shad and held on for the ride. I switched my game and beat up the edge of an open water weed bed with a crank and a tube bait. No luck, only white bass and perch. Then I drifted over the middle of the weed bed and dropped a 6 inch purple worm into the holes in the middle of the weed bed. Got a few hits but no hookups. Any pointers/info/comments/concerns......anything? Bueller.....Bueller.......
  16. I'm just getting back into the bass fishing thing, but I made 1 observation about your original post. It seems like you are targeting all of the same structure types. Gradual/steep rises in deep water. I'm not familiat with the fishing in your area, but I would switch my my target locations a little bit to see if you can find a different pattern. Maybe you can hook into some early morning feeders in shallows, or on the edge of drop offs right by the shallows. Like I said, its been a while since I've fished for bass, but I'd try switching it up. If you were losing crawfish, to me that indicates that it's most likely little dinks messing with you.
  17. Hey all, Has anyone fished the Penn Warner lakes lately? If so, which lake did you fish? How'd you make out? I'm going tomorrow morning for the first time in a long time. Looking forward to responses!
  18. Hey all! This is the first forum site I've joined. I'm 25 years old from the suburbs of northeast Philadelphia. Used to be an avid fisherman with the old man and Beltzville, Nockamixon, Core Creek (lake Luxemburg), Neshaminy Creek and we were members at the Penn Warner Club. We also used to take trips to Canada and fish the lakes of the Rideu (sp?) Canal. Unfortunately we took a break from fishing for a number of years, but we are back at it! This Saturday is going to be our first time back out on the water in a long time. Does anyone fish Penn Warner? How has the fishing been? I can only imagine that this heat has been beating up Manor Lake. I'm really looking forward to meeting some new fishing buddies!
