  2. Agree with everyone. I tried removing the gut hook from behind the Gill but it was just so d**n deep. I had never seen anything like it. As far as the fish went, I don't support taking fish from a catch and release Lake. However, since it was already dead, I didn't want the fish going to waste so I brought it to the bank and gave it to them to eat. My fear is that it'll further support the illegal activity they are engaging in and give them the impression that other anglers will support their actions.
  3. Its a catch and release lake. Nothing wrong with harvesting your own fish. Do it where its allowed. Just my two cents..
  4. So, this morning, my good buddy and I set out to do some kayak fishing at a lake near by. We got an early start and got a few fish, but nothing to brag about. Unfortunately, about 15 minutes before leaving, I landed an awesome 5lber that fought like hell. The unfortunate part is that the fish swallowed my bait the second it hit the water, and when I set the hook, gut hooked. It took me about 3-4 min before I finally got the hook out, but it was too late for the fish. I swam her back and forth, but she didn't make it. Ok, I get it, sometimes it happens. Now, the question is, what do you do with the fish? This particular lake has a huge problem of people fishing it and keeping all of the catches. Catfish, bluegill, crappie, bass, anything! They are clearing out the lake, and soon there will be no fish for anyone! However, many of these people are of a lower income and are trying to feed themselves, as well as their family. What should I have done? Leave the fish floating belly up, and let nature takes its toll, or, give the fish to some of the people who were fishing from the bank and letting them take this big ol bass? My fear by doing the latter is that I will be condoning that behavior. Just curious as to see yalls opinions! Thanks in advance for your responses -Gabe
  5. Wright and McGill Skeet Reese cranking rods are at dicks and Walmart from $60-$70. These are really high quality rods. I read some other user mention the Academy Sports rods, H20 express.. I have never had any experience with their rods but my buddy has a reel from them and I use their hard baits. Both of those are amazing products
  6. OK man, I respect your opinion. As for the original post and question, please obviously people here have different views and no one really knows. Do what you think is right.
  7. Nope, not trolling at all. I respect private property. If there is a no fishing sign or no trespassing sign, then no one should be fishing at that particular spot. Unless permission has been obtained. In this particular case, we are speaking of an industrial building where permission to fish would be difficult to achieve because finding the land owner is d**n near impossible. All I am saying is, proceed with caution, and if you are asked to leave, apologize, then leave and do not return. IMO, this does not create a dishonest fishermen. FWIW, lighten up..
  8. This is terrible advice, but I have found it much easier to ask for forgiveness instead of permission. Most people will ask you to leave, and as long as you're not a jerk no legal ramifications will come your way. Fish at your own risk though! Haha. Sometimes the temptation of finding a sweet honey hole is too strong man.. Lol
  9. Good question, I am also interested in this. I love the invisx and was wondering the same thing..
  10. I have had one for a total of 5 days! Haha! So far, I am really impressed. I don't know much about quantum and I've never had any experience with their customer service department. You can throw light lures with no issue. Feels very sturdy in your hands. My only complain is the drag. Mine is a 7.1:1 and it claims to have 17 lbs of drag. No way, it probably maxes around 10-12lbs
  11. Hey everyone! I should have done this first, but I got overly excited and started posting straight to the other forums. I have been fishing for fun since I was a kid. I am now 24 years old and really started getting into bass fishing a few months ago. I don't have a boat, so I'll be beating up the bank for a little while lol. I'm in the, looking for ponds on Google maps and getting kicked out because it's private property, phase! Lol. I am a student at KSU, and look forward to getting great advice from the people on this forum.
  12. Who knows! What lime were you using? I'm with these turtle guys. I've hooked into a turtle that felt like I had a cement block on the other end.
  13. Recently picked up the Abu Garcia Orra Winch. I absolutely love it. Its a 5.4:1 and feels really good in my hands. Dicks is selling them for $100, but I have seen them for a bit cheaper lately. Good luck!
  14. Thanks for the advice GANGGREEN. Ive heard good things about it and so far so good. I've used it on about 10 fishing sessions and it seems to be holding up. Sensitivity is good, feels very strong, and lightweight. Only time will tell it's durability!
  15. Seems like everyone is giving really good advice.. Also, check out YouTube Dude. There are at least 100 videos on how to do this. The almighty glenn has a really good one too. Remember, practice makes perfect with these things. It may take a few trips before you feel comfortable with your reel
  16. OMG! That veritas was a steal!! Good going man. You will love them. Those rods are as tough as nails, and both cabelas and ABU have great customer service.
  17. Texas rigged Magnum trick worm in black. Walk the dog type lures at night, and all black buzz bait. Squarebills have also been deadly this summer
  18. Interesting, I would try taking them apart and getting a copy of the schematics and making sure every washer is exactly where it needs to be. Good luck man
  19. Yeah I suspect the drag washers are probably crushed. I just wanted to make sure, and by the responses, I am right that there is an issue. I'll just go swap it out
  20. Look, I know 7lbs is more than enough for bass fishing. However, if it is a brand new reel, and with the drag cranked all the way down, shouldn't it be providing more than 7lbs? Especially when they are claiming between 15-17. Thanks for the great advice..
  21. Thanks guys, I took the reel apart and it was definetely over greased. The washers were installed incorrectly. When I made sure they were facing outwards, (), it made it a little better. However, it claims to have 17lbs of drag and when it is all the way cranked down, It only produces about 6lbs of drag. I think I'm gonna pay cabelas a little visit and swap it out.
  22. Hello everyone, I recently purchased the quantum smoke 101HPT. While it casts, and retrieves very smoothly. I am unsure of the drag. The specs claim 15lbs of max drag, but when I crank it all the way down, I can still pull line. I never crank it all the way down, but I just wanted to make sure that the drag was working properly. Just wanted to get the opinion of other smoke users. If not, is there anything that can be done to help with this problem? I don't want to buy new washers, because I can just exchange it. Gabe
  23. If you can score a Veritas in your price range, pull the trigger! Cabelas pro guide bass series are selling for $39.99 + $8 shipping online. Two of my buddies have them and they are rocking rods. They have the pitching rods
  24. I am right here with this guy. $10 and I use it as main line. Love it
