Cabela's Pro Guide Bass Rods

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, I am thinking about picking up a new pitching stick and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this rod. I will post the link below. Also, I know lately there have been talks about who is making Cabela's blanks. Does anyone have an update on who is recently manufacturing them? I called a few stores to speak with the fishing department, as well as management. No one knew. Hah

Thanks guys

If you are near an Academy you could pick up an Ethos for the same price or cheaper. Those that have them really seem to like them. I have 8 of them and they've been great for me.

I have no experience with that model of Pro Guide but I worked in the fishing department at Cabela's in KC for 5 years and we got back 5 times more broken Pro Guides and Tourney Trail rods than any other. They may have changed who makes the blanks since then but just from seeing that I would never own one.

Wow! That is great information. Cabelas is covering the rod for one year, so since they have a new company manufacturing their blanks, I'm going to put this thing to work and see what happens. Luckily I do have an Academy Sports near by. Ill keep the Ethos in mind! I do need a new topwater rod

Wouldn't rods from another brand be returned to the manufacturer, not Cabelas?

Well, I imagine the return would be issued through the store. Right?

I own a 6'6'' Pro Guide Medium Fast action from Cabela's and would recommend it. Never had a problem with it. It's a good rod for the price and will get the job done.

I've broken two rods in my fishing life and, both times, due to human error, not the rods.

Someone else builds them for Cabela's, like every other store brand rod or reel, it just has the Cabela's name on it. They should take it back without any hassle if it does break, but it's still a pain to take back.

I tend to assume that most of the rods we got back were broken due to user error. It seems most (I said MOST), people that buy the lower end rods aren't serious fishermen that just throw there gear around and let it bounce around in the back of their trucks or bang on the tailgate while they're driving then wonder why their rods break.

I have a few cherrywoods I use them. A lot never broke one you can get um all day long for 16$ .

I don't know how relevant this is to your question but I have a 6' Pro Guide UL rod and I love it.  It cost me half of what my 6' UL Tourney Trail rod cost and I've had two of the TT rods snap for no obvious reason but the Pro Guide seems to be a much tougher blank and I think it's very nearly as sensitive as the TT, which I happen to love, aside from the couple that were broken and replaced.  I'm really trying to upgrade most of my rods and reels but my Pro Guide and TT ultralight rods will absolutely be kept and used because I like them both a great deal.  Like I said, I don't know how that relates to the heavier bass fishing models but thought I'd mention that I've had good luck with mine and have recommended it to other guys who also enjoy theirs in the same length and action.

Thanks for the advice GANGGREEN. Ive heard good things about it and so far so good. I've used it on about 10 fishing sessions and it seems to be holding up. Sensitivity is good, feels very strong, and lightweight. Only time will tell it's durability!
