  1. Tried the zero worms today and they performed as well as the zinkerz. At bps they are about a dollar cheaper than the zman zinkerz and they had more colors to chose from.
  2. Great advice, i never thought about it like that.
  3. Ive often wondered the same thing. A pond by my house has an infestation of frogs. Ive never caught a bass in this pond. I believe one of two things is happening. There are no bass to eat the frogs, or the bass are huge and well fed thus they wont take anything i have to offer.
  4. I just received one of these reel from a friend today. My immediate thought was swimbait reel, but I know nothing about it. What little info I could find was that is was manufactured exclusively for BPS? Have any of you used this reel, if so how well do they hold up and what techniques would this reel be suitable for?
  5. How was your trip?
  6. Nice fish! Good to see some water down in that part of the state.
  7. Im going to keep this going! Took a friend out to my usual hole Monday morning. We were hoping to catch a topwater bite but the wind kept this from happening. The water was very muddy so we thought spinner baits but they weren't happening either. T-rigged lizards and zinkerz saved the day though and we managed to pull out 6 in about 3 hours of fishing. It was good to fish with my buddy and neither of us got skunked, overall a good day. Something that Ive noticed is that these bass seem pretty aggressive and very healthy considering all the crazy weather patterns here. I was sure the bite would shut down but this has not been the case. Hopefully they'll stay this way into the summer months when the weather calms down.
  8. C and G, you're still young and have a lifetime of fishing ahead of you, learn to do both!
  9. I just picked up a veritas micro guide on friday. What kind of issues were you having?
  10. Just some anecdotal evidence about heavily fished waters in my neck of the woods. It used to bug me but now it doesnt. A lot of anglers you see out there have no idea what they are doing. They may catch a fish here and there but for the most part they are unsuccessful. The fish see a lot of crazy lures and crazy presentations and i believe they get accustomed to that aspect. What they dont see is well presented baits and this is where i think a great angler can shine. I have been noticeably better this year by keeping this in mind. Just because you see guys out there doesnt mean they're catching the fish.
  11. Heres one from today
  12. I was finally able to make it out for a couple of hours today. Between 10-12 the drizzle let up and the bite was ON! I landed 6 total, all came on a z man zinkerz t-rigged. I expected the fish to be deep because of all the storms and rain but I was wrong. All of the fish came in about 1-2 foot of water and one was on a weed line in 6 inches of water!! I agree BassnChris, all this weather has made it difficult to get out and when I do its a crapshoot as to what the fish are doing! Im glad to get the rain but im ready for some more stable weather, heres to hoping it calms down a bit in june.
  13. I was the same way! I saw pics and vids of guys catching bass all the time, not realizing that they were spending hours upon hours on the water. Its easy look like a great angler if you only show the parts when you shine. How about an 8 hour fishing show where the guy spends the day throwing everything in his tackle box, messing with mosquitos, snags, reties, sunburn, anger, frustration, but ultimate exuberance when he lands 1 fish! Now thats more like it!!
  14. Holy smokes looks like an awesome trip! Its also nice to see your wife supports your hobby!
  15. I know youre out there ok bassers, where are you? I went out this morning. It was windy and the water has cleared up quite a bit. Storms coming in this afternoon. The bite was slow and all my fish came on a texas rigged zman stick bait. Buzzbaits and topwater poppers were not working and neither were flukes.
  16. Is there a substitution for jigs when fishing soft bottoms?
  17. Since I started it ill go first. Im in the oklahoma city area and primarily fish small ponds in the area from shore. Because of the recent round of storms the bite has been slow. I am finding a lot of success with small poppers even though the water is high and muddy. Im looking forward to some more stable weather patterns but it looks like it may be awhile.
  18. Hey guys i wanted to start something new. I dont know why but it seems like oklahoma doesnt get a lot of attention here on B.R. If you are from and fish in oklahoma chime in on this thread! Where do you fish, when, and whats working right now?
  19. Just for some confidence, we have had the same thing happen here in okc the last week. I went out this weekend and the water was high and murky. The bite was slow but i still managed 3 hookups (only landed 2). Fish do bite after heavy rain.
  20. Great advice! Guys if you have a family, take care of them first! I work my butt off during the day, and then spend as much time as possible with the family which means getting all my chores done asap! If theres time left after all that, i try to fish even if its for 30 minutes. Many times its long after the wife and kids have gone to bed. Its hard work to balance all of this but it is possible. Finally dont forget what is most important, your marriage and kids! If fishing gets in the way of your family you should consider slowing down.
  21. Here in central ok we've been experiencing a lot of rain and flooding recently. What do bass do during flooding and will it shut the bite off for a while? Also do bass tend to hunker down during high flow times or do they jump ship and head down stream? Im hoping that there will still be fish left in the ponds i fish.
  22. My question is with the heads being so light anyway, will the weights make that much of a difference. Is there a "go to" weight that will get it done without worrying about changing for this or that...I just want to tie one on and experiment with the TRD colors only and not worry so much about weight...
