  1. I own nine rods and eleven reels. Use regularly three for bass and one for inshore. It can get rediculous if you are not careful. What's gotten me in the past is upgrading to nicer stuff. I would say I gotten an average of four hundred in each combo. Some more. It's too much. Today i lost most of my arsenal.... And promised myself this.... I will stick to what's neccessary and shop for value for here on out.
  2. Some are broken. Some are very badly nicked and bruised. I saved 2 avids. All the rest are toast. I looked at he omens and veritas today. Liked the ***. But I have some rewards at bps and they are not sold at bps near me. Glad to hear the carbon lite has done well for you. Gonna hopefully pick up three this week and rebuild slowly as they run them on sale. Cannot see the benifet in me spending more than sale price for them. Especially with what just happened to my premo collection. Hopefully they will serve me fine.
  3. Might even considers the extremes or bionic micros at this point. If they are any good.
  4. Has anyone used them? Are they worth the money? Any issues with them? Just lost half of my st croix arsenal due to a freak accident with my paddle board. Ten years of meticulous care and zero broken rods flushed down the drain. I don't think I will be spending 250 on a rod ever again, unless it's a gift, but want a few good performing sticks without breaking the bank. I started out using the bps brand years ago and thought they were ok..... Any experience with bps rods? Are they durable? Sensitive?
  5. St croix fast is plenty fast. Xfast seems too much for me. I've owned avids for a long time and have use the mh fast action with no problems with t rigs and jigs. A medium/ fast avid would work nicely as well with the lighter stuff you'll be throwing. They are stout rods.
  6. I like the st croix avid for that price. I've owned a few for a long time and have been pleased with them. I'm in the process of upgrading now and am having a hard time thinking about parting with them. Good warranty as well.
  7. Two chronarch e's. Or two curados. I also own a calcutta 200d and absolutely love it. It palms nicely and I actually like the round profile and feel.
  8. I'll say this. I still own bantam curados I bought 12 yrs ago and they are still great reels. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a citica or a couple.
  9. I've been using a falcon bucoo micro 7'3 heavy/fast and I love it. I use it to fish the slop and a little frog action now and then. It's lighter than my avid and nicely balance and light as well.
  10. I agree with kickstand454 and ontariofishguy. I've had a st croix avid with that action/power and lenght for twelve years and in its heyday was a worm/jig set up with a 6:?:1 reel. An old greeny curado. It has been through a lot and is now retired to my truck, which I keep in the cab to fish any fishy looking spots that I might come across in my daily travels. It now throws whatever is in my truck tackle bag and does fine. Great starter rig!!
  11. It's not too bad. It's not as comfy as a bass boat. You would have to really enjoy that type of thing. I think it is a blast myself. I have access to a boat and there are times I use it. But I have a lot of fun canoeing and kayaking . The biggest difference for most people I'm sure would be the inability to stand while you are fishing which can be inconvenient at times. You can also get right up on fish without spooking them. Which has its ups. If I were to choose though I would at least get a wide canoe. It isn't too much more money and it's more stable.
  12. thanks to all who replied. I really appreciate the input. I always like to get as many views as possible before shelling out my hard earned money. And to kickstand454 I definetley see what you mean. I would hate to loose or break a top shelf rig in small watercraft. . I use a kayak for the salt mostly and I carry one spinning rig. The yak rarely sees the glades. Too many gators for comfort!!! But I also know that fishing for hours on end can get fatiguing with cheaper equipment. I am going to check out the other rods mentioned and thank you for the suggestions. I also know that fishing cranks is tough on a stout rod. But in reality the small shallow runners I use are usually 1/4 ounce and can be handled on a spinning rig. Waters not usually too deep. It's usually more open water when I'm throwing them anyways, so with the simplicity of the canoe and rod selection, I will have to compromise a little. Thanks to everyone again !!!!!
  13. Haha. Yeah I know. I have expensive tastes. But 90 percent of the time I fish from the canoe and have been taking 5 to 6 300 to 400 dollar setups. I will only take one rod on the yak and it's usually a spinning rig to fish the backwaters here in my area. I won't venture into the glades on the yak. Too many gators. The canoe is pretty sturdy though. With room for three setups at most. Too many rods takes the fun out of it. And they have greater potential to get damaged all cooped up together.
  14. I'm open To anything. I've looked into the upper end st croix to upgrade my older avids. Though, if a setup you recommend offers the versatility I am looking for, I will absolutely give it a look. Thanks again for the replies.
  15. Sorry, meant to post that in the south east section of the forum. Thanks again for replies.
  16. I know it's tough. I've been using six rods up till now. A spinning rig, a medium fast for the traps and shallow cranks, a couple of medium heavy fast for the worms and big spinnerbaits, a seven foot medium/fast for the spinnerbaits and a 7'3 heavy rod to punch the vegatation. I've gotten to the point where the extra rods have become so cumbersome and am going to attempt simplifying as much as possible cause I'm in a canoe and sometime a kayak and it can get too crowded. It's usually shallow and the only time I loose fish is when I'm under gunned in the hydrylla. It's rare but it has happened to me before. The occasional gator as well will take a bass. I just wanted one top shelf versatile combo that I could try and use for multiple apps and cut down on two rods to keep it simple. And get back to having fun. I really apreciate the responses so far and if there is another rod brand or power I'm open to suggestion. Thanks again.
  17. Fish a lot here in south Florida and and am looking for a versatile rod to handle as many applications as possible. I am looking at buying my first top shelf setup to carry along with a spinning rig and flipping stick to fish out of a canoe. I am looking at either the 6'8 med/ heavy fast legend tournament or 7'1 in a med/ heavy fast legend tournament to fill the gap. Too many rods get cumbersome in the canoe. Is there any advantage or disadvantage to the shorter rod as a kinda all purpose setup to fish traps, t rigs, spinnerbaits and senkos and shallow cranks. Or should I go with the seven footer as an all purpose setup? What singly guys think? I fish a lot of grass and weed lines and wanted an informed opinion before I shelled out the cash for a new combo.
  18. PGA national( main entrance off of northlake) has some pretty decent bank fishing opportunities. 10 minutes away. You are also close to Jonathan Dickinson park which is good and they rent out canoes.
  19. Lake Catherine is 5 minutes away. Royal Palm beach has some decent spots. Are you bank fishing or do you you have access to a small boat? If you have access to a boat I would suggest the royal palm chain or lake Wellington. Some excellent bass fishing . There are some excellent ponds scattered throughout Palm beach gardens and Jupiter that hold good sized bass. All of this is within a half hour reach.
  20. Hey guys. I'm new to this forum and first off want to say hello. I fish from a canoe a lot here in south fl and wanted to simplify my gear as too many rods I the canoe get cumbersome. I want to aim for three rods. I have a decent spinning rig to take care of the light stuff. I use a flipping stick to fish the slop. But I want to purchase a new top shelf setup to fill he gap. I need a versatile setup that can effectively fish senkos, rip rattle traps through the grass, t rig, light Carolina rig, fish spinnerbaits, and shallow running cranks. All around pretty thick cover. I am torn between a 6'8 med/heavy fast st croix legend or a 7'1 med/heavy fast . Which would give me the best bang for my buck? I don't do much deep cranking here where I fish. Which should I buy?
