  1. Nice reel! Id to get my hands on a 101 or 51 in an hg version.
  2. I tend to find that the local dicks here in my area marks down considerably the reels with the missing/stolen cast control knobs. I also recently picked up a curado with a missing tension knob marked down to 99. There was a penn ssv 4500 marked down to 45. As well as a quantum smoke down to 70. I don't make attempt to shop that way, but if it's marked down, I don't mind ordering or stopping by a reel repair place to pick up the 2 dollar part. The penn and curado I had the knob for on the way home.
  3. Came across a stack of never used reels to go on eBay at a local tackle store. I took a shot and offered 1/2 price cash. Took home 2 curados for 80 bucks each.
  4. All of those rods mentioned above will be good. My personal vote goes to the bps carbonlite. If you Have to be at 100. The bps extreme. They will do what you need them to effectively and be near your price point.
  5. I prefer traditional cork grips. I prefer the looks of round reels as well. But I'll fish with the best performance I have available.
  6. I own many avids and if you can afford them, get them. They are good rods. I have been favoring the bps carbonlite and johnny morris signature rods lately. They are lighter and every bit as sensitive as the avids. Both retail well under 200.
  7. I like the seven footers for casting instance, hook setting leverage and I find a little more control when fighting bigger bass on the lighter line with spinning tackle. Just my preference.
  8. Lol. I like this thread. As for me, it makes no difference what others enjoy fishing with. Not gonna knock anyone's preferences. But I will say I can apreciate the design simplicity of some of the older style reels like the old abus and penn z series reels. I have some really old stuff that is still serviceable today. While I own some of them and will always have them, I can't say that I prefer using them over the newer more tech advanced reels out there. It's so much easier tossing a 3/16 ounce lure on a new lews or low pro shimano with a graphite/carbon rod that weighs 3 to 4 ounces.
  9. Agreed. I like to use a faster reel with topwater and lipless cranks and a slower one for crankbaits and spinnerbaits. But if I were to use one reel for all techniques, the ipt would lay in this range.
  10. They are both great. For me it's just personal preference. I like the way the e feels in my hand. You really can't miss with either of the two.
  11. I agree. I own an assortment of curados from almost every series and like the e series a lot. If I can find them at a good price, I'll pick up a few more.
  12. I noticed that on one of my reels as well and tiny bit of oil solved it.
  13. Rinse it off when you get home with fresh water, try not to dunk it and keep the sand out of it. You should be good to go. I use my curados, calcuttas and c3s with no issue in the salt. Simply rinse after you use it and deep clean once a year. The 100 and 200 sized reels are a lot of fun to catch snook and blue runners with.
  14. My personal favs are the omens, bps extremes, and carbonlites (sale). I use them all and am just as happy with them as some of my more expensive setups.
  15. One brake on the curado I should be all you need. I don't feel much of a distance in casting between the curado I and chronarch e that I own.
  16. Lol. I could sell almost all of the curados I own for more than I purchased them for. That's what is awsome about them.
  17. You could also try finding a new chronarch e on clearance. I was happy to pay 150 for a 201 e6. It might be out of the 100 dollar range but it's new.
  18. I'm using 20 pound test mono on a 200 sized calcutta d and I'm very happy with the setup. The conquest is a nice reel.
  19. If it has to be at that price point I would go for the shimano clarus. I like this rod for its price. They did away with the lifetime warranty but is still an ok rod. I would buy a bps extreme while it's on sale for 79. I think it is great value when it's on sale.
  20. I use a 7 ft med heavy and sometimes a 7 ft heavy action rod and a high speed retrieve reel, something in the realm of 28 inches per turn. 45 lb braid is about right for where I fish maybe 60 in real thick cover. Hope that helps. As for brands, to each their own. My current setups are bps carbonlites and curados. They work well for me.
  21. The only one I own is a bb1 pro and I think it is great. Not sure how it compares to the others.
  22. Agreed. You'll be happy with either of the two. Just do it.
