rod length suggestions
Those rod lengths are fine. No reason to overthink it.

Reel problems (Curado 200e7 or Citica)
I would Have the reel deep cleaned by a well respected shop and then revisit any noise if there are any still there. I would also replace any parts that show wear while the reel is broken down, again if there are any that need it. 195 was too much money for that reel. I'll bet you can find a chronarch e unused somewhere online for less than that. That's where I would have been looking for that price. The curado I is a good reel. A great one. Not sure how you came to that conclusion. Either way, service your reel and I'll bet you'll do be good to go.

BPS Baitcaster Combos
I tend to stay away from the pre assembled cheap combos and pick both the rod and the reel out separately. They have a vastitude of combos in their catalog that are decent like Raul said. Buying the combo deals with their higher end stuff will save you money. also, they have combos with their house rods and other brand reels that are discounted.

Calcutta 200 upgrades
Thank you. I'll research and see if an aftermarket spool is available for this reel. It is rather narrow compared to the b series. I might send one your way and see how it turns out.

New to bass fishing
I wanted one rod and a small handful of lures to keep in my truck at all times to catch bass at any random spots in my travels, drive to and from work etc. I just wanted one rod and enough lures to stash on my pocket while I hit the bank. I chose a rod that was a fast action rated for 1/4 to 3/4 ounce lures it doesn't matter wether you choose spinning or baitcast. This lure rating and fast action is good place to start.

Calcutta 200 upgrades
I own a couple of Calcutta 200 d series reels. I love them. I know they are not designed to be finesse reels but I'd like to improve its casting range with 1/4 ounce lures. It does great at 3/8 ounce and up. What upgrades can I make to this reel that would help increase the casting range with 1/4 ounce lures and under. I was thinking about replacing the spool bushing with quality bearing and maybe a super tune. Is there anything else I can do to free up the spool a bit? Aftermarket spool, bearings etc? Thanks for any input.

BPS Pro Qualifier
I agree the bps pq is a decent reel for the money, and it is a tad on the heavy side. But they have the carbonlite still in the "value" spectrum for those who might prefer a lighter bps brand reel. Not a big fan of that one, but it's there.

Less is more
Good find! It pays to learn the details when servicing your reels. They have such tight tolerances that you can easily hinder their performance. I'd buy them all day long like that.

Can we talk about finesse Casting rigs?
It is all about what you are accustomed to. Bait casting gear is a lot of fun for me. But you have to use what works for you and most importantly, CATCH FISH. For me, it is natural to thumb the spool and pitch baits into pockets nice and gently. You can do the same with spinning gear, but Baitcasting gear is more fluid to me.

Can we talk about finesse Casting rigs?
I have no issues casting them on a medium fast casting rod as far my spinning setup would cast them. in all honesty though, I'm usually trying to cast them accurately and quietly rather than bomb them as far as I can.

Can we talk about finesse Casting rigs?
The rod is important, but for what you are asking for, I really think the lews tourny pro has an exceptional knack for tossing the light stuff. Otherwise I've used 50 sized curados and was happy with them.

bps Titanium rods
I've been looking at these as well. They are super light. The reel looks decent also. I'm currently torn between buying a titanium 8 combo or purchasing a lews tourny pro/new rod for a new finess setup. hoping to see a few more reviews come up before I decide.

Bass Pro Shops Reels
They are a good value considering the cost. I've owned a couple over the years. I'd still have other preferences personally. But that shouldn't discount their value for their price tag.

Any Other Ambidextrous Bait Casters out there?
I use both right handed and left handed bait casters. I prefer lefties mostly. It gives my arms a break after hours of fishing. I have both styles in my collection that get regular use.

Too many choices - rod/reel combo
There are so many choices out there. I would probably pick up two combos for 500. But if I were going to splurge like that on one combo to fish the ponds there it would most definitely a chronarch ci4 on a at croix legend tournament bass or an avid in the 71 M/f plastics rod. It's has enough backbone and enough whip for whatever you would probably be throwing. I just got back from Texas and caught some toads there in some large ponds. One over 10 pounds. Tight lines

Cleaning Saltwater Reel After Use
I bought it because it is very water resistant. I've even lost one in my kayak..swam for it... Fished with it for the rest of the day annd pull it apart later to find no water inside. I've never owned a Stella so I can't comment on it. Too much for me.

Best Use for a 7'6" Heavy Rod?
I use this exact rod to flip into heavy cover and occasionally to run a frog through very thick mats. The idea being to turn their head and get them out before they run down and tangle you up. I have also used this rod when bank fishing very inaccessible lakes/ponds when I need to pull them up and through sawgrass or over some nasty matted vegetation when my other rods wouldn't get them.

Help me understand this philosophy
Ones philosophy on how he/she allocates cost on their rods and reels is completely their own. It's subjective and has little effect on their ability to locate bass and catch them consistently. Provided there is a certain level of quality which makes an angler more in tune and less fatigued. The price for this level of quality isnt an arm and a leg nowadays. todays reels are all good past 150 or so ( I own some twice this much) Rods for me 120. Again I've bought plenty. But at those prices I think most people would be set.

Cleaning Saltwater Reel After Use
It is as water resistant as any reel you can buy at that price. Rinse it off ever trip. Do a periodic lube as recommended by penn and you will be good to go.

Best Reel Warranty
I think the penn ssv is great, and I love using it. Its only downside being its weight. If you are using it for lure fishing it will be slightly fatiguing. If you are doing a lot of live bait fishing it is a very well built reel. The upside to the diawa ss is that they've built it for a loooonggg time, parts will probably be available for a long time as well. Just an extra thought for you to consider.
-
Best Reel Warranty
For that price I second the diawa ss series. The trick to making your reels last in salt water is to keep them clean!!! They must be taken care of on regular basis. I own a penn ssv which has been great to me. I use it for snook and jacks here in s florida. I would recommend it. Finn nor and shimano make some good ones as well.

Noob looking for Casting Reel advice $225 Max
I agree with this. 6:4 would be a fine gear ratio for your needs. There is no need to upgrade for that application alone. There are also so many good choices in that price range that it really is going to boil down to personal preference.

BPS Titanium 8 Combo
I started out with bps rods, moved up to higher end at croix rods, and now I've been buying more and more bps rods. My collection is split. I have had no issues. As a matter of fact, I think for the prices they can be had at, they are a good buy. My ONLY gripe with bps rods is their hook keeper, even on their highest end rods, they suck. I am also interested in these titanium rods btw. I bought one of the their top shelf jm signature models last year and I think it is a joy to fish with. Too bad the reel has no lefty model.
