  1. I own one and it the lightest and most balanced rod I own. The hook keeper came off the blank on mine which I thought sucked. Otherwise I love it
  2. in light cover a medium heavy fast action 7 to 76 would work fine and reel to hold 20 to 30lb braid. In heavy cover I'd say a heavy/fast action rod 7 to 76 and a reel to hold 40+ pound braid.
  3. I noticed the price gap as well and was thinking the country of origin largely effects the price. I also think that st croix is using the mojo as a gateway rod of sorts for the technique specific crowd. So they've upgraded the blank and kept the price down. That is just a theory, but who knows. my comparison on how they both fish.... I own the mojo /premier in 7 ft mhf models and the premier is slightly stouter than the mojo. Similar power between the two but the tip action is slightly different. I think the mojo is a better bang for the buck and they both carry the same warranty. So my nod would be to the mojo
  4. Buy both, and if you don't love them. Sell them at a profit. Are they used? I sold my te a few years ago and regretted it. It was a reel that I slapped on a 7 ft mhf rod and used it for everything from bass to snook. It handled everything fine.
  5. I own both and they cast similarly to me. Also, consider the rods that they are on and what weight/type lures you are using with them. Two identical reels on different power rods with different lures may cast differently. It's also time to service the curado if you haven't done it yet, it's casting performance is being hindered if it hasn't been cleaned thoroughly and lubed at its age. Otherwise, I think performancewise, lews are a great value for the price. They are effortless casters and light in the hand. I've owned seven curados now over the last 14 years and they are all in excellent condition still. That says something in itself.
  6. It's easier with a faster action rod. When you feel it hit the grass just abruptly and swiftly jerk your rod tip upwards and the grass should be gone. I use lipless baits down here in Florida and the grass is usually quite thick. I also do not like the typical spongy action crankbait rod. The rod needs to have some backbone and a moderate fast tip.
  7. Spinnerbaits, crank baits, swimbaits are probably what the reel is best suited for. But at 23 ipt, if you so desire, can use it for anything you want. It will work for worms, jigs, senkos etc, just fine. You might just have to work a little harder if you are burning baits like lipless cranks and toad type lures. But it will work. I used one for a long time as an all purpose reel and thought it was a sweet. If you don't mind me asking, how much are they asking for it?
  8. 7'3 heavy bps carbonlite 7'4 heavy st croix mojo Too many nice rods out there for this price. These are a couple I like.
  9. It depends on what you want to use it for. What are your intended uses?
  10. When I first started using fluorocarbon, i found a similar issue. Breakage usually happened in two ways. It was either the knot, or wherever I had a kink in the line which could have been a bad backlash, snag etc. I initially gave up on it altogether. But I have since switched back to flouro for techniques such as jigs, plastics and whatever other technique where line stretch, sensitivity and visibility would be an issue. But I constantly inspect my knots and my line for weakness or fractures. When in heavy cover, I often re-tie after catching a good fish. Maybe try a new knot. Also, check the diameter of flouro to the size braid you are using.
  11. I recently acquired this rod and have used it for fishing squarebills and lipless cranks. It has some tip but still a lot of backbone. Id still like to get a glass rod to compliment it for other crankbait techniques.
  12. does anyone have any experience with the them? How do they perform/ hold up? Looking at the delay series to compliment my crankbait lineup.
  13. Yep. I'm aware of that. But the op didn't specify a brand initially. So my response was not to compare fenwicks to st croix. Also, the two fenwicks I own, are pretty stout rods. I would say they are rated pretty conservitavely. Not that I was trying to make that point.
  14. st croix labels this a spinnerbait rod. I just recently bought one to fish spinnerbaits, squarebills and lipless cranks. So far so good
  15. You have a couple of choices... Buy the e6x now, like it, then upgrade later. Or..... Go ahead and buy the imx now... In either case, I am in love with the 843 and 844mbr rods. Especially the 844.
  16. I have been catching a lot of fish with these lately. I was wondering what type of rods and line you've been throwing them on to get the best hook up ratio.
  17. Berkeley lightning rod. You can get them at Walmart, bass pro, gander mountain. Also, you can watch the Wally World clearance rods and sometimes you will find a gem. I've seen falcon bucoo and falcon Jason Christie series rods there for 20+ dollars. Just keep your eye out. Also, if you might be able to spend some more, bass pro shops usually runs some good sales on their extreme and carbon lite series. You might spend 59 to 79 if you went that route. Hope you find what you are looking for!
  18. I love the avids for 200. But I also love my ltbs. I am quickly becoming partial to the new mojos as well. I have 2 mojos rotating around in my line up and they do not skip a beat. I think the avid line for 200, along with the warranty is the best way to go personally.
  19. Thank you gentlemen. My old trusty bps rods have seen better days. Looking forward to upgrading! Just wanted to get some feedback on this rod before I bought it.
  20. i am considering purchasing a 7 ft mhm, in either the mojo or avid line, for squarebills and lipless crank baits and was wondering how this rod would do. Has anyone here used this power, taper? If so, would this rod be a good choice? I've been using a bass pro rod and am looking to upgrade.
  21. 10 pounds and 14 ounce bass, 61/2 ft Berkeley amp rod, bps pro qualifier reel. I was using a chart use/blue spinnerbait on 12 lb big game 11 pounds and 5 ounces bass, 7 ft mhf bass pro shops carbon lite , curado 201 g, using a horny toad on 14 pound big game
  22. This can happen to any rod. I had it happen to one of my fairly new croix legend tournaments not to long ago.I dropped mine off at a local shop and was back in business later that day for less than 10 dollars.
  23. Welcome to the forum! Spinning setups- Shimano/penn reels and st croix rods casting setups- shimano/lews reels and bps/gloomis/st croix rods
  24. Also, it might be worth noting that tackletour did a fairly detailed review of the Abu 4600 c3. If you are considering and looking for info.
  25. The size reel you would like should depend on what you plan on doing with it. I own and love the 4600 size ambassaduers, as well as Calcutta 200 d, and my favorate of all of them would be the 100 sized calcuttas b series. I like them because of the smaller profile and the ability to adjust breaks on the fly. For an all around ambassaduer I would say the 4600 sized is nice. They get pretty heavy after that. If you are throwing big swimbaits, than you might jump up in size though.
