  1. I like g loomis and I'm not sure which one you had but the 845cbr is a good all around crankbaits rod. I've used bass pro cranking sticks for a long while and I loved them. I'll be getting another. I also have been using the Abu Garcia Ike series 73 mm composite a lot lately and it fishes slightly above its weight rating because of its faster tip. . It handles everything from the 1/4 ounce squarebills all the way to the deeper diving baits just fine. It loads perfectly for long casts
  2. I'd look at the lews mb over the lfs because of the weight reduction and the dual breaking. I own the lews mb and I think it is a phenomenal reel for the money. I would buy more in a heartbeat. Diawa is not known for putting out junk either.
  3. I like something in the 66 range medium fast or xfast for my top waters and jerk baits. Also, will you be doing a lot of Heavy flipping or punching? if so a longer flipping would be quite useful. You have a nice collection so far, it seems well thought out
  4. sounds good. Simplify. Buy quality and have fun
  5. I've used my 843 for everything from small jigs, to senkos, to spinnerbaits and lipless crankbaits and it works for all of them. I will tell you this though about the e6x series. I owned one and I wasn't happy with it for the money. I feel like it is somewhat heavy of a rod as compared some of the rods that cost almost half as much. Case in point, I'd find myself reaching for one of my carbonlites, mojos or veritas before the e6x for the same techniques solely based on comfort of use. They are lighter and better balanced. I ended up selling the e6x for an imx and was much happier with it. If I bought it over again I would go straight for the imx for an extra 100 dollars or I would just buy one of the other rods I mentioned and save some cash. I'm not bashing the e6x. It's a decent rod...But for the price there so many better options available and you would save money long term by just buying the right stick now instead of upgrading it later. Sorry for the rant, just thought I'd add my 2 cents. You'll like the mag bass taper either way. The 843 is my favorite rod taper/power
  6. If I really had to I'd choose shimano. That is because the only problem I've ever ran into with them is new ones come out with better technology and the ones I'm using are still in perfect mechanical condition. Also, I feel like they retain value better than most others over the years.
  7. whatever makes you happy man. I've had up to 22 setups and I'm doing the opposite of you. I'm honing in on the 4 or 5 that I find most useful and I'm trying to make it the best gear I can. I'm simplifiying because i fish for joy and relaxation. It seems like there there is always new gear that I want and I keep adding to my Arsenal to the point that I now have way too much. There is no reason you will NEED all those setups, but if that makes you happy than by all means go for it. My only advice to anyone is find versatile gear and get quality stuff. Try to enjoy being out on the water and have fun
  8. Hmmmm. You want a frog rod, that can double as a versatile enough to fish most of your worms jigs and single hook moving baits...? Maybe do some pitching? i can reccomend a few from my personal experience but not to discount any other opinions/experiences. The 7'6 Abu veritas medium heavy fast. It fishes closer to heavy, but not quite. I can use most anything with a single hook down to 3/8 of an ounce. It has enough power to fish very heavy cover. The 7'4 medium heavy fast Abu Ike series. Same as above rod with a slightly softer tip. Loads better at a quarter ounce than the veritas. The 7'3 heavy fast action bass pro Johnny Morris carbonlite. Great for frogs, jigs, bigger moving baits. It is a great pitching rod. Great worm/jig rod. The 7'4 heavy/fast st Croix mojo. Heavier cover. Heavier moving baits. Big worms. Frogs etc. etc Most st of these rods will handle everything related to your larger Moving baits. . The top three especially can double as worm/ jig rods nicely. They all do well in heavy cover as well, where you are likely to be throwing a frog. I have other rods as well but these are my favorites in your price range. Micro guides are good in some situations. I prefer standard guides personally, unless I'm using straight braid or flourocarbon.
  9. If it makes you feel any better. I had an eyelet pop out of my legend tournament after about 7 weeks. It can happen to any rod. The more you take care of it, the less likely things will go wrong. I own a couple of veritas rods, and they've held up well. You cannot beat them for the price right now.
  10. Thanks everyone for the replies. I took apart and found that the pinion gear had black residue on it. I cleaned it, put it back together and now it is quiet again. now I need to learn to use it correctly.
  11. Lol. Thanks. The reel is so small that I was palming it with the base of my thumb over the bar. Once I put pressure on the rod with the fish, it was inevitable.. I have huge hands and I'm used to the 200 sized. I took the spool out and put it back in already. That helped it a little, but it is still there. The noise is definitely coming from the handle side btw. It definitely started after the mishap. It's quite audible. I've used it for about four trips now and never noticed anything.
  12. Dumb question. But I guess there is a first to everything. Today, I accidentally pressed the thumb bar in on my new Curado 70 as I was fighting a fish. ( not used to the size of the reel!) It took me a second to react and I made about two or three cranks of the handle with the thumb bar pressed down. So now my reel makes a buzzing noise during the cast and retrieve. Wondering what i may have broken..... I was thinking I may have fouled up the pinion gear but thought I'd post this and hope I didn't break anything. I'm not good with posting videos but it essentially makes a buzzing noise when retrieving and a slight buzz/whine when the spool is spinning free. Any thoughts?
  13. For the price. Get a Curado. No brainer. I own both the citica I and Curado I and I do not suspect any difference in durability or performance if used in fresh water. I use them both side by side every time I'm out and they are the same reel as far as bass fishing is concerned. However, I do a bit of inshore fishing down here and wouldn't even think of using my citica. It's either a Curado or calcutta for the salt.
  14. i use these baits a lot and, like you, I wanted a setup for lipless baits only. I've been through so many rods trying to get it figured out. I usually shy away from pro signature gear, but after a lot of searching I think my favorite lipless rod is the Mike iaconelli series lipless special. Composite, soft tip, but has a good backbone and faster action for ticking the grass. It does best with the 1/4 to 1/2 ounce baits. Its at least worth a look. I've been very happy with mine. Another good rod is the Cbr 845. I own one in the e6x line and it does well. As far as line goes, I'm usually in grass and braid is fine, but I like 17 pound floro or mono. I'll swap to an hg reel with braid if the grass is thick.
  15. if I could only have one spinning rod from the mojo series, it would be the 7'1 medium fast action model. It to me is the best compromise for an all purpose spinning setup. I use mine for all of the techniques you mentioned with ease and more
  16. youll be getting a good reel either way. Shimano and Diawas are solid brands. Somehow I've managed to collect 9 curados over the years and have yet to have an issue with any of them. Shimano I believe does a good job engineering these to stand up to hard fishing. The durability/performance for the price is their niche. Even the the g series, which most internet readers seem to bash a lot, is still a solid, durable reel. The design tolerances over the years have gotten tighter and tighter and they need to be maintenanced correctly for ideal performance. To me that is not a big deal and should be expected anyways from any reel one owns.
  17. I was 99% sure I was going for another Curado. Deep down I was hoping I'd get talked out of it. Lol thanks for for the replies
  18. 5 inch senko I t rig with a thin wire 4/0 ewg and fish wacky rig with a 3/0 mesquito hook w/ an o ring. With braid and floro leader I rarely miss fish and hook sets it self most of the time with a little pressure
  19. i own many of these and aside from sand getting into one of mine. I've never had a problem outside of routine maintenance. What problems do you speak of?
  20. I've been experimenting indefinitely... But so far I like the results of replacing the rear hook on the tiny traps with a vcm sure set #2 sized. I tried replacing both but I found the hooks would get tangled easy while casting or erratically working the bait.
  21. I use lipless crankbaits mostly in the spring and fall. Lakes with a lot of submerged grass are where they get the nod for me. I mostly used 1/4 and 1/2 ounce until last year when I deiscovered that big bass will eat the 1/8 ouncers. I caught some very sizable bass with the stock hooks but the rear ones completely bent out. So now I have and use an assortment of 1/8 and 1/4 ounce baits and I replace the stock hooks immediately. i throw the tiny ones with monofilament and spinning tackle and have had nice results.
  22. i have a 100 gift card to bass pro and was set on buying a new Curado 71 hg to add to my Curado collection. Upon getting there I noticed a heaping pile of pro qualifiers on sale for 50 bucks each. On this forum I've read nice things about them and got to thinking....is the pq a good enough reel to skip over the Curado? Should I spend a hundred bucks and use the gift card to buy the Curado 71? Or should I save the 100 dollars and walk out with 2 pro qualifiers? I'm hung on the choice.
  23. i love the extreme series and hope they are not discontinued. I've also been on the hunt for a few new ones and can't find them anywhere. I think as said above, that they were cannibalized wit the carbonlite series. I haven't tried it out, but the newest bionic blade is made of th rt 3 graphite. The same as the extreme series. Maybe you might find some luck with that rod.
  24. There some great reels out there but one thing I'll say about the Curado line all the way down to the b series.... ive never regretted buying one. They've all been great reels.
