  1. ah. See, I got a hedgehog studio spool pin tool when all the scratched ones were on sale. It is ridiculous how expensive the tools that perform that function are.
  2. they are a lot easier to get out of braid. Just spool it on tight enough that your fingernail can't dig down into it and make sure it stays packed on there that way. I don't get major ones anymore, but when I do backlash, I can usually just pull it out. Sometimes I have to pull out a loop or two, but it's just never so bad I'd consider cutting it. I bet a toothpick or tweezers would come in handy.
  3. Plus I think you'll find that you have much more control over the distance, placement, and presentation of your bait.
  4. Try casting two handed, that way there is no extra step. Or if you can get by without palming the reel, then don't. That would kill my wrist, personally, and contribute to a lack of sensitivity.
  5. They do have some good deals on stuff...
  6. see, I was going to say that it gives you a better grip and more control to play the fish. A lot of my hook set power comes from my left hand on the butt grip ( I reel left handed).
  7. I was thinking the same thing. I have a 6'6" MH XF rated 1/4-1 and it is a fairly decent rod. I use it for skipping jigs and rage rigs. It's stiff and feels pretty high strung. That may be the grips, though. They take some getting used to.
  8. I just saw this earlier this morning. Why is that thing so high? I just got an sv1000 spool on amazon for less than $100 with expedited shipping, but that HLC is $118? I'd like a spare spool for my tat, but not that much.
  9. yeah, that sucks. I've never had that happen, but it doesn't surprise me.
  10. Right. That's one reason I love Tatula rods so much. You get a split grip, but the butt grip is contoured and very comfortable, yet solid, so it feels very natural to grab when casting and on hook sets. Plus, with a T3 reel, it's very easy and natural to re-engage the clutch and palm the reel in one fluid motion. That's just how i roll, lol. Maximum efficiency.
  11. Right on. I just got turned onto it through a YouTube video like a month ago. Glad I could help save somebody some expensive hooks!
  12. I cast two-handed, so since my left is already grasping the butt of the rod I can shift my right into palming the reel. I guess when I pitch I just grab the rod butt with my left after I flick the bait put there and move my right up.
  13. Despite what some say, I don't believe there is an upper limit to lure weight for a reel. Your only limitation is line capacity.
  14. that said, if I catch a trout, I'm eating it. That's what they stock them for.
  15. I just err on the side of caution, I guess. I respect all life and don't want anything to die just for my recreation.
  16. Daiwa Tatula 711MHRB. It's a mod fast, so use braid for jigs and it's perfect. There's give in the tip for fish control and casting distance on cranks, just back the drag off. Or you could just carry two reels or two spools and use mono on one just for cranks/topwaters, etc.

  18. did you check your order status online?
  19. use a double fluke rig. Twice the weight, twice the bait, triple the action (at least).
  20. if you use a fluoro leader you can do it with a pop-max
  21. I got the shallow one, though.
  22. I just ordered an SV 1000 for my T3 1016 for ~$100 with expedited shipping. That reel is already incredible, but it'll be nice to do double duty with it and spool up some light line on that SV. Can't wait to see how it handles.
  23. uni-uni knot or Alberto. The only time I use a swivel is on a c rig or double fluke rig.
