  1. Thanks for the info guys. Unfortunately being up in Canada I have to pay for shipping. Even if I did have PO box across the border I don't think I want to buy 3 of them haha. Please don't tempt the bait monkey.
  2. I'm looking into buying another rod for mainly frog fishing. I currently have a Cabela's Pro Guide Series 7' heavy action in a two piece and love it; I never feel undergunned in the lily pads but it's sensitive enough and light enough to fish with all day. I was about to buy a second one when I came across the the Tourney Trail (IM8 version) with similar specs, 7' heavy action and it's a two piece. The only difference noticeable to me is the graphite (IM6 vs IM8) and the handle (full cork vs. split grip). Now being situated where I am, I don't have the opportunity to test the Tourney Trail myself as the closest Cabelas is a fair ways away. Has anyone used the Tourney Trail and can recommend it or better yet compare it to the Pro Guide? I calculated the price difference after juggling back and forth between the Canadian and American online stores and it comes out to be $20 more for the Tourney Trail. What I am looking for is whether or not it is as light or lighter weight-wise as the Pro Guide without sacrificing pulling power, as I would be using it in fairly heavy lily pads for 4-5 hours at a shot. The only other thing I'm hesitant about is the split grip handle. I grew up fishing rods with full cork handles and, at least right now, the split grips feel awkward for me. This is not a deal breaker however as if the benefits of spending the extra $20 are justified on the Tourney Trail, I will just try to get used to it. Thanks in advance!
  3. Booyahs are fantastic, and if you couldn't tell by my username I am a HUGE fan of their products. They are incredibly soft and while some people have had issues with durability, mine have held up just fine. They walk just fine too. Also, don't underestimate the junior size. I caught my two biggest bass on a Pad Crasher Jr.
  4. Free swimbait!
  5. Booyah Pad Crasher. I live for that top water strike.
  6. I completely agree with this. While it sucks to get skunked, it just makes the next few fish you'll catch all the more rewarding. Maybe try a new location or new technique? Whatever the case, keep after them!
  7. Looks just like a rainbow to me. All the rainbows we have look just like that, especially the stockers.
  8. Welcome to the forums! The people here are incredibly knowledgeable and if you are having difficulty figuring it out on your own, this forum always seems to be ready to help. Before this forum I could only catch <1lbers and had no idea how to hook fish on a frog. That was a year ago. I got some fantastic info from here and now I'm absolutely hooked on frog fishing, and with the help I got I managed my PB and my runner up PB. Get ready for the exciting adventure that is bass fishing.
  9. Thanks again everyone for the advice. Still slowly learning about all these subsurface techniques so I can pry myself away from frog fishing 24/7 I'll definitely be updating the reports section if I get my first jig fish.
  10. Thanks for that toothpick tip! Will try that next time. This particular trailer is torn to bits because I was trying to ram it up the hook shank and, as you can see, that didn't work so well haha.
  11. Thanks guys for all the help, it's really appreciated. Can't wait to catch my first jig fish. Yeah, I've fishing it through some dense lily pads and the trailer always came back contorted in a strange way or sliding off the hook.
  12. That is quite possibly the solution to my problem... Edit: Still haven't got it.
  13. It looks like this. For the life of me I can't figure it out. That's a cheap plastic chunk on there that I just wanted to try and it kept sliding around.
  14. I have something similar to this: http://www.***.com/Big_Bite_Baits_Chunk_10pk/descpage-BBBCHNK.html But there doesn't seem like there's enough room on the hook? I'm guessing I'm rigging it incorrectly.
  15. Hey guys, this is probably a pretty stupid question with a simple answer but I bought a SK Bitsy Flip Jig in 1/2oz and for the life of me I can't figure out how to rig a trailer on it. Most of the shank of the hook has a "body" on it so there isn't much room to put a soft plastic on? Has anyone else had any experience with these jigs? Thanks! Hoping to catch my first jig fish sometime soon.
  16. I really want to throw spinnerbaits but I'm limited to the bank, and most of the spots I frequent are choked with lily pads. If I ever get out on a boat I'll be throwing them for sure though.
  17. What makes a Bass more photogenic than the rest? Serious question, before I start posting photos of "ugly ducklings"
  18. I was having a pretty uneventful few hours of fishing after work yesterday and I decided to make one last cast, thinking I would go home skunked. I literally said to myself, "Ok, one more cast and that's it", and then this fish came out of nowhere. Totally not a flattering picture of me, but there's a fish in the photo!
  19. One of my fly fishing friends loves using top-water spiders for the little bass and sunfish. It's crazy action when it's on and can be a lot of fun on very light tackle. His biggest was a 15 incher on a small fry pattern.
  20. No pics but Dick's had a little bit of a sale on Booyah Pad Crashers so...I picked up 12. In my defense, I can't get the black ones here where I live so when I got the chance I snapped them up. From Cabelas I bought a couple of Z-Mann Flashback mini-chatterbaits which I plan to use with my ultralights. Also picked up some Xcalibur Real Craw Squarebills for $1.88 each.
  21. Kind of sounds like a small fish like a sunfish nibbling at the bait.
  22. I have done the same thing many times, but the best one was when a 30lb+ dead chinook was slowly floating down river. Somehow, and I have no idea how, I hooked it inside the mouth while I was drifting. And yes, I "landed" it too.
  23. ^This. The majority of the fish I catch on frogs are between 1-3lbs and they give me a heart attack every time they blow up on it. My two biggest bass, which both so happened to come on a frog, weren't nearly as violent. Early in the season I was using a regular sized Booyah Pad Crasher and missed so many fish that I almost gave up on frogging (and I'm talking about missing like 90% of the fish). Most of the time the frog never even went under. One day I got the bright idea to switch to a smaller frog and not only did I nail the smallest frog fish I've ever caught, but I also caught my largest of the year so far. After downsizing I proceeded to hook every single fish, albeit some of them were quite small. The strange thing though is that I've since gone back to the bigger frogs due to dense lily pads and I haven't missed nearly as many as I did early in the season. Go figure right? If you have a smaller frog, give it a try. If you are missing fish because they're small, you'll find out pretty quickly.
  24. Most definitely. If you can walk a frog and they're taking topwaters, should equal some quality blow-ups. That's not a frog, that's a fish!
  25. Agreed, a fantastic frog at a great price. It also might just be me but I've found the popping version to walk even more easily than the regular one. But yes, trim the legs if walking is difficult!
