I would really enjoy that.

How long before stopping?
It do. But it beats sitting in front of a TV every single time...

How long before stopping?
I fish until I am done...but I don't need to catch fish to have fun fishing.

Have you ever found an under water spring ?
Funny thing about springs around here...they feel cold in August, but really warm in January. Ground water around here is 54° - 55°. Springs all over the place.

Interview: Lefty Kreh on a Lifetime of Smallmouth Fishing
I figured some folks here would get excited about it. I've had the book pre-ordered since the day it was announced. Knowing the guys at Tight Lines in Green Bay, I expect it to be top notch. I learned fly fishing, not because I wanted to be a devotee, or because it it somehow the Holy Grail of fishing...but because it gives me another arrow in my quiver. There are times when fly fishing works better than gear (and vice versa), and there are techniques in fly fishing that I've applied to gear fishing that have made me a better...and more successful...gear angler. The mystique that surrounds fly fishing is nonsense...it's no harder than some of the things we do with gear (You'll never skip a fly under a dock with a fly rod...but you might be able curve a cast under the dock...) and there's a good chance anyone who takes it up will learn some great stuff...and have some presentations we flat out can't do with gear. If I can learn to fly fish, anyone can. ...one of the things that the interview alludes to, but doesn't come right out and say: Lefty Kreh is not a fly-fishing purist. He throws gear. So does Bob Clouser and most of the other folks who are thought of as "Fly Fisherman".

I love the comment on spun deer hair poppers. Look great, work like crap.

- A reel story...
Fun story, thanks. Abu Garcia is still in the game, makes great reels- Ninja Weed Cutter
Thanks. I've read that two work best, on against the skeg, one 180° opposite.- Trolling motor upgrade
I'm starting to think there was other damage to the shafts that was magnified by the pros running into stuff. Pros are not known for taking the best care of their equipment...Nor should they be, their job is to win.- So I had to send back both new St.Croix rods... Buy up to the Avids?
I bought an Avid X as a replacement for an Avid that wasn't cutting it for a BFS rig. Don't sweat the guide sizes, just learn to tie an FG knot and you'll be fine with mono, fluoro or hybrid leaders. I run 30 lb. Sufix 832 to a Lake Forks Co-poly hybrid line on mine and it's just fine. ...Not sure if the Alberto/Albright knot will work, it's 2x the diameter of the FG.- Megabass made a landing net.
Made me smile...and think of a guy I saw launching a big Lund Pro-V on a lake up north. Had to be a 20 footer, had a 250 Verado on it, gee-whiz this and whiz-bang that...and he had bottom-feeder electronics on it. Little tiny screens, whatever came from the dealer...- Megabass made a landing net.
Is this as it sinks into the depths over the side?- Trolling motor upgrade
Weird... I've inadvertently run a Terrova and an Ulterra into rocks up in Canada at full speed (about 3 1/2 MPH on my boat), boat is about 2,000 lbs. loaded up. Twice with the Terrova, once with the Ulterra. Shaft flexed, I almost went swimming...but no damage to the TM shaft. I think the shaft on the Ultrex is the same as those??? Wonder what they're doing to them? ...I wonder if they're like rod blanks; hit one with a lure in May, the rod snaps under load in September?- Ninja Weed Cutter
Ran a search and only saw three references to Ninja Weed Cutters, and they were pretty light on detail. Saw a few things on other forums, but wanted to check in here to see if there were any negative experiences before I plunk down cash. There's a couple spots on local lakes where something like this looks like it'd be great, but I ant to make sure I'm not missing a negative. I'd probably buy two, they would be mounted on a Terrova 112.- Trolling motor upgrade
That's interesting, had not head that. Does it break, or does something else happen?- Settle a bet for me
This season I've started to learn to close the bail by hand. biggest reason for me is to avoid those times when the auto-close doesn't work quite right and the line does not go on the spool right. Managing twist is another good reason. The number of problems I've had with spinning gear has dropped off a bunch.- Megabass made a landing net.
Does this thing float... Imagine how much that'd suck.- What happens if you use line that is not recommended for the reel
I used to use ultralights, mistakenly thinking it was more "sporting" and that they were more sensitive an I'd have a better chance of feeling strikes. I could not have been more wrong. Live and learn. Sounds kinky...- Trolling motor upgrade
I missed that, since this topic was about the Ultrex. Sorry about that. As a fellow Ulterra owner, I'm with you...though if the Ultrex had power trim I could live without the power deploy.- Fishing with rocks
Great advice. More great advice. You need strength and durability - get the strength from the braid and the resistance to abrasion from the rocks from the fluoro leader. I recommend real leader material over regular fluoro line as it is designed for a abrasion resistance, not castability when wrapped on a spool. One step further, where I live: I often use tieable wire leaders because I don't want to lose baits to pike and musky hits (and I like catching them). Me too! I was all excited about learning a new technique! - A reel story...
