  1. BTW MODS: I looked through every thread in the "senko" thread and feel like I have something to add to the discussion. Please feel free to move my thread out of here and into that thread if needed. This is not a discussion on best color/brand/hook/rig. I'm trying to delve more in-depth. So I immediately fell in love with stickbaits last year when I got my first bag. I've been fishing them addictively ever since. Right now I'm trying to up my game. Here are some things I've learned. -QUIET presentation is killer! Especially when you're fishing it in shallow water, always utillize your ninja skills with a senko. I've gotten to the point where I feather the reel enough for the bait to enter the water without much of a splash at all. This is crucial. It doesn't matter what size, color, or rig you have with your bait. If you're not presenting it with the utmost care, it's simply not as effective. -Experimentation with retrieve pays off. Don't get caught into one retrieve. Sometimes the fish want a jerkbait-style retrieve; a pop-pop-rest with the rod tip down. This is what I use when I'm covering water. Then, once I get a bite (but not a hookup) on the faster retrieve or I reach some cover where I want to slow down, I switch to letting the bait fall and twich twitch twitch it up, then let it fall gain, with the rod tip up. Then sometimes I do a mix of the two, letting it fall and then popping it up with my rod to the side. I let the fish tell me what they want. Sometimes the faster, higher in the water column retrieve is what they're looking for, and sometimes they want me to slow down. Either way, I've got to find out. Experimentation is key. -Don't get stuck in a rut with your wacky rig. A 'wacky rig' is typically having the hook right in the middle of your bait. Well, often I'll change it up a little and put the hook farther down the bait, not making the rig symmetrical & the hook in the middle. What it will do is one end will fall faster than the other. You're still fishing it like a wacky rig, but it gives the fish a little something different to look at. This comes into play ESPECIALLY around cover, particularly logs. If I had senkos (and rods) to waste and I was fishing logs, I would have three wacky rigs rigged up: one regular, one rigged offset to the left, and one rigged offset to the right. The offset baits are for fishing the sides of the logs. Instead of falling right on the side of the log, they'll fall down underneath the log because one side is heavier than the other. This is something to keep in mind. Helps you get those pressured fish out from under logs. Hope this helps you go forward in your senko fishing game. Comment your own out-of-the-ordinary tips and tricks for utilizing this bait.
  2. http://aaronmartens.com/meet-aaronLol my thread was put on AMart's website!
  3. Good. There's still hope for you
  4. I used them for about 3 months, quickly upgraded to spinning, and now I use baitcasting added to spinning. Spincasters are okay, but just don't have good cranking power, speedy _ smooth retrieve, or a good drag. If you get one, get the Zebco Omega. Best spincast reel on the market.
  5. Any structure that's non-useful
  6. I realized that I misworded this post. I have caught plenty of buzzbait fish before, these were my first buzzbait fish for 2015.
  7. Doctor, monkey.....this is getting confusing lol! Nice baits!
  8. I went to Bass Pro on Saturday with the intent of picking up some Ned Rig stuff.......unfortunately I couldn't find any. Would a jighead with a 3-inch senko do somewhat of a similar job?
  9. My sister is indecisive on whether or not she'll upgrade phones. If she does, I'm getting hers and I'll start taking pics.
  10. Jitterbug. But Megabass! I like it!!
  11. Spinnerbaits are known as one of the good year-round baits. I would say they would best in Spring/Fall but they are killer in summer too. You can take the skirt off or leave it on or put a trailer with a skirt, just experiment as to what works best for you.
  12. DAAANNG...that might take the cake for biggest order on here so far.
  13. I lost a 7+ pound fish on a buzzbait on Friday and have gotten over a dozen strikes on them so far this spring, but I caught two fish on a buzzbait tonight. Thrilled to death, one of my favorite ways to catch fish. Interestingly, I had to vary the retrieve to get them to bite. I played around with the retrieve, and finally figured out that I was causing too much commotion: so I made really quiet casts and buzzed it subsurface so that just a little of the blade was actually churning the water.
  14. ITBL.......I respectfully disagree. I could make a senko thread that was profitable about some things I've been trying.
  15. People have been saying that about Randal Tharp since the Sabine and he has just plain out sucked. Not his month(s), I guess. Good luck!
  16. Daaang. Senkos and jigs, all day!!
  17. This thread delves far too deeply into the intellectual and analytical intricacies of the dedicated pursuit of Micropterus Salmoides than I am willing to go.....
  18. Yup, seems to be a very versatile bait.
  19. Not a lot of time to pick your rosters after the Delta, so get ready ladies and gentleman! Bucket A: Michael Iaconelli What I'm looking for: people who can fish those deep rocky resovoirs. I know both Aaron Martens and Dean Rojas are great choices, but they have an incredible ownership rate, so I'll pass for now. I think this fishery lines up well for Ike, especially since his finish at the Delta hurt a little because he's done so well there in the past. Get ready to get Ike!! If I change my mind, I think I would go for Chris Zaldain, simply because he's really good with a dropshot and such. Bucket B: Mike Mcclelland I think Mcclelland is a good choice here, seems to do well on these types of lakes. If I change my mind, I'll go with David Walker. Bucket C: Alton Jones My mind immediately runs to Edwin Evers, but I haven't seen the kind of performance yet from him that justifies that choice. Alton is a good guy and I think this fishery sets up for him well. If I change my mind, I'll probably go with Edwin anyway. Bucket D: Jonathon VanDam As much as I want to say Brandon Palaniuk, because I really really like Brandon and I think he has the proper attitude going into this event, I'm gonna have to go with JVD. Why? Well, the two of them are both really good at deep, rocky lakes. There's always competition between them and one of them will always do really well. With 26.5% betting on Palaniuk and only 2.4% on JVD, I'll take the chance. I wish they were in separate buckets, though. If I changed my mind, it'll be for Brandon because he's one of my fishing heroes. Bucket E: Stephen Browning Browning is an AR native, and it's time for a charge in the top twelve!! Expected to do well at the Delta, he didn't have his game together. But watch out........he could be dangerous If I change my mind, it'll be for Takahiro Omori, just because. Good luck guys!
  20. Well, my dark horses saved my butt from a kicking this time. Bernie Schultz in particular, because he did quite well. Quite a few people picked Bobby Lane and that proved to be a great choice for everybody, including myself. I really regret not sticking with JLu, because I think he had even lower ownership than Crews, not a lot of people picked him. Ended up in 99.3%. Now, on to Havasu............
  21. I think that's ridiculous. Even if I retired. I would them away. Lures are meant to catch fish, not be hoarded. I guess the only time I would ever do that is if I caught a world record on it or won a Classic with it, and I doubt that will ever happen to me.
  22. I caught her during the thick of the prespawn about 4 weeks ago. She wouuld probably not be as fat/heavy if I caught her now but still a giant fish. The buzzbait is a phenomenal rain lure, because it cuts through the chop on the surface.
