  1. Been wanting to try a Rage Rig for a while. I know I'll cave in eventually and get some weighted hooks.
  2. I see a man holding a big bass
  3. Saw a ton of carp today at the pond. Spent about half an hour trying to snag them. Seems theoretically easy with treble hooks but dang, those things are smart. I hooked two but they came off as the hooks didn't get very deep. Even for the 5-6 seconds I fought them I was so amazed at their power. The smallest in the group was probably twenty pounds, I'd estimate the biggest at 50-60. Some of the biggest carp I've ever seen.
  4. This is not just a couple of fallen logs. This is an entire bottom of a pond littered with fallen logs. Even completely weedless texas rigs and jigs still get hung up occasionally, and I fish there enough that my "occasionally" is more than occasional .
  5. Actually Rat'L'Traps are more accepted in the other months than in winter. Winter is a bonus .
  6. I gotta say, that doesn't sound very nice. But bet if I had been there, that would have been hilarious!
  7. I'm thinking about putting braid on my baitcaster next time I need some more line. However, I know that braid has no stretch, and I get hung up a long because of a large amount of fallen logs in one of my ponds. How would this work out? Do you straighten the hook, pull it off, or simply have to cut your braid? Will it help to use a leader if I need to pull it off? Thanks for the help.
  8. Those look great, man!
  9. Have you caught fish there in the past?
  10. One of the bait monkey's strategies. make us feel cheap.
  11. Dang dude, can I fish with you?
  12. So here's the biggest tip I've learned. If you bank fish, no matter where, this is the number one way to catch more fish: Be stealthy! Learn to pitch and flip without making a ripple in the water. Learn to walk up and present a bait in shallow water without spooking the fish. You will catch more fish, I promise.
  13. Not to hijack my own thread but your profile picture is really sharp!
  14. Whew the bait monkey is working overtime!
  15. I thought this would be a good thread. Post up some convos you've had with people who just don't get it. This one was with my Mom. "But I thought I told you not to get any more fishing baits" "These ones are different." "They look the same to me" "They all look the same to you." "I want you to be saving money for college. You already have a bag full of baits." "I am saving for college, Mom. I put away 70% of what I get. That's way better than what most people do." "But that __ percent could come in handy." "It does come in handy, Mom. I buy fishing baits with it!" "I give up..........." And I don't even buy that many baits.....I probably spend around 50 bucks a year on baits. This one is one I get all the time. [Random passerbyer]: "Caught anything?" [Me]: "Yep, caught ___ bass today." "What'cha catch em on?" **Show them the bait** "Holy cow! That's way too big to catch a fish on. Are you pulling my leg?"
  16. Be polite, use "maam" and "sir" and let them set boundaries. That works for me.
  17. Went out today and fished for spawers. Caught 6 on a senko real early, all around 2 1/4 with the biggest being 2 3/4 of a lb. Didn't hook into any big females but me and my older fishing buddy at that pond fished for some 4-5 pounders on beds. No luck . Anyway a beautiful day and I had a great time.
  18. Bank fisherman cast as far as they can out toward the open. Boat fisherman cast as far as they can toward the bank.
  19. If I get sore from fishing; I go out again. My body will get used to it .
  20. Bucket A: Ish Monroe This was easy. This guy is killer in California. He knows how to catch em down there and his strenths are punching and frogging. I think he'll whack them. If I change my mind, it'll be for Skeet. Bucket B: Brent Ehrler Again, this is an easy choice. Cali native, fishes there a lot. If I change my mind, it'll be for Chris Lane Bucket C: Alton Jones For some reason, I really struggled on this one. Everybody seems to be picking Hite and Evers, just didn't seem like I wanted to get either of those. This was a definite dark horse and he may be gone tomorrow. If I change my mind, I'll go with the flow and pick Hite Bucket D: Bobby Lane I think he'll do well. He has some strong sibling redemption motives for catching up with Chris . If I change my mind, it'll be for Paul Elias. Just another dark horse I think will do well. Bucket E: Jared Litner No-brainer again. He's a native and loves do the Cali stuff, froggin' and all that. If I change my mind, it'll be for Brandon Palaniuk. He's bound to do well before too long. Your choices?
