Adding Fish To A New Pond
I know here in maine a lot of ponds have had bass introduced (illegally ofcourse) it's pretty bad. to the point where transporting live fish is illegal. the reason it's illegal is because the newly introduced species could decimate another. in my case the once "trout only" ponds now have smallmouth and they have put a dent in the native trout population. I love that i can fish for bass in these ponds and rivers but i understand that it wasn't meant to be this way. when a stocked body of water gets really bad the department of fisheries can go as far as draining to start over compleatly. The worst part is that doesn't always work, it happened to a pond here in maine TWICE 5 years ago. and there are STILL smallmouth.

Your Time Preference?
i've had most success fishing between the hours of 2pm and 7pm in the fall. at least when it comes to smallmouth. but i'll ushually go early morn like 6am-11am or the usual 2pm-7 or 8pm. if summer time, even later.

Fall Cold Water River
the river i fish often is extremely cold right now. if you're fishing a river for small and the water is cold you'll probably get bit using tubes and other soft plastics that you can drag across the floor. other than that lipless cranks and slow-rolled spinnerbaits.

Any Luck In New England?
caught a 4lb small 3 weeks ago, im guessing the water was between 15-20 feet deep. If you ask me the fall bite is on, just taking its time. i went out this weekend and got skunked and the water was 2x as cold as when i caught that 4 pounder. I'm thinking of using some deeper diving/sinking baits as well as drop-shotting and swimming jigs.

Rainy Days
you guys are having some great times during the rain lol, idk what it is but i'm going to keep trying. here in maine the waters are really cold too, that could be affecting the mood of the smallmouths im after as well. i've tried crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, and a whole lot of other things. from the replies i'm hearing topwater in a light rain can be good, as well as spinnerbaits and soft plastics. I'll have to give it a more thorough try the next time im caught in the rain. any other lures/techniques that do well in rain and cold water temps?
