  1. Definitely get a topo map and do some reading on seasonal patterns but take those readings with a grain of salt. You will most likely see an improvement the first time you go out.
  2. Haha i don't know about back in the day but it wasn't last year.
  3. Do you need to use a color preserver when you use metallic thread?
  4. This is a good way to look at it, but if you are throwing jigs on a medium power rod, its a good idea to stay away from anything heavier than 3/8 oz. The upper end of the lure weight rating on your rod is not so accurate when it comes to fishing jigs, especially if you are casting them.
  5. Everything that makes some noise or has a larger profile. Chatterbait, cranks, and jigs in the thick stuff. Bed fishing will be easy in stained water. There will be a lot of beds right up against the bank where there is a hard bottom. If there is any bass in there thats when you will find out for certain. Stick with soft plastics or small jigs for bed fishing.
  6. Honestly, its worth a try, but I don't see it being too much better than just sticking a lizard on a jig and cutting the skirt. I've thrown brush hogs on jigs before, and it did catch fish so im not taking that away from your idea. I could see as more of a snagproof option if you Texas rigged it compared to the jig, but so are swing jigs.
  7. I wouldn't do it. Its hard to walk a frog without braid. Hard as in close to impossible. The popper wouldn't be a good idea either unless you were to work it fast, but it would work better on fc than a frog unless its the kind that don't walk. For me, I have to have a frogging set up.
  8. 1/4-3/8 oz
  9. Depends on what kind or rod you want to throw it on and/or what depth you will be fishing in.
  10. Have you ever smelt skirts when they come out of the package? I don't think it will matter.
  11. I was going to give it a name by replacing the L in lizard with a J, but decided not to.
  12. There are two threads with the same questions. One was started by me.
  13. I thought the same thing. More information on how or where the lake is drained to would be helpful.
  14. Your best bet would be cover, the thickest you can find.
  15. Its a three day tournament though. I forgot as well.
  16. Let's have a little friendly competition. Whoever can guess the final weight of this year's Classic gets....credit. Remember, it's a three day tournament not four. 53 lbs 4 oz is my guess.
  17. Since its a small body of water I'd still focus mostly on the banks unless there is a lot of shad in there. Then I would try to figure out their "daily commute," especially in the summer.
  18. Top five for me... 1. Brandon Palaniuk - solely because I'm rooting for him. Good clear water fisherman. 2. Jason Christie - Might be tied for first with Palaniuk as far as the rooting factor goes . His past stats on this lake beat all. 3. Casey Ashley - he's local and he is the number one pick. 4. Greg Hackney - he's on a roll. 5. Aaron Martens - its more a less a tournament set up around his strengths.
  19. Some will say its not the best technique for dirty water, but I remember Aaron martens tearing it up on the Arkansas River with a drop shot in some rip rap. Muddy water smallies might be a different story.
  20. Sticky?...No?..Maybe? Can links be stickies?
  21. Tackle warehouse.com has a whole bunch of different kinds. Also someone on here probably makes them. If you put up a wtb thread in the flea market, someone might hook you up for a little cheaper.
  22. You may have forgot to attach the file. Its a two step process.
  23. Really a combination of all of those. I've been making a lot of jigs lately, and in my mind, as long as there is black and green pumpkin somewhere in the mix, I have loads of confidence in it.
