  1. how do you use a trailer hook? that has been my worst problem with spinnerbaits. is i can hook em, but they dont stay on or they get missed.
  2. awesome, thanks! one more question: is it good to use rubber trailers on spinnerbaits?
  3. so, enamel paint wont work for the blade? i just want to add a little red so that in the sun it looks like bleeding in the water.
  4. ok, i have bought a ton of spinnerbaits from a brand called "wahoo spinnerbaits." they are kind of... blah, however. so, i have a ton of paints that i could paint on the silicone/lead/spinner to make it more unique. would enamel paint or clay paint work better? also, for you spinnerbait guru's, is 3/8 oz spinnerbaits too big? cuz ive never caught one on that size before.
  5. how do you get the molds? i have tons of broken worms, and i would assume that the brand new senkos i just bought will be broken too, and i need something to do while camping.
  6. yeah. i use crankbaits alot and ive caught bass that are THE SIZE of my lure. same with hula poppers.those are hilarious catches. try getting some rapala deep running shads. they are the bomb.
  7. plastics with the kind of disc tails. some with long top fins, some without. some different colors, some with one. would those work for trout?
  8. thanks for all your help. one last question. well, 2 i guess. with a swimbait, do you use weight and if so where do they go, and how do i hook up the hook?
  9. how do i tie a palomar to the line? ive only seen it on a hook. how do i rig a swim bait then? cuz i have a full big bag of them and i have no idea how to use them. i am VERY new to soft plastics, as you can tell.
  10. ok, do i have to secure my swimbait to my line? and if so, how? i just FOUND 2 old jigs. one pretty small (black, blue, and purple) with no rattle, and one id say 1/2 ounce (brown, orange and yellow) with rattle.
  11. well, then, i have some finesse worms. ive bought some when i was first thinking about plastics. we got this huge box from someone with a lot of plastics, it had craws, lizards, frogs, fish swimbait, and worms. some of the worms had a short body with 4 very limp trailing things. im thinking of putting that on a spinnerbait. i dont know. im going bass fishing for 8 days starting august 4th, so i have a lot to try.
  12. oregon regulations say no more than 2 hooks per line. im gonna buy some jigs and try it. what color jigs/trailers do you recommend for stained and clear water?
  13. what's a brush hog and a finesse worm? sorry, i'm REALLY new to the world of plastics. i use crankbaits alot. and also, where can i get a pack of brush hogs and finesse worms?
  14. lakes in florence, OR. tahkenitch and munsel primarily. munsel is also cool.
  15. ive heard of slow reeling, moving the rod, alot of things. what do you guys prefer? im going fishing for a week august 5th and i want to try it.
  16. I dunno, dude, bass are EXTREMELY tough animals. for example, last year at one of my favorite lakes out here in Oregon, i hooked a pretty small bass with a crankbait. front hooks in mouth, back hooks IN the gill. I mean, entangled in the red stuff. took 15 minutes to unhook, and she swam away like nothing ever happened.
  17. i was fishing for kokanee and caught quite a few with marks just like that. i believe its an advanced parasite. thats what the biologist told me anyways.
  18. try the slack hookset. put your pull down then jerk up to about 1 or 2 o'clock. this should give the fish ample time to get the whole hook in its mouth, and have a successful hookset.
  19. i refuse to use fishfinders. i believe that in a tournament where time is very valuable, yes, they're a very nice tool. but i believe that if you're just having fun on the lake bass fishing, nothing will say "im one hell of an angler" like landing a 6 1/2 pound bass on PURE INSTINCT. i like to use where i think the fish will be rather than sonar. but, if i would choose one, i would choose the eagle.
  20. what's the member's challenge? im one of the MOST competitive people any of my friends have met when it comes to fishing. im interested.
  21. i learned all my basics from three things. 1) fishing shows. 2) the bassmasters classic series. 3) experimentation. this very website though has many of the GREAT things you need to get going. they can tell you what to use and where. i would recommend starting with crankbaits. they are fun, easy to use, look cool, and i have had GREAT luck with them. rapalas are grand!
  22. you would be surprised at how shallow BIG 'OL BASS can be. one story i have: I havent caught a fish all day long. I switched to my rapala dives-to series 6 ft baby bass crank, and i saw a downed tree with a V of branches comming up. i casted right up at the tip and BOOM! 6.5 pounder hit, and landed. ive caught almost all my big fish up in the shallows. wooded cover seems like a good place. usually a place where other fisherman can't get to, is a good place. be adventurous. we've had to hop logs before, lol. usually, if you're in a hole, and there are lots of baby bass around, but you havent been catching something, there's a lunker just waiting for something. problem is, what to use?
