  1. Problem with crankbaits on spinning gear is it tends to make them tumble in the air. (Wrapping treble hooks in the line) With light cranks you have little choice.
  2. Some folks fish them this way with great success. I fish them very quickly so i look for as high a gear ratio as possible. (So i'm winding less) Work a fluke too slow in gin clear water and you will watch fish come up, get too good a look.. And go back down. (To me) the Fluke is a reaction strike lure. Its coming by fast, bass recognizes, mmmm, shad,.. I'm not hungry, but gulp,.. I ate it anyway. Too slow can be a bad thing. Just my opinion.
  3. I often take bass that are downright tiny.. (They gotta go) They have the closest to crappie tasting little fillets out there. Give me the dinks, they fry just as well (better in fact) than the typical eater size bass. Sometimes i judge by fight too. If they really put up a good fight, well sometimes they have earned their freedom
  4. And the spotted bass are by far the prettiest fish of the three.
  5. It was a joke.. Time for tv shows.. And scouting new spots for next year
  6. Oh yeah,... And a smallmouth comes to the boat tail up (and by god head DOWN!!) and a largemouth the opposite.. Dead giveaway before you even see 'em..
  7. Intex Mariner 4, composite motor mount, MinnKota 30lb, and a deep cycle battery and you're on the water. (Quite stable and comfy too) You'll get the odd hole from time to time, patching is super easy. It doesn't ruin your day, just fix before next time you go out.
  8. Hello Rob, you'll soon grow tired of the bank. A 10' jonboat or even an inflatable raft like i fish is really all you need. Pelican Raiders (10ft) are slso very very nice Welcome to the place
  9. They are both smallmouth. I feel for you if you started out catching smallmouth before largemouth vs the other way around.
  10. Lunker5: No, somebody else has been having some really good fish frys, and its paying off.
  11. 50/50 Andy's red and Zataran's, no egg batter, just moist fillets straight into the 50/50 mix, yum yum, good good.
  12. I like the tassels hanging off everything.. Nothing screams "IM A MAN DAMMIT!" like little tassels and ass-less chaps.
  13. I have heard of cyclists carrying large lead weights or heavy steel industrial ball bearings to toss at driver's who are not adequately intimidated by them. "Start seeing Motorcyclists" LOL... Ah yes, the poor misunderstood motorcyclist. Why do these idiots on rural two lane roads ride two wide with the moron closest to the oncoming traffic hanging an ape foot across the yellow divider into my lane? (Answer: little man syndrome)
  14. The strip mines i fish i keep every under 13" bass i catch. (Right up to me and my buddies limit) Those small fish gotta go! (In the peanut oil )
  15. In the photo- Scrounger head long bill, cant remember weight of head though. (The one just lighter than the 1/2 oz if i recall)Fluking and Senko wacky rigging in general, 2/0 Gam or BPS octopus hooks. Thanks for posting my bass pic John, i dont know why my device wont let me do it.
  16. It always cracks me up to see some idiot on a bike with little man syndrome trying to assert his authority over 5,000 lb vehicles. I always laugh and think, enjoy your kicks while you can, because soon you will be no more.. "Start SEEING motorcyclists", the motto should be "im a motorcyclist and i apologize for the 85% of us that ride like ********" (I'm a former owner of two sportbikes, conditions on the road are what you make of them, remember your sitting on at best a 700 lb machine, the law of physics TRUMP FEELINGS every time) (We have managed to desperage cyclists AND gun owners in one handy thread) thats a shame
  17. There are two grades of Norman, i like the higher, the Pro or whatever.. They are $1 more but balanced out of the box
  18. I honestly dont really "set" the hook with the nothing rig i'm describing. Raise rod tip and reel, heck most times the bass has itself hooked before i have done anything. Try it, its killer
  19. With an exposed hook, the hook is exposed, LOL.. No plastic to have to press through.
  20. Sounds like he's not fishing an exposed hook. I am penetrating the fluke head from the bottom up roughly 1/4" from the tip of the nose. Fully exposed hook. I used to miss fish often with any other hook presentation.
  21. Strength is still there but i bet it looks pretty ragged out & delaminated
  22. I switched to floro for a while, then braid a few years. Back to mono, and i mean cheap crap you buy at WM or better BPS Excel, i don't catch any fewer fish. (Definitely don't have fish coming in with a jaw ripped 1/2 off their face anymore like i did w/ braid) Didn't like the price of floro, didn't like price or the delamination of braid.
  23. No need to over complicate things, Whatever position BY GOSH that keeps the hook pulling hard INTO that fish's face. Sums it up.
  24. The loooong cast past a point/ its just a little too far out to see DOWN at your lure, but, jerk/ jerk/ jerk approaching the point and the water JUST BOILS UP/ meanwhile your drags singing and you never set the hook, Yeah, good times
