Most Embarising Moment on the Water
I was picking up the boat at the launch and I was trying to hurry because there were like 3 other boat waiting to come in. I pulled the boat as far as I could with the tow rope and I winched it up the rest of the way, by the way I never set that pin that stops the winch from spinning backwards, the boat wasn't quite centered so I lifted really hard on the front of the boat to slide it over and when I did the handle on the winch spun backwards and smacked me right in the seeds. I d**n near fell in the water it hurt so bad. and last week I pulled the boat up with the tow rope but the boat got stuck half way up, I couldn't reach it to push it back and try again so i stood on the tongue of the trailer and kind of leapt to a cross beam but when I did the boat some how freed up and when I landed and reached out for the boat to stop myself it moved like nothing and I fell right in the lake. last one. I pushed the boat out so I could pull it up with the tow rope and when I went to pull it back in the clip popped out and the boat kept drifting, I had to swim to catch it.

yet another night fishing question
Ok, I am going to give it another try this weekend. I plan to launch at 3 AM. My thought is that since this is a heavily fished lake maybe the bass need some time to relax before the bite starts? I usually fish around 5 AM and do pretty good. I plan on heading to a spot I know which is a kind of ledge, it is about 5 feet deep with sand/weeds and docks it come out about 30 yards from shore then makes a quick drop off to about 12 feet. my hope is that they will be up on the ledge. I am thinking topwater and maybe a spinnerbait or fluke. another spot is a really defined weed line which is millfoil and lilly pads which drops down to about 10 feet. I hope to work that line with a jig or maybe slow roll a spinner bait along that edge. these spots are pretty much my go to spots during the day and for some reason I never hit the ledge spot on my last night fishing adventure. anyone have any thoughts on my plan.

What Ever Happened to "Be on the Lake at Sun Up?"
oh yeah I am on the lake by 4:30 sometimes 5:00 depends on how many cocktails I have the night before ;D. I like it because around here all the jetskies and water skiers start comming out around 9-10:00 and the smaller lakes I fish get pretty crowded. as a bonus I am able to fish for 5-6 hours and be home for lunch and I still have the rest of the day to hang out with the family and sometimes take the kid fishing ( he's only two so I don't take him when I try to fish hard) gotta love having the lake to your self for a couple hours.

yet another night fishing question
well if anyone was curious as to how my outing went here you go. I launched the boat at 8:30, when I got there a small band of dark rain clouds and high winds were over the lake and I had to wait for 15 minutes just to launch the boat because everyone was in a hurry to get off the lake. I got some weird looks because I was the only one trying to launch. after the band of clouds moved off the lake was dead calm and I caught 1 fish about 1 1/2 lbs on a fluke skipped way under a dock. I fished the fluke until it got dark then I switched to a black jitterbug and I worked that for like 30 minutes- no bites, oh well I tried a black and orange spinner bait- nothing, a black and silver buzz bait- nothing, I tried a split shot rig with a 10" tequila green worm- nothing finally about 12:00 I had one miss a skitter walk. I left the lake at 1:15 AM with one fish caught before it even got dark. things I learned never wear shorts and a t-shirt, no matter how much ultrathon you spray on the bugs will not leave you alone. ( I did wash my hands several times) bait casters require a little more attention, I kept getting backlashes since I couldn't see my lure it is really funny to listen to drunk people sitting around their fires when they don't know you are there. I had a good time even though I didn't catch any fish and I will try it again some time. thanks for your help.

how does barrametric pressure affect fishing
I typed barrametric pressure into the search deal and got nothing. Question is how does it affect fishing. high pressure does..... low pressure does..... fluctuating pressure, going from high to low several times in a day does... I have been trying to get more technical in my fishing, anything helps thanks

question on battery charger
My garage is seriously like a quarter of a mile from my actual apt. i live in a large complex. I drive to get to my garage lol. I really only use it for the boat and all my hunting/fishing stuff. i am on the second floor and carrying 3 70 lb batteries sucks! I hope to buy a house in the next year or so which is why I bought an on board so when I move i am set. thanks I will try it with the connecters taped off.

Ifinder H20
it is an awesome gps, I use the lake master chip in mine, i don't know if they make a chip for your state but you should check it out. I get all the roads in mn as well as something like 550 lakes with 3 or 1 foot depth contour and like another 200 with 5 foot contour. very easy unit to use and pretty self explanitory

question on battery charger
lets start by saying I have no power in my garage (apartments suck). I have 3 batteries in my boat so I bought a promariner prosport 3 bank charger. my question is the battery i run my lights with is at full charge but my two trolling motor batteries are dead can I just hook up the two batteries to the charger and leave the other bank empty or do I have to lug all three batteries up stairs every time I need to charge?

good day
nice, got to love those senko's. sounds like a good day to me

what would you have done differently
yeah the average on this lake is probably around 1.5 lbs and man a couple barely broke 1 lb. the carp are really getting thick on this lake too so I wonder if that has an effect? it seems that last year I caught a couple over 3 .5 lbs per trip and now just one in 4 times fishing it. I guess i am looking for a new game plan to tip the scales. I know they are there and I want to catch them.

yet another night fishing question
I have never fished later than maybe 10 pm but I want to go out this friday night. my question is do you think bass relate to cover as they do during the day? should I still fish docks and weeds or will you see more fish cruising and suspended because of the darkness to hide them. I suppose baits that produce more sound and larger profile baits would be first choice, mabye use a little extra scent on my baits? sorry if this has been covered I am sure it has but when I used the search function all I came up with was a bunch of little snippets of info.

DANG IT
beginners luck. mabye you should try a texas rigges night crawler

I'm a bass fishing newbie.. help me find a beginner lake/pond in the Twin Cities area.
do you have a boat? if so just about any lake will provide bass, when I pick a lake i look for small, usually people dont fish it and the jet skiers and water skiers will leave it alone, usually where are you located, what town?

MegaStrike
I really like it but i am out and no place around here sells it any more. has anyone noticed that they catch more muskies when they use this stuff? my home lake is stocked with muskies and after fishing it for 8 years I had never caught one, then I found mega strike and I caught 13 that year coincidence? I have since ran out and I have yet to catch one in that lake.

Went Walleye Fishing Yesterday (Pics)
like reeling in a shoe, all be it a big shoe ;D

what would you have done differently
I guess I am happy with the day I just would have liked to put more big fish in the boat. so many of them were around a pound. and the reason I left the lake is because the jet skis and water skiers were out in force.

what would you have done differently
we had a t storm last night and had partly cloudy turning clear blue sky today. the temp was 78 degrees with a 6-10 mph wind. the water temp was 69 degrees the lake is fairly shallow with the deepest spot being 33 feet and it is a decent sized lake. I launched the boat at 5:00 AM. I started by throwing topwater zara puppies and a few other walk the dog type lures and had a few strikes no hookups. I then moved to a part of the lake where I usually do pretty decent. I started there by fishing in about 6 feet of water where the weeds come up to about 2 feet shy of the surface and I was throwing a baby 1 in blue and yellow, I then switched to a storm sub-wart which got me a few smaller bass. after about an hour working this area i moved up and fished frogs in the lilly pads for another half hour or so. with zero luck, by now the time is about 7:00 and I grabbed my senko and started skipping docks and throwing the subwart in good looking spots I had marginal success there. I fished in this manner until about 10:00 when I switched to a rapala dt 3 which was running a bit deep I thought and I was casting to the top of the weeds and working off the drop off down to about 8 feet with a sand bottom so we had a weed to sand transition. and periodically I would toss out a texas rigged worm with a large split shot 2 feet up the line and try to work it off the drop off. I got off the lake at 11:00 this morning and I caught roughly 20 fish the biggest being 3lbs 13oz caught on the sub wart next to a dock. I am curious what others would have done differently. this lake has a decent bass population and most people fish walleye on this lake. the lake has a few steeper drop offs down to about 18 feet from maybe 5 I haven't found any rock piles or brush piles. there is one hump from 10 to 5 feet and it is all sand there is another hump from 25 feet up to 12 feet I have not fished that yet. the rest of the lake is pretty much flat and most of the shore line is docks with pads and milfoil between them. I hope that is enough information to give people an idea of the lake maybe offer some advice, sorry it is such a long post. thanks in advance Ken

What to do.....
how much do you spend on your rods? how about your boat or your line, lures. why would you not want a sonar? you can get a good unit for around $160 (Eagle fishmark 320) for example. I don't rely on mine to find fish just depth you would be suprised what it will tell you. my .02

carp and bass
I have been noticing more and more carp in my favorite lake and I have been noticing a decline in my bass catching. is this coincidence or do carp have that much impact on bass. the lake I fish is smaller 177 acres. I have been considering bringing my bow to try and thin their population a bit as well as pass the time between bites. what do you think.

a humbling experiance on lake vermillion
Man I researched this lake for 3 months, I compared it with my gps and google earth. I have the lakemaster chip in my gps with 3 foot depth contours of the lake and after all that every spot i marked as having potential was lacking fish. i barely marked anything as i drove around the lake I know the water was cold it was 58 degrees most places I did find a sweet looking spot that was 61 degrees and looked perfect for holding fish. I fished it for 3 hours and had one little small mouth about a pound I was fishing pretty slow I used senko's, baby -1's, tubes, lizards, spinnerbaits even topwater and just couldn't get a strike. I don't get it. we did manage a few small walleye but they were incredibly boring like reeling in a shoe.
