  1. not to thread jack but i can get a good deal on the older green curado with the 3.8:1 gear ratio like $60. that slow of a ratio seems pretty slow but I am trying to use more crankbaits than I have in the past so I am trying to get set up. has anyone used a reel that slow and did you like it. I do tend to crank a little fast so it might be the ticket. other wise I have two reels with the 5.1:1 gear ratio that I use for cranks.
  2. alot of time when i am not catching fish where i think they should be i will try just cruising around and watching the depth finder trying to find humps or rock piles. I am sure i look silly out there driving in circles but you would be suprised what you can find if you really try there are alot of spots that are small and not on a map, thanks to gps you will be able to find it again. you would be supprised how many fish you can pull off one little spot if there is no pressure because people are stuck on fishing visible structure.
  3. well i went out this morning and tried scum frogs in the slop around docks and skipping senkos up under the docks. a few strikes bu not much. then i noticed a bunch of bait fish surfacing in about 12 feet of water. so i went over and threw a few cranks, dt 4, baby ones and a couple other fairly shallow cranks. should i have used deeper runners? i figured whatever had those bait fish going like that probably wasn't deep. i did catch two small dinks like that. then as the sun came up i started fishing docks again with a t rig which did catch a few more. highlight of the day was a 21" large mouth on a t rig. i ended up catching about 10 1-2 pounders in about 4 1/2 hours. oh yeah water temp was 74 most every where i fished.
  4. does anyone think dropping an anchor in the middle of a spot you plan to fish will spook the fish. i mean here they are just hanging out when all of a sudden this big heavy weight comes screeming to the bottom kicking up a bunch of dirt. if i can i try to use my trolling motor.
  5. I went out this morning and I did manage to get a few. the weather was about 75 this morning at 6 and by 11 30 it was around 87. partly cloudy then clearing later. we had a good thunder storm last night. I was fishing lake minnetonka here in MN. I was fishing docks most of the time, thats where I caught the few i did catch. there are ALOT of weeds around the docks mostly milfoil and cabbage. i threw senko's most of the time and i tried a few different cranks on the edge of the weeds. i didn't have much time so i kind of stuck to one area. I am going again tomorrow so what should I try. are the weeds too thick for a t rig, mabye i should try scum frogs around the docks, or should i try deeper. thanks.
  6. gamma is an INCREDIBLE line. i am supprised i don't see more talk about it.
  7. I caught a three pound northern on a green condom. I unrolled it and put in on a treble hook. i hooked it on all three hooks, it looked like a parachute comming in ;D. I caught it on my third cast.
  8. I have always been a big fan of gold colored cranks is stained or deep water. if that doesn't work i will switch to something bright. yellow, red, fire tiger, chartrouse or plain old white/pearl.
  9. i would get a 6'6 med heavy for skipping plastics under docks and a 7' med for topwater and cranks.
  10. wow i am shocked no one using gamma. i found this line two years ago and have not looked back. very strong, abrasion resistant, low memory, great castability and not that expensive considering. if you havent tried it i highly reccomend it.
  11. I currently have a St. Croix avid 7' med-heavy moderate action rod i have been using for crankbaits. i think this feels too stiff for my shallow running cranks. I get a good discount through work on kistler rods and g loomis rods so i would like to get one they make. i have been looking at the 7' medium composite glass/graphite kistler rod and the 7' medium moderate g-loomis crankbait series rod. I will typically throw baby1- or wiggle warts and a few rapala shallow runners. If you know of another rod made by kistler or g-loomis that you like please let me know!
  12. what i mean is what are the bass doing before, during and after the spawn. what tempratures trigger the spawn how deep do they typically spawn. what are the fish behaviors before, during and after.when looking for staging areas what do you look for. basically everything concerning the spawn. thanks
  13. most of their rods are considered "fast" action however fast is a subjective term, if you go through their rods and get a feel for them they are not all that fast. like the guide series tournament for example i would consider it to be mod-fast. not bad for cranks in fact i have been using a 7' med-heavy tournament casting rod for my larger cranks and couln't be more pleased. you could always step down to a med for your average cranks. not to mention their return policy is awsome it is a 2 year, no questions asked, no need for a recipt any gander mountain in the nation return policy. and the tournament is $79.00
  14. I wouldn't say junk, i have used it and it was ok. better than trilene but thats not saying much. it is very strong and pretty cheap based on that it's not bad. however it does seem to have high memory and is really stiff. it has it's uses I know a few people that love it for river fishing. I would suggest going with suffix or gamma instead but you will never know if you dont try it.
  15. well lets just start out saying I am a social retard. for some reason i don't usually like people and i think my sense of humor leaves a few people thinking i am strange. in my situation (two jobs, wife, one year old son) everybody wants something from me, and i find being alone to be one of the most wonderful experiences. you can truly be yourself when you are alone. if you want to fish in one spot you can and not feel like you are ruining someones day by doing it. what ever you want to do you can do it, and I sure as hell talk to myself. i talk as though i am in a fishing show and there are a thousand people watching me ( I pee on commercials) ;D alot of my breakthroughs are when I am alone, it's like i try something new and then something just clicks and i realize what I have been doing wrong and life improves. anyway fishing alone rocks.
  16. if you live near a gander mountain their guide series rods are a great value. you can get an IM7 graphite rod for $40 or an IM8 for $60 and they have a two year warrenty good at any gander mountain. btw the two year warrenty is more like 5 I returned one that old and they didn't care, I even told them!
  17. I am heading up through ely on june first through the fifth any predictions. I hear the ice just went out on rainy lake like three weeks ago. I don't know what to think. and what would you throw. we typically catch large and small mouth on the lake we go to.
  18. my buddy did it to a 55# powerdrive and hasn't had any issues. it will void your warrenty though.
  19. get them at gander mountain
  20. it's the only line i use anymore, except power pro.
  21. hello, I currently have a st. croix avid 6'6 med-fast spinning which i love and am thinking of getting the avid 6'8 med extra fast. i am trying to focus on tubes this year so I would like a good rod for this. So I am wondering fast vs extra fast just how much would that help me with tubes. If you have any other suggestions i would appreciate them. I would like to stick with st croix or g-loomis as i get a really good discount on them. thanks.
  22. I am going to the boundry waters this spring and need advice for finding walleyes. thanks
  23. the worst reel i have ever felt had 10 bearing in it. i think it was some eagle claw reel or something but it felt like you were grinding coffee or something and people ate it up. they would look at the price and buy three at a time.
  24. this is the one bait i have never had luck on. i know of a few different ways to rig them but i rarely catch fish on them. what type of retrive do you use and how and what size hook do you rig with. thanks.
