  1. Glad to help. let me know how you do man. I had non stop action there... its nice to stumble upon a sweet spot. I will say fish from the bank first bc there is a nice hole rite off of the bank.
  2. i usually fish alone and would be open to fish with someone else. Sometimes BSing about fishing is better than fishing lol
  3. minnow and short fish, do you guys fish from shore or a boat?
  4. Also, make sure to check when they release the dam... I was fishing and they released the dam, the water turned so dirty and was rising about a foot an hr.
  5. i used to live in Allentown and I learned to love the Lehigh. I killed it in Walnutport/slaitington. I no longer fish it so I will give up "my Spot" 140 Railroad Street Slaitington, PA 18080 That is the exact street address I put into my GPS on my iphone. I walked down the bank and there is a really nice and long run. Wading is almost a must IMO. I actually caught some really nice trout there while smallie fishing. I had success with live shiners (obviously) and keitech swing impact on a 1/8 jig head. Please LMK how you make out there. I havent fished there in 2 yrs.
  6. Nice Grandpa1114, Candy is the best fishery I have personally fished. There is A LOT of recreation on the lake during the summer which can make fishing tough, but Im sure every big lake is like that. Why would south facing bays with access to deep water be where you start?
  7. So I have not seen too much on Candlewood in here so I figured I'd get one going. Last year was the first year I had my 16ft Alumacraft V-16 with a 25HP four-stroke Yammy on the back. PRE-SPAWN: Didnt fish (getting my boat prepped and the harsh winter didnt release the ice until late march. But I am looking forward to it this year, gonna try some nice jerkbaits I got (lucky craft pointers and flukes) SPAWN: I had great success (quantity) bed fishing in the Spring with my best being around 3lbs. I primarily used 1/4oz jig heads with 3-4" Keitech easy shiner in smallmouth magic . I fished Swing Impact Fat but had more success with a smaller profile bait POST-SPAWN: I had a tough time learning how to fish this time. The grass and weeds were still pretty small and I fished docks but didnt have much success at all. SUMMER: The weeds were now full, thick, and reaching the surface. I had a tough time the first couple times out but then I got my Lowarnce Elite 7 HDI and that gave me "eyes" to see what I was fishing which was tremendous. I had great success fishing weed lines in 3-6ft of water that were on drop offs transitioning from (3-6ft) to (17-25ft) I fished both swimbaits and some live bait here and it was tremendous. I caught my my PB smallie on 8/9/14 at my boat slip. Here it is. 21" 4LB14oz (measured and weighed!) FALL: Unfortunately the Fall got very busy and I was only able to fish once! I know i missed some great fishing but theres always this year! Looking forward to seeing what everyone says.... Tightlines
  8. I like the Marsh anchor idea, but do you jus tie line to the eye of the pole and in turn tie that line to a cleat? I am looking for a manual power pole type of thing. I like the mini power pole but cant justify $500 for it (Student loans eat that money up)
  9. oh yea i have a boat slip i dock my boat to... i want to use it on the move.
  10. I am looking for a cheap DIY shallow water anchor for my first boat (Alumacraft V16). I found a 8ft Fiberglass pole on *** for $65 (TnA shallow water anchor pole). they say you can tie rite to a cleat but i feel like that puts a lot of unnecessary load on the fiberglass pole. They sell a bracket for the transom for $100, but i feel like thats a lot plus it might be in the way of my boat cover (I leave it in the water for the entire summer). Any Ideas????
  11. Got it. Thanks for the explanation. So I guess IPT is more important than hear ratio then rite?
  12. What is IPT stand for btw?
  13. Yea line twist was my only concern. I was thinking of investing in a nice sinking braid (sunline fx2 and suffix 832) with a fluro leader for this rod. I'm thinking that this will minimize line twist
  14. Ok. Do you guys think a spinning cranking rod is a bad idea? I know tons of river smallmouth guys use Moderate action spinners for their cranking rods.
  15. So I am really getting serious about smallmouth fishing and I am looking to get some more setups. I currently have St. Croix spinning Premier split grip 7' Med Fast w/ Pflueger Supreme XT 35 series - This is my first nice setup so it was a workhorse for me this past year. I used it for swimbaits, drop shot, spinnerbait, frogs, live bait Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 MLF w/ Pflueger Trion 35 series - New this winter. Planning on using this for my drop shot rod Older Silstar casting 7' MHF w/ older Pinnacle baitcaster (Gift from my late grandpop, cant get rid of it) - I just started practicing pitching and flipping with this. It is an older setup and it does not have any braking system on the reel but i figured it works fine for flipping I have been doing a lot of reading about modern baitcasters with centrifugal breaking systems. It seems like these really help backlashes. I am seriously considering a Shimano citica or new Curado 200i. I was planning on rigging this up with a St. Croix MHF. Been keeping my eyes on craiglist for a deal on a rod. But I have been also looking for a M or MH spinning rod with a Moderate action for small-med crankbaits. I dont have all the money in the world so I am trying to build every year. Do you guys think this is a good start?
  16. go on youtube a search Kayakbassfishing channel. Jeff Little is the name of the guy who runs it, he is an guru for river smallie fishing. He runs his own homemade bait company called Confidence baits. (www.confidencebaits.net) He has a whole bunch of videos on winter, spring, summer, and fall river smallie patterns. I used to fish rivers often for smallies, however I most recently inherited a nice aluminum boat and I my GF happens to have a house on Candlewood lake in CT, which is #34 in Bassmaster top 100 lakes so its hard to beat. However I do think river smallies fight better then lake smallies. Plus its nice to wade. Good luck
