  1. Got on the lake yesterday 4/10/15 (2nd day with no ice!) on a kayak. Threw a jerkbait and lipless crank. No luck but so nice to get out on the water.
  2. Got the word that the lake is thawing fast but still has iceburgs. Hoping I can get my kayak on it after I change my lower unit oil on my motor.
  3. What's everyones goal(s) for 2015? Learn a new technique? Catch a lunker (isn't this everyones?), learn a body of water? Etc.... My goal is to use my entire arsenal of new rods and not stay fixated on one bait. I also really want to master my new shimano curado 201I and falcon bucoo set up. This is my first casting setup, so I need to practice. I also want to learn my lake and where the fish are at certain times of the year.
  4. There is some shore access in Danbury (south part of the lake) by the boat ramp.
  5. My family and I have fished the oaks at perkiomen (We call it perky) for 40+Yrs. I'm 26 and remember fishing there when I was little 7-8 and catching 25-30 smallies per man in a 6-8 hr day. My dad and uncles tell me that 20-25yrs ago it was the best kept secret. They said they rarely saw anyone while fishing there. My uncle has a smallie mounted from there that's atleast 5 maybe 6lbs. There are HUMUNGOUS carp in there. They look like submarines lol. I went there last yr and didn't catch a thing. I watched 2 guys pulling out 10-15 lb flatheads from the falls. They were using dead sunnies. The guy told me that the. Flatheads really hurt the smallie population. U guys see that too?
  6. Lake smallies vs river smallies are night and day to me. River smallies are beasts, but I feel like any river fish is going to "outperform" a lake fish. Never caught a spot but they sound fun. But my bias vote is river smallmouth
  7. do u have a boat on candlewood?
  8. im at candlewood lake ct and im hoping to get on the water in early-mid april
  9. do they use DRAG sound effects in major league fishing? or am i just setting my drag entirely too tight? lol
  10. Check to see what color the crayfish are when ur fishing and match that. Black is also a good color to match helgermites
  11. Yea I dont get how sinking over 80 brush piles and having their waypoints is legal. I understand it being his home lake and he is going to have some places just by the nature of it but it seems kind of sketchy to me. What is kinda scary is that the other pros that were trailing him were on his tail without them have 80 brush piles waypointed.
  12. LOL!!!! I just googled it. too funny! I bet they were trying to snipe a fishing spot
  13. Wow 49.99 is impressive. Nice work! I was in the market for a drop shot reel and I have been so impressed with my supreme xt 35 size that I am exclusively a Pflueger spinning reel guy now. I love the thick (but light) bail wire. I picked up a Shimano reel and the bail wire on them seemed so fragile compared to the pfluegers. By NO means am I saying Shimano is a crappy reel lol I don't want to start a war over here. Just my preference
  14. Just picked up a pflueger supreme mgx 30 size for $59.99 at Cabelas. I was going to pick up a president but I couldn't turn down the supreme. Just letting everyone know
  15. Hey guys I will be going to Punta cana in the beginning of March and am bringing my bass spinning rod down. I'm looking to fish from the surf. what lures do you guys suggest? I heard that there are permit, bonefish, and small tarpon around the beach areas
  16. Thx for the replys guys. So you would say it is a pretty descent all around rod? I am not going to be pitching and flipping into the slop with this rod, but am looking for something I can throw a spinnerbait, hardbaits with treble hooks, and some belly weighted swim baits.
  17. Has anyone used Falcon Bucco casting 7' MH Mod-Fast (BCC-5-17)... I am in the market for a casting rod for my Shimano Curado 201I. ( I already have a 6'10 MH fast action casting setup.) I have heard that Falcon rods action and power are over rated. So I just want to make sure that if I buy Falcon's "Mod-Fast" action that I am not buying what another company would denote "a dedicated MODERATE action crankbait rod" I appreciate any feedback
  18. Pfluger Spinning reels are pretty rock solid IMO. I have a Trion (their lowest model) and it has taken a beating and I also have a Supreme XT which I can say is amazing.
  19. I'll look Into sharkhide since it is not painted. Thanks!
  20. Yea I guess you are rite with the bait and wait mentality rather then casting 5-10 times. I also had a problem storing them in a bait bucket. They seem to die even if I keep them aerated and change the water several times. I've even made sure the temperature didn't get too warm. Am I doing something wrong ?
  21. I have a 98 Alumacraft Lunker LTD V-16 which I leave in the water at my dock all summer. My Uncle told me I should put some car wax on the hull to help keep it cleaner longer. Will this damage or have any adverse affects on the aluminum at all? I also have a Yamaha F25 tiller manual start (175lbs) on the transom which has the C-clamps mounts on it. I only used the C-clamps last year and did not bolt the motor to the transom. (My thought behind this is that I did not want to put any more holes in my transom than necessary) The motor did get "loose" once when I tried a hard turn at high speed, which worried me, but I now know that I can not turn very hard at high speeds. Should I just mount the motor with stainless steel bolts to avoid loosing the motor? If so which sealer should use? And could mounting "tear" up my transom?
  22. I have never caught them in my lake but I have bought them and used them for bait... They are the main forage in my lake. They are EXTREMELY brittle in my experience. They seem to die in under 5-10 casts... Maybe I am doing something wrong but I began favoring artificials due to this.
  23. Carolina rig fishing can tell you a lot about the contour of the lake if you do not have the means to get a depth finder.
  24. wow i didnt realize how many different types of RAM mounts thereare for DSLRs
  25. Not 100% sure it this topic belongs here but here I go... Has anyone mounted a DSLR to their boat to take HD videos? I know I could use a tripod but I am looking for a little more stable and permanent solution (since my Canon SL1 was fairly pricey). I am thinking that the 1/4" 20tpi connection on the bottom of my camera will provide the best option. I was looking at GoPros and other action cams but I think my SL1 will provide better video and plus I wont have to spend more money on another camera.
