  1. What type of Pond do you want? Do you want a quantity pond, where the majority of the bass are one to three pounds? If so, start thinning out the bull bluegill put in some more forage fish such as Golden Shiners or Fathead minnows. If you want a trophy pond, where there is a few bass, that are all huge, go the opposite direction. Start harvesting bass that look stunted or are 10-12 inches. Leave the few 12+ inch bass in there to grow. However, this process will probably take a few years, as bass don't reach lunker size quickly up here in the north. Good luck with the pond anyways
  2. Rooster Tails work great for any type of panfish. T-Rig sluggos are killer for crappies high in the water column
  3. Meh.. bullheads really aren't that weak lol. The problem is the majority catch them in still water, where all they do is try to burrow back in the mud and stay on the bottom. River bullies are a lot rarer, but put up a really good fight.
  4. Go catch some bluegill and give it to other people lol. Bass don't taste particularly good compared to crappie and bluegill, and I would think anybody would prefer a bucketful of slabs rather than a extremely old, and muddy tasting bass.
  5. What type of fish does snakehead taste like? We catch a few of those every year up in Jersey and typically, they all go in the dumpster.
  6. Rooster Tails catch just about anything. Have caught everything except carp on them. Second choice would be sluggos, simply because of versatility. I use the same 4 inch sluggos for crappie, bass and sunfish on my ultralight lol.
  7. Definetly a bowfin. The way to tell is by looking at the anal fin. Snakeheads have really elongated anal fins, while bowfin only have a small fin as shown in the picture.
  8. Definitely a golden shiner.... look at the bottom fin
  9. Yeah can't add myself for some reason
  10. Urban water bodies tend to be extremely fertile and nutrient rich due to the runoff and pollution that comes from the city. If I were you, I would aim for numbers instead of lunkers because of the fact that there will probably be many smaller bass in an umanged, polluted waterway.
  11. "Pound for Pound"
  12. Pound for Pound IMO, has to be LMB. They fight like old men, after the initial hookup, their one and done. I have seen bluegill half their size fight just as hard.
  13. All of the rods I have ordered other than those from TW have slight defects. From Gander, they only put foam on either ends of the rod tube. A bunch of the guides got misaligned and pressed by the tube. Furthermore, the tip guide somehow broke off and I had to return it. Amazon's shipping is a joke. Don't order a rod from there and expect it to be perfect. They use a cheap ass carboard box that has no packaging material and unless the postal company is extremely careful, the rod will undergo a lot of stress. The guides on my rod thankfully were alright, but never again lol.
  14. Agreed. Their C340X should seriously get much more credit then it does.. it fishes extremely well and can be had for bargain prices.
  15. It's not that big of a deal... the catfish will just gobble it up. I wouldn't suggest bleeding the fish in the water however, as it looks bad for the sport when fisherman kill their catch in front of squeamish onlookers.
  16. Was fishing for Crappie with nightcrawlers, in a pond with only bluegill, crappie, and bullheads. Instead, all I caught were black bullheads that were ~1 pound or so that fought really hard. Also managed to poke myself with one of the dorsal fins by accident. Lastly, right before I left, I saw a huge koi swimming around in the shallows. Anybody got any tips for bait or lures?
  17. P Line CXX is strong as hell. Sufix Siege is also extremely strong, its just that it has tons of memory and feels like a slinky.
  18. All daiwa travel rods have this issue... I have the presso and it's the same deal. Doesn't really affect performance though.
  19. Don't really watch TV except for sports and River Monsters.
  20. Anybody ever used them before? My garden is still full of them after successive beer cans being placed out. Even though I hate all those slimy creatures for eating the leaves off many of my plants, I just don't want to waste a potential fish magnet lol.
  21. Would no way suggest putting 17 lb mono on a 6 ft medium spinning rod and reel lol. You would probably only be able to get 80 or so yards on it and it would be seriously overkill considering that a 6ft medium spinning combo should be your "finesse combo". Instead, I would suggest keeping the 17 lb mono hanging around until you get a 7 or 6'6 baitcaster that can serve as your all around crankbait and spinnerbait combo.
  22. I use the daiwa presso travel rod.. from what it looks like, its just a step down in the daiwa travel rod hierarchy and it works great for me. Even though it's a ultralight, I regularly catch 1-3 pound bass on it with no problem.
  23. yeah i would love for there to be a bps in Sayreville, as it's less than 30 minutes away from me
  24. Shoot, I need to check it out. It is a bit far away, as 1 hour + drive from central jersey
