  1. What is the best method for removing faded graphics from an aluminum hull (without removing the paint)?
  2. I really hope they are good motors.... I just bought a boat with a E 60 on it...
  3. Ok, so you're on your way to fish and you pick up a 6 pack (pop, of course) and some ice for your cooler Ok, here is the tip buy or bring some salt as well. If you put the cans in and pack ice around them it will take approximately 30 minutes to cool the cans to 35 degrees (from room/outside tempiture) Fill the cooler with water and ice and it will take approximately 15 minutes to cool the cans to 35 degrees Add a cup of salt to the ice water (mix with your hand) and it will take approximately 5 minutes to cool the cans to 35 degrees It works, try it out. Cool way to cool down
  4. I am going to fish (in my new boat ) mostly in the local river there are some shallow spots and the bottom is rocky. would it be worth the investment to get one of these? http://www.scottiescanvas.com/products/boating_products/prop_guard/index.php
  5. (well, other than a canoe my cousin and I had when we were kids) It's a 17'x6' Traveler SeaNymph (made by Lund?). A Jon type with a modified V. it has 60hp Evinrude, and trailer. Has a full back deck, and a half up front deck. It has a few lockable compartments, two big enough to hold my polls. Two under the seats live wells. Two seats for while driving and two pedestal seats. Now the bad the carpet is every faded and ripped and the back deck will need to be replaced. A couple of the cabinet doors will also need to be replaced. But, I am a pretty good carpenter so this presents no problems for me at all. They (this is a dealership) are doing a full service on the motor to make sure it is perfect.. all for $1500. I have been looking for a while, and this is a great price around here anyway. Now the hard part. What color should I paint the boat (I can never just leave things alone) with what color carpet????? Hey, why is the steering wheel on the wrong side? No, really, why?
  6. I got it on a trade with the remote throttle control. He said it ran 3 years ago, the paint is very scratched up. There is some rust in the engine on the starter motor, but everything spins freely. The data plate is gone, but it is an early 70s motor. I want to sell it as is. What should I ask? What should I take? thanks for you opinions....
  7. found it. http://www.tackleunderground.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5203
  8. Ya, from Walmart. the plasic picnic cups... not the colored ones, but the semi clear plastice ones... not the hard plastic ones... I'll look for a thread on it...
  9. I REALLY think I am going to get this one... it's 17' x 6', the shape of the one above, no leaks, comes with trailer and a 60hp Evenrude that runs good.... the carpet needs to be replaced, it is worn, faded and ripped... the main and forward decks are good, the rear deck is soft (needs replaced - but I can do the work) It isn't green like the picture, but just the bare aluminum... (maybe I'll buff it out, make it shine like chrome ) Ok, here it is...$1500... he wants it gone....
  10. I want to fish the river, so I'd like on the runs shallow... but I would like to go out on the smal lakes, so I would like one that dosen't beat me to death...I want to be able to stand on a raised deck to fish... I was looking at a used one of these... does anone have this type of boat? Should I be looking at some other design? I have no expearence with boats, it's all new to me. thanks....
  11. I have never heard of this before (I'm new at all this) When I was a kid I broke the handle off of a rod and I shortened it because I couldn't afford a new on from Kmart. You guys got curious is there a thread or site with pictures? PS, the 3 rode I have right now are all over 20 years old... and so are the reals, I guess I really should update...
  12. I have been reading/hearing some conflicting stuff on hull design. For a shallow runner, with flat top deck is it better to have a slightly curved hull or a flat hull with runners? I have heard both I've heard it is always better to have a curved hull with a slight V bow. And I have heard that it is wasted on a small boat I want around a 16x4' boat. A simple flat bottom Jon with a deck but some guys around here have been telling me I wont be satisfied that I should go with the V right off. So, I come to the experts what do you guys think?
  13. If a boat has no data plate how can you determine motor size? Is there a formula with the hull size / weight? If I stand on the transom and the boat is still stable does that mean I can put a 200lbs motor on there? This might sound stupid to some, but it you have been reading my posts, you know I am brand new to boating and I know next to nothing. So I could use all the help I can get. Oh, and type slow so I can understand
  14. Ok, so the plan was indoor/outdoor carpet as I have seen many here do but I have heard, it holds the water and snags the hooks So what else? I have restored a couple of tractors and you can buy self adhesive sand paper for where you step this stuff sticks great and would be perfect, but where do you get it in big sheets? I have seen guys paint it and then spread sand, but it wares off and doesn't look very professional Any ideas?
  15. I don't buy anything I can make.... coat the bottom with glass and these will be stonger than a glass one you buy, much much cheaper and a lot of fun to build... great project with your kid if you have one... well, just my .02 flat bottom http://www.alaska.net/~fritzf/Boats/Wacky_Lassie/Wacky_Lassie.htm round bottom http://www.svensons.com/boat/?p=RowBoats/glide_easy more fun boats... http://www.svensons.com/boat/
  16. I don't use molds, but I was thinking... why don't you guys form a little group and whn you use a mold, and make enough... trade with another guy for a differant mold... and make a bunch of them and then pass that one on... everyone would save $$ and get a lot bigger variety than you would normally.... Just a thought....
  17. do you like the color? pull it off, and epoxy it (if it bothers you to much) then put down new carpet... If it were me, I'd just wouldn't worry about it, if it does rot in 5 to 8 years, replace the floor at that time... with treated plywood. A tip for you though, if you can help it at all, don't cover the boat when the carpet is wet, it'll act like a green house under there... then it will rot a lot faster, and you'll get mushrooms, mold and this green slimmy stuff growing (don't ask me how I know, jut trust me on this one) :-?
  18. you can use epoxy resin to seal the deck... you can also add a bit of sand to it, so the deck isn't slick... just a thought.
  19. that thing is freaken perfect man .... wish I had one :-/
  20. seen one last weekend, said "Cum Aboard"
  21. I use 3/4" plywood, and shape them on a beltsander, then do the detail with a dremal tool... do you konw how to plastic coat the lure? it's real easy... for those who don't know.... get a jar, fillif with a about 12oz of Laquer thiner, cut up some semi clear beer cups... disolve the peices one at a time in the thiner, it will take 9 or 10 cups to saterate the thiner... dip the lure in and right back out... let dry, dip a gain, let dry each time... it takes about 5 coats... wathch for bubbles... when you are done, your lure is coated in plastic and is waterproof... you will have to expariment on what paints will run, and wich wont (if you paint before coating).
  22. I found this site.... I think I am going to give it a try, 15.5 feet with a 4 foot wide bottom, full deck with storage under and two pedisale seats.... Might use one of those jet motors from my other post.... be great in shallow or weedy water. It would draw about 1/2" of water... of course the motor needs 4" to start.... what do you guys think? http://www.unclejohns.com/jonboat/default.htm
