  1. I have used the 20# P-Line. It handles fine. I however use Suffix and Tuf-Line XP at the moment. I am very pleased with Tuf-Line XP.
  2. I would also be interested. Keep us PA anglers updated.
  3. Gone_Phishin, I hear ya on that one. That is my I am looking for a Revo HS. Powerful drag, big gearing and high speed to pull them beauties out of the slop.
  4. Micro, I like the information that you have posted on both forums. I was the one that started that thread. I am in the market for a reel that can pull fish from some nasty stuff. It will be used to fish frogs and jig fishing. I was more or less curious to know if Abu was accurate in their claims. RW, don't worry I am still a die hard Shimano fan. That will never change.
  5. You know, I would think that you can use that rig, but another twist, you could trade out the regular hook for a treble hook. This hook would be harder for the fish to throw. In order for it to work that way, you would also have to trade out the egg sinker for a split shot to keep the treble hook "outside the tube." Who knows, I think that I will try that rig as well.
  6. Hey all, I was curious to know if any of you all fish for Trout in the Delaware River. I am trying to plan a trip there in the next few weeks and was wondering if it will be worth it. I intend on fishing in the Easton area, Riegelsville to be more exact. (In PA) Any information on Trout fishing in the Delaware River would be great. Thanks in advance.
  7. I just had a custom rod made for me from a guy who lives in the Lehigh Valley, PA. I would like to pass his name and contact information onto you guys. I would like to state that in no way and I affiliated, nor do I collect compensation from him. He did an AMAZING job. It is bar none the best rod I have ever held. As I mentioned earlier, I do not benefit from this, I am just extremely pleased with his professionalism and his workmanship. If you are looking for a custom rod and you live in the area, you should consider him. I was pretty particular about the reel seat and cork grip section on this rod. He took the time to craft a grip that was one of a kind and just what I had in mind. He crafted me a 6'6 MH Casting rod. It was built on a Lamiglas blank. His accessories are all Fuji. With my rod and reel together, this combo weights 10 ounces!! I do not wish to catch any "heat" from this post, I just want to pass on the a good word. I will post pictures of the rod tonight when I get a chance. The name of his business is "Wayne's Custom Rods." He is located in Northampton, PA. His phone number is (610) 730-7016. You can also email his at waynesrods@rcn.com. Check him out, I am VERY pleased with what he constructed for me.
  8. When you get a custom rod build, is it necessary to tip the builder? If so, how much? Thanks in advance.
  9. I use braided line, and to prevent any line/knot malfunctions, I make sure my knots are perfect. Even though I have never had a knot malfunction with braided line, I just want to be sure. Start of by overlapping you line a little. Then put the line through the eye hole 2 times, instead of one. After that, make 2 overhand knots, instead of 1. I then pass the hook through the loop and tighten down. Basically I just double everything from a single palomar knot. Just for added assurances I tie 1 or 2 overhand knots on the tag end (As close to the palomar knot as possible) JUST IN CASE!! I told you, I am crazy with my knots.
  10. Hey, I just bought some 10# braided line for Ultra Light applications. I have been using braid for years and know it will "dig in" from time to time. Other than this, with the 10 # be durable?
  11. It will be safe to put braid on a spinning reel. I use 20# braid on my spinning outfit. Yes, you want to put a little mono backing on spinning reels as well.
  12. Hey KU, what power and action rod do you use?
  13. Can the BPS ProLite Finesse cast about the same weight? I want to construct a slightly cheaper combo. Thanks Raul.
  14. Hey, quick question, what is the ligthest weight that you have casted with this reel? I am curious to know if I can use this for finesse fishing with LIGHT weights. Thanks in advance.
  15. Thanks guys, I have the Helium LTA matched up with my Chronarch 50mg. Tackletour.com speaks very highly of the Powell rods, and they rate it slightly higher than the Helium Magnesium 9.17 - 9.28 plus editors choice. I have played around with the Helium Magnesium and think I prefer the Powell. Also, I think the Stez rod is out of my price range. Ibought the Steez reel for $250 after Gift cards and store credit and my wife would kill me if I spend that kind of money on the Steez rod. Thanks for the imput guys.
  16. Hey guys, I am in the market for a casting rod for my new Steez reel. I am looking for a split grip rod that can be used for multi purposes. After hearing a lot of positive talk about Powell Rods, I am strongly considering their Max casting rod. Would you recommend this rod for the Steez? Their Med-Heavy rod has a line limit of 17 lbs. All of my Med-heavy rods have a limit of 20 lbs. I like the feel of a Med-Heavy rod, but was wondering if I should get the heavy instead. Is their Med-Heavy equivelent to a Medium power rod? Any info. you guys have would be greatly appreciated. Here are the rod spec's. Powell 683 C Ex-Fast - Senkos, jigs, flukes, texas rigs, spinnerbait. 6'8" Med-Heavy Ex-Fast Action, 10-17 lb. Test 1/4-3/4 oz. Powell 684 C Ex-Fast - Jigs, texas rigs, big senkos, spinnerbaits and swimbaits. 6'8" Heavy Ex-Fast Action, 12-20 lb. Test 1/4-1 oz.
  17. Thanks, I will look into them.
  18. Hi all, I was wondering if there were any fishing clubs in the Lehigh Valley, PA? I am looking to join a club next year and fish tournaments as a non-boater. If you know of any clubs close to the Lehigh Valley, that would also be greatly appreciated.
  19. fishnsmith, once you get the mg50, you will send the other prodigy back. The mg, is soooo light. I find other reels extremely heavy after using the mg. I often joke that I have to start the day using my Scorpion 1000, Accurist PT, then go to the mg, otherwise the Scorpion and Accurist feel like a brick .The mg is by far the best fishing product that I have ever bought. I think that next year I will order 1 or 2 more and try to sell my other reels. Hope you enjoy your new purchase. 8-)
  20. ReelMech, correct me if I am wrong, the PT's come with the Hot Sauce and better bearings right?
  21. Tackletour.com gave the Accurist a 8.66 and best value award. I have the Accurist II and liked it but I was experimenting with the Accurist and the Accurist PT. I liked the PT better and returned the Accurist and put the $ towards a rod for the PT. If that makes any sense. The Accurist (red, blue,Gold) reels are good reels and will hold up. However, the Accurist PT, in my opinion is better. If you want a $60 or so reel, go with the Accurist or the Daiwa Procaster 6+1. If you have a little mor eto spend, look at the Shimano Citica, Shimano Cruxis, Quantum Accurist PT, Daiwa Advantage. These reels have pleased many people on this forum. I know there is a large group that LOVE the Pflueger line, I am not one of them, but you could check them out as well.
  22. The Prodigy is no where close to the quality of a Curado or Chronarch. I have both Shimano's and they are amazing reels. The Prodigy is a $60 House brand reel that, in my opinion feels cheap. If you go into Cabela's and go to the bargain cave, you will see dozens of Prodigy reels returned and sold for a cheaper price. I have never seen a Curado or Chronarch in the Bargain Cave, not even in the glass case that holds the more expensive returned products. If you are looking to spend $70, buy a Quantum Accurist. Here is the link, http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0029872119562a&navCount=4&podId=0029872&parentId=cat20331&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat20166-cat20331&catalogCode=6IS&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20331&hasJS=true Also, here is a product review on it, http://www.tackletour.com/reviewquantaccurist2.html Spend your money on good, quality gear, it will save you in the long run.
  23. I currently live in Allentown and checked out this guys site. He fishes the major rivers in the area and seems to do it for a very reasonable price. I think sometime in the future I will contact him for a trip. However, I would suggest that if you do a guide service, you fish the waters that you will be fishing on before going out with him. This will allow you to become more familiar with the river, and will also lead to a more productive day on the water. Come to think of it, I think that I may have seen this guy on ther water before.
  24. Sometimes they blow up to scare the object, in this case the frog. Also they may have been making half hearted attempts, kind of like "slapping" the bait. I would also suggest waiting longer to set the hook. I would also suggest a screw in hook. Also, maybe try a different color or method of retrieve. Sometimes the color or retrieve needs to be changed. Don't give up on this bait, it will produce. Hope these tips will help.
  25. FIRST OFF, THIS SITE IS AMAZING!! I am a History teacher, and I tend to take a "researchers" approach to information gathering. It is best to consult MANY different sources, that way it is possible to collect ALL the information. It will also lead to better decisions, as well as lead to a more rounded fisherperson. I know that from time to time I may not be interested in specific posts simply because they do not apply to the type of fishing that I do. For example, I do not have the liquid assets to purchase a $300 reel or a $300 rod. (A wife and children will do that to you ) As a result, I read most every post that can help me or that I can give help to. This site is also more related to boat-lake fishermen, and it is possible that GAMEOVER may want to research something in rivers and streams for smallies. THAT IS NOT A PUTDOWN, OR NEGATIVE COMMENT. I still visit this site first and will continue to do so. GAMEOVER asked a very valid question. One site that I visit is geared towards river/stream fishing. I also visit tackle tour when I am in the market for new equipment. I also am a member at Bill Dance Outdoors. By the way, it is amazing how so much information can exist on different site and still new information is learned. Yes, I am new here, and do not wish to offend anyone by this post. I am just trying to help out another bass resource member.
