  1. A Ribbon-Tail Worm or a Zoom Lizard could have produced results, but you never know. Some days they just won't hit anything.
  2. This! I was curious to throw my Super Spot last week. Well, it paid off...
  3. Thanks for the information. I've only used braid once before I started bass fishing. I'm about to buy a baitcaster and put braid on it. I don't need another mishap like that again.
  4. Yeah, I do. The fish was around 6 or 7 pounds. This was a "You get what you pay for" learning experience. I'll be prepared the next time.
  5. Talking about perfect timing with this thread. Lol! Today, I decided to go out and hit the water before my "vacation" time is up. The trip started off slow as usual. It was time to switch up my presentation and use the knowledge that I was told... Keep it simple. I caught two decent fish on a Culprit Ribbon-Tail Worm and Zoom Lizard. Then, I switched to a Strike King Bleeding Bait Spinnerbait I used once in the two or three years I've owned it (I'm a soft plastics type of guy). Well, after the fifth cast, a nice bass collided with my spinnerbait. Once I set the hook, she came out the water like she was on a Bill Dance episode. I got her from halfway across the pond right next to the bank. I saw her and she saw me... She darted towards the brush next to the bank to head out to the open water. Before I could react and do anything, my line broke. I lost the fish and my spinnerbait. I didn't think to move down the bank to a clear area due to the excitement and adrenaline. I immediately grabbed my gear and went home.
  6. Zoom Pumpkin & Black Red Glitter Lizards work for me. Maybe I'll experiment with more colors this years.
  7. I don't deal with snakes at all. I've encountered five snakes along the bank this year already... At the same pond. I cannot imagine one dropping in to say hello while I'm in a boat.
  8. I've seen it a few times myself while out, but never did any research on it.
  9. Congrats! Keep up the good work.
  10. A Chrome/Black Super Spot should work when you run across a school of fry. I also got hit on a Pop-R while throwing it just past the fry.
  11. As others have said, slow down. My line got tangled in some brush next to the bank and my weightless soft plastic stayed in the water. By the time I got untangled and the plastic had time to fall and sit, I had a fish on. I thought I was tangled again, but it ended up being a decent 17" bass.
  12. I'm a little late posting this, but I went out Tuesday morning to try my luck since the weather has been a little more consistent in the high 70's and low 80's. I didn't think I would be throwing a Pop-R since soft plastics been getting the job done. Well, it was a lot action on the surface and I immediately changed my presentation. I don't fish top water lures often. Here's the first bass of the day that got my adrenaline rushing... He's no record, but he got my day started. I do believe I missed my personal best that day with the Pop-R Nice hook set, felt the fish, fish came out the water and threw my Rebel back at me... Same fish threw my Super Spot back. It was time to go home.
  13. Nice setup! I carry two rods at the moment, but always have a third rod available on back of the truck. I use to carry four rods and half of the fishing tackle available in stores. Lol!
  14. My choice of words... Not appropriate for posting. Silence and a crazy look on my face follow shortly after. That is all...
  15. Congrats to you guys! I'm jealous. Lol!
  16. I lost three on a recent trip. What happened? I don't know... It's a part of fishing. Yes, it bothered me a little, but I kept going. I'll be making some changes and hopefully it'll help, but it can happen again on the very next trip with the changes.
  17. I'll make three to five casts and then move along. I've had great success by doing this at different ponds. Had a guy ask me where I was going as he stayed in the same spot with no results... I caught the first fish and he decided it was time to relocate as well.
  18. Thanks for the welcome!
  19. Weightless Berkley Gulp! 2.5" Minnow... Caught eight total on the first trip for 2015 using the minnow.
  20. This!!! There was a time where I would buy tackle every time I went into a store. After going out on numerous trips and not catching fish on everything I bought, I learned to narrow down on my selection. I rarely buy tackle unless it's hooks, weights or I'm needing a soft plastic and I'm down to three or four left in the pack. I purchased a spinning combo pre-spooled with 8 lb line recently for $12.00 due to it being on sale. Caught a few decent bass on it already this year. I cannot complain at all.
  21. Its been a hit and miss for me on the last few outings. I went out Wednesday and caught two between 1-2 lbs and three came off. Not sure if it was a short strike or what. Almost broke my rod when setting the hook on the second lost fish because whatever it was on the other end didn't budge... Talk about a broken heart. It took a few minutes to get over that one. The weather has cooled down since the rain came in last night. The water temp was already down on Wednesday. I'm waiting for 2-3 days of consistent 70 degree weather before I head out again. I should have better results the next time, but anything can happen.
  22. Congrats to you! I wouldn't know how to act after catching two like that.
  23. Congrats! That's a healthy largemouth.
  24. Spinning rod, 6 lb line, and a weightless Berkley Gulp! Minnow Still managed to spook a 7 lb or 8 lb Bass the other day...
