  1. He found his own bed while I was searching....
  2. When smallies are on beds the fishing doesnt get any better.... With one exception... the smallies are on beds and your son is in the boat with you.. I took the boy out over the weekend to finish the break-in on Wamplers and at his begging and pleading we stopped to do some fishing... We rolled up on a bed and I began to teach him what little I know about bed fishing... I pointed out the bed, made a perfect cast a few feet past the bed and began to work it toward the bed when I hear the splash of a 1/4 oz tungsten married up with a 5 inch hula grub. This came as a complete surprise because as I recall I was throwing a 3/16 oz tungsten with a brush hog. Just as I turned around to confirm my suspicions I see the boy loading up on this smallie... Life just doesnt get any better than that.. B
  3. Since the Canadian season doesnt open until June 23 I'll probably avoid Canadian spawners. I was breaking in my new motor all weekend so I didnt get a chance to fish but I'll have to agree with Maltese, after seeing the lake I would say those are definately good looking areas. I'll be going back out to fish Clair this coming weekend. B
  4. I'm ashamed to admit I do not eat on the water either. I just get so focused that I do not get hungry. I also do not hydrate as much as I should. I've been working on a checklist for what I pack before tournaments and one of the things I've added to the list is granola bars. Just FYI, Gatorade has alot of sodium... which can dehydrate you. There's no substitute for good ole fashioned bottled water!! As for supplements, I'm with everyone else... I just eat a healthy diet and dont take supplements. In about 10 years I might be taking geratol or something but other than that, no A nice hearty, healthy breakfast can get you through the day easier. You might be surprised to know that the meal you eat the night before will have more of an impact on you than anything you eat that day. B
  5. This will be my first year exploring St. Clair during the spawn. Typically where do these smallies spawn? I dont mean depth, I mean just a general area they migrate to on St. Clair. Like Anchor Bay or the channels? Middle? North? Just looking for a starting point. B
  6. I got lucky. Found an upgrade to the Maxxum 101. 1400.00 TM. It's a 2005 but still brand new in the box with a 3 year warranty from date of purchase. 900.00. Plus the guy will take my old one as a trade and drop the price even more. I might just have him fix the old one and keep it as a spare if he can do it cheap. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. B
  7. Yes there was no pin on mine either. Just the washer and nut. B
  8. Just to clarify it isnt "constant on". Just constant speed when I hit the foot pedal. Is this what you mean? B
  9. I got my TM put back together after having the shaft replaced. I dont know if I wired it back up wrong or what but it only runs at one speed. The dial does not adjust the speed and it doesnt easy on/off like it's supposed to. Yes I have the switch in the correct on position. The speed adjusted correctly out of the blue for a little bit but then went back to constant on. Any clues? B
  10. I just ordered my first Mattlures bluegill from ***.com yesterday. I'll be looking forward to putting it to the test!! B
  11. Completely agree with RW. On my trebles I try not to cross their eyes. I'll react to the bite but not with a hard set. B
  12. You'll need to find a boater who is fishing the BFL you want to fish. Register with the BFL on FLWoutdoors for that tournament and add him as your link to guarantee your entry. You can sign up without a link but you risk not being able to fish the tournament if there are more co-anglers than boaters. Go to flwoutdoors.com to get more information. Read all the rules and registration pages for BFL. B
  13. You might get some differing opinions from your own on Doug Hannon.... I've heard several opinions that agree with Doug Hannon. I'm no scientist or researcher though. B
  14. You just cant put a value on life experiences like that for our youth. The long term beneficial impact just can not be measured. 5 thumbs up guys!! Truly awesome, B
  15. Been wanting to try these. I guess I'll have to give in and buy some. B
  16. Couple weeks ago I had a bass come clean out of the water after a fluke that busted the surface nose first. There's something to be said for presenting it this way. B
  17. I was having this problem 2 weeks ago. I was fishing it with my senko rod - equating the weightless presentation with needing a lighter rod. I decided to bump up to a MH with a faster tip and it made all the difference in the world. You really need a good hard hookset to get that 4/0 and 5/0 to penetrate. I use a 5/0 most of the time for added weight. I also leave the hook exposed and flush with the fluke. If I'm in and around heavier cover I will skin hook it. B
  18. This would depend on what type of topwater? Buzzbaits I want a med power med/fast action rod in the 7 foot range with a burner reel on it. Pop-R type baits I want a shorter rod with a faster action so I can pop it easily. Wake and walk the dog baits I also want a shorter rod with a little more give which makes it easier to walk the dog. Usually this will double as my jerk bait rod. B
  19. Without question!!! With one exception... If fishing was your job B
  20. Just want to make sure you are clear... All Pro rods or All Star rods? I have a flier from All Pro for 50% off of their rods up to 4 rods. We got it complimentary at the National Guard Tourney. I never got to touch any of them though. I was all excited when I thought they said All Star. I'd have loved to pick up 4 All Star rods at 50% off. B
  21. Brian's Bees Prop Bee2. B
  22. I've used everything from the 1/8 oz to the magnums and not lost a fish on them. My last tournament the spot remover was the pattern for 90% of my fish too. B
  23. I'm using a chronarch 50 mg with a B&R Outlaw rod 6 ft pistol grip medium power fast action. This rod is great for skipping light stuff, shakey heading and I have yet to try drop shot on this rod but I'm guessing it will work just fine. B I didnt see your spending limit either. I'd have to agree with KU. Go with a spinning setup and check out BPS or Gander Mtn/Cabellas type store combo.
  24. I second that.....and when im looking through magiznes and reading articles they will name a lure like some kind of shallow running crank bait or somthing then they will say what brand it is.....i just try to skip over the brand part and jsut focus on how he was useing a shallow running crank bait and where he was using it at I disagree. My integrity is everything. Money can not buy it. We should not blindly buy things, however... you and everyone else should know that youth buy on impulse and trust their heroes. B
