  1. I very recently started throwing a baitcaster, and yes it will take some time to get used to it. The above post pretty much said it all, dont get me wrong i still love my spinning gear though. Now that I have and am decent at using a baitcaster the big difference that i noticed is how much lighter it is compared to my larger spinning gear for thowing those larger lures and how much easier it is to work and manipulate them. I still use my spinning gear for lighter finesse rigs, or if I am casting from the bank in some really thick stuff where i dont have a lot of casting room, I do a lot of creek bashing and river/stream fishing. Overall I would say I am very happy I decided to get one and practice using it not only because it does help using those larger lures and for getting longer casts, after you get good enough to turn down your brakes, but just for knowing how to use different applications for catching fish. Good luck and happy fishing! Give someone a fish and they will eat for a day, teach them to fish and they will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.
  2. You must be from Chicago prior to the cardinals it was the Yankees. It is the team that is on top for an extended period of time that ends up being despised and it will change again. Every teams fans have that air about them, it is filled with tradition, memories, the old greats, and pride.
  3. Welcome!! I very well may have some for you, I currently use spinning gear but would like to try out fly very soon! Give someone a fish and they will eat for a day, teach them to fish and they will sit in a boat all day drink beer.
  4. We have a Master Angler Program here in show me state. I have one for a 30" 9.2 LB Walleye. For bass here it is very similar to where you are at the Master Angler requirements: Large Mouth 6 LBs 22", Small Mouth 3 Lbs 18", and Spotted 3 Lbs 18" for black bass species. Same here for sizes on Bass overall, a 5 pounder is a great fish! Give someone a fish and they will eat for a day, teach them how to fish and they will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.
  5. I also have had problems with it, and quite frankly it may have been due to the spool sitting on the shelf in the store for an extended period of time. I was attempting to use it for trout fishing in 4 lb, and realized that after loosing 2 big fish and having a lot of issues with the line becoming damaged easily I realized that I can use Trileen green or blue in 4 lb and have had no issues on the trout seeing the line and havent had a line break since other than on a bad snag. A wise man once told me there are a thousand of different ways to catch a fish at any point in time, its simply a matter of knowing how to apply them.
  6. Glad to hear you are coming to my neck of the woods! I would highly reccomend using John Sappington, who you may also know as one of the FLW cup winners. He is a great guide and did a very job guiding for my mom and I on mothers day. You can check him out at www.fishingguidebranson.com. Good luck and happy fishing! Give someone a fish and they will eat for a day, teach them how to fish and they will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.
  7. Welcome! I was (and am) actually in a very similar situation with one year left on my BS. Bluebasser said it, there is quite the plethora of good bass fishing locations all over the state, especially in the Ozark region. I am just south of St. Louis and I have been surprised with the spots that i have found within 30 minutes of the city and how helpfull the anglers around have been in pointing me in the right direction since I started bass fishing 3 years ago. Usually when I am out near the middle of the state I am on a fishing trip or family reunion so LOZ, Table Rock, usually the larger and more well known locatins. Lower Taneycomo actually has good bass fishing as well which I accidently found out on my annual trout tournament, which is actually the reason I started to target Bass. Since I do not have a boat a lot of my fishing revolves around finding rivers, streams, and large creeks which have produced very well. Good luck! Give someone a fish and they will eat for a day, teach them how to fish and they will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.
  8. I am entered In! Good luck to all! Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.
  9. I have never fished these before but it looks like from the forums I read on other sites that people have been having problems determining that as well haha. From what I saw they said that they were having problems with the lure sinking in fresh water and that they believe due to the buoyancy of salt water that the lures are much more of a challenge to use in fresh water and were using specific rods for it. Which rods I could not determine but from what I read as well it seems like they fish it all the way from a jerk bait to a popper to a cigar bait (walk the dog style). I know this didn't answer your question but thought it may give some insight Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.

Renosky makes a really good bait for what you are describing, it is called their sonic swing minnow and comes in three different sizes. I have had a lot of luck using gulps as well so i bought one of the "live" containers and put the spinners in it over night for scent and just clean off the blade in the morning. I get it in rainbow colored and use it on Lake Taneycomo here in MO and have had a lot of luck with it! You are going to want to have the ability to weigh it down, which is pretty easy, and I like to put a little adhesive on it to prevent the soft plastic from sliding off after multiple fish. Good luck! Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.
  11. Certainly sounds shady to me, I feel like using electronics from a guide on a waterway that has waypoints in it should not be allowed in the first place and should constitute an immediate forfeit, but I didnt write the rules. Also, lie detecors for fishing... seriously? Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.
  12. Hello everyone, I am from Imperial and got into bass fishing about 3 years ago. Prior to that I was pretty much only a trout fisherman once a year but then I got into a small trout tournament on Taneycomo and fishing has turned from a pastime, to a passion, and now to an obsession. I try and get out 5 times a week, unfortunately I dont have a boat, and if there are fish in the water I will try to fish it! I am signing up for the BFL tournament at LOZ in october as a co-angler so I am very excited about that, and I am always looking to learn more not only about where to fish but how to fish.
  13. I do a lot of trout fishing here in MO and i like to use 7' UL rods, there are plenty of manufacturers out there, FW actually makes some good rods along with White River and St. Croix. I use a 7' UL guide series rod from Gander Mountain with 6lb blue mono on a Pfluger president reel I couldn't agree with you more, using UL gear just makes everything that much more of a challenge! Also If you are willing to try it, using fly fishing gear can be an absolute blast for bass on a small to medium sized pond, that has allowed me to have some of the most fun fishing I have ever had. I also am a big fan of throwing spinners, some of my favorite to throw are Joes Flys, they make larger sizes that are great for trout and I have caught some 3 lbs bass on them in a multitude of colors. Happy fishing and good luck!
