So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
We fished Saturday morning from daylight till 1:30 Indian Mounds and caught 3 keeper sized fish 5-6 ft of water. Went back out at 4:00 till dark in six mile and caught 14 bass on a Carolina rig on a underwater point 15' deep. Only 6 were keepers. Sunday morning fished Palo Gaucho and Lowes creek from daylight till 2:00 and caught zero bass. Went back to my point in six mile about 4:00 and caught 5 keepers. Also boated two 3-1/2 and one 5 pound fish in 25' water on a creek channel bend just before dark. It was tuff fishing overall for sure. The bite was definitely better for me later in the afternoon.

Congrats Bryan! Can somebody tell me who and what won it? For some odd reason the posted results start off with second place and don't show who or what won. I see ole Darold Gleason took third with 23 and change and a 9.7 pound kicker.

I've read somewhere that largemouth bass will spawn in water up to 8' but that seems kinda deep to me.

Darold Gleason is a really good guy and one of the best guides on the lake. http://www.gleasonfishing.com/

Thanks man. Maybe I'll just skip the 9 pounder and jump staright to 10 lol. Seriously though it is crazy how i caught those two fish. I cast between the same two stumps for both of them 6 days apart. Maybe a bigger one will be thier next time lol. I'll be deer hunting for the next few weeks now but will be back out there as soon as I can thats for sure.

Struggled this weekend but I did manage to catch a new personal best agaiin with a 8.33 that I caught Saturday afternoon. Hard to believe I catch my personal best two weekends in a row in the month of October. Caught this one on a chatterbait on a 5' flat that dropped off quick to deep water. No grass in the area just wood and baitfish.

Who's going this weekend? How bad do yall think the traffic is gonna be with the Toyota owners tournament and also Bass Cat regional owners tournament going on? I'm heading out this afternoon and staying until Monday afternoon. Might have to go try Big Sam if its to hectic. Never been to Rayburn before though. Where is the best place to put in if I'm coming from Hemphill? Any tips for Big Sam?

Fished Saturday and Sunday morning and caught good numbers but lots of small fish. Fished flats in 3 - 6 foot of water for the most part with traps and spinnerbaits. Did catch my new personal best yesterday that went 7.69 on my digital scale. Great day on the water for sure but man that ole girl was rough yesterday morning. Fished mid lake Palo Gaucho and Lowes creek. Would post pic but I'm not sure how to do it.

Question on humps. I have tried fishing plenty of humps with little success. What do you guys look for in a hump? Does it have to be near a crrek channel or the river? Or will just any hump have the potential to hold fish due to it being a change of depth from the rest of the surrounding water?

I was able to fish Saturday and Sunday morning. Caught 19 total with biggest being four pounds. Most were caught on points slowly retrieving a XCalibur rattle bait in shad color. A few flipping a green pumkin speed craw up around hay grass.

Toledo Bend, What To Expect?
Big Mammas has a great steak and lots of other good dishes. Good cold beer also! Fishing should be good as mentioned earlier. If you like to play golf Cypress Bend is a great course that is on the water with some really nice views of the lake. Hemphill BBQ is nothing fancy man but they have some pretty good grub as well. The main attraction there for me is Toledo Town Tackle store. I always seem to spend way to much money than I should in that place. They are priced a little higher than most other places but so many selections right at your fingertips is irresistible to me lol.

Well my motor didn't blow knock on wood... but we really struggled with the fishing. Caught a few schooling bass Friday morning daylight till 10:30 and that was it. Fished shallow early then out to about 25' as the morning progressed. Back on the water at Friday afternoon and scratched not even a single bite. Slept in and did yard work around the camp all day Saturday. Headed out to fish 7:30 Saturday night and fished till midnight. One two pounder and one four pounder with three other bites that took whole worm off hook. Tried chatterbaits , large Colorado blade spinner bait and worm. The few bites came on black ol monster worm . All fishing done mid lake Slaughter, Lowes and Palo Gaucho. I think next trip in two weeks i'm gonna head either far north or south because my determination to make myself fish mid lake close to camp has turned out some pretty slow trips as of late. Time for a change of scenery.

I think this ones gonna be way to big to drag kking lol . I'm always torn this time of year between night fishing or deep ridge fishing during the day. Cant decide what I want to do this weekend. These are the kind of problems I like to have, decisions , decisions, decisions.

Heading to the lake this weekend to do a little fishing. Its been two weeks so I'm chomping at the bit. Neighbor called yesterday and said that one of my trees fell on my lakeshore during some rough weather a couple days ago. Not sure what i'm going to encounter there but I'm hoping it isn't to bad. Just finally got the whole lakeshore cleaned up and looking the way I wanted it last trip.

We struggled also fishing in Palo Gaucho . Same places we caught them pretty good two weeks ago for the 4th we couldnt buy a bite. Did manage to put a few in the boat here and there but it was real slow. My son did hook into a pretty good one that had that rod bent over and was pulling drag and then it came unbuttoned. If it was a bass it was a dang good one. Fished sat night for about three hours and caught three fish all nice ones though up to five pounds.

I’m gonna put in right by my camp which is in Rebel Ridge Cove. It’s a small cove right next to the bluff wall on the Texas side pretty much straight across from Cypress Bend . From there I am going to fish Lowes Creek or Palo Gaucho . Being that I am situated right between the two I am determined to learn as much as possible about these two creeks. I am learning a little more every time I go but man it tough for a coon azz like me to learn to fish deep. I am getting more confidence in it all the time though and you just can’t beat pulling a nice chunk out of twenty feet of water. Where you planning to fish ?

Also while we still on this subject why is it in yalls opinion that the vast majority of these 10 plus pounders seem to be caught from the south side of the bridge? More fishing pressure? More accessible ? I'm sure that they must have the big girls up north just the same but the southern portion of the lake is almost always mentioned in these reports.

So the state record bass is 15 pounds 14oz if i'm not mistaken. How many of you think that there is a new state record bass swimming in Toledo's water? It seems that we see an ever increasing amount of 10 and 11 pounders but when you start getting into that 12 -13 pound range theres just not that many of them. I realize that that we are talking about some huge fish once you start getting into the lower teens but with as many big fish as we are seeing you would think that we would see the occasional 14 -15 pound fish or maybe a new state record. Whats your thoughts?

This is true for the most part. You can definitely catch them in the same places and with the same techniques at night. On the other hand I fish and catch fish at night in places where you cant buy a bite during the day. Did I totally screw up your head now ?

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
Just got back from 5 days on the bend. Fished mid lake the whole time. Had the wife and kiddos so I didnt really fish as hard as I would have like to but did manage a couple hours every morning and afternoon. Averaged about 7 fish or so every outing. Still havnt found them bunched up. Just one here one there. Plastics fished very slowly on main lake points 15 - 25 was about all i fished. Zoom ol monsters and my son kicked my butt one outing using a bait called a space monkey. He put together over a 16 pound stringer out the back of the boat and let me know all about it lol . All in all had a great time with the family, took the little ones play in the lake a bunch and had some refreshing blue cans at the camp. Cant wait to get back in two weeks. Oh me and the wife did try night fishing in the drizzling rain for about two hours after that storm Saturday evening and didnt get a bite. Fished from about ten till midnight. Maybe all the boat traffic from during the day and runoff from the thunderstorm shut them down??? We did get to see a bunch of fireworks out on the lake though even in a light rain.

That's some good stringers man. I would have got my but kicked lol. I probably only had about 12 pounds Saturday. Did pretty good yesterday morning. Found some fish on a ledge and caught 8 of them in about hour and a half with a couple four pounders mixed in . Twenty to twenty five foot of water plum colored zoom ole monster.
