  1. Drove up Friday night and was able to fish a little this weekend. Launched at day break on Saturday morning and started in Palo Gaucho for about two hours and not even a bite. I have been on some schooling fish in there but they never showed themselves. Moved over to Tennessee Bay for the remainder of the morning and fished points and humps deep for about another two hours with no bites. Moved shallow late morning and ended up catching two small ones and a 5 pounder by noon on white swim jig. Maybe should have been shallow all morning. Went back to the camp drank a few cold ones and boiled some shrimp. Took a lil nap in the late afternoon and then put the boat back in the water at dark thirty. First hour and a half pretty unproductive and then around 10:00 they started eating a lil bit. My son had a friend with us and his biggest bass to date was 4 pounds. Well his first fish of the night was 6.04 so he was a bit excited to say the least. Ended up catching about 12 fish by 2:00 am with two more between four and five pounds and four between three - four pounds. Figure best five would have went around 23 pounds. All fish were caught on points fishing same areas as the morning. Black and june-bug ole monster worms did the trick. Hers a pic of my son in his clown suit and his friend with the four nicest ones just before release.
  2. If you are in Patroon the chicken coop is literally right around the corner from you headed north. Best time of year to fish it that i have found is dead of winter. You will see the boats!
  3. Darold Gleason or Zack Gagnard. Both great guys and they stay on the fish.
  4. Good report Guidroz. I fished Palo Gaucho Sunday morning and never really got on anything. Did catch 4 all under 2 pounds in 15' fishing timber next to creek channel. One on top water, one on fluke , one on one knocker, and one on a spoon lol
  5. Anybody go this weekend? How was the bite? I stayed home and pressure washed the house and driveway but will be headed up this Friday for a couple days....
  6. So I have had my camp now a little over a year and have concentrated exclusively on learning a few mid lake areas. Pretty much Oil Well, Lowes, Palo Gaucho/Spring Hill and Slaughter. While I have had some good trips and broke my personal best 3 times in the last 12 months I find that more often than not I am struggling. It almost seems like when I used to just come up a couple times a year for the most part I had better fishing trips. I am now on the lake at least twice a month for 2-3 days at a time. I guess my question is do you guys that have experience in the areas that I am fishing think that possibly the fishing in general is just tougher in these areas. Meaning easier to get on patterns south or north vs mid lake? Or do I just suck that bad lol. I always catch a few fish but I am having trouble getting on numbers of anything. I’ve spent a lot of time fishing offshore ledges, humps, creek intersections/bends, points etc. and I just can’t seem to find the larger schools. Not even the whites are cooperating. What am I doing wrong? Or do I just need to start venturing elsewhere? One thing is for sure besides a little hay grass i'm not finding much of any other type of grass...especially deep.
  7. If you give me the coordinates to the deep hydrilla i'll go out and take a first hand look so i can give you the proper technique.
  8. Cool deal ... That's a good tip, thanks!
  9. Rubber hose trick?
  10. Good report Ronnie. Got on the lake Friday afternoon about 6:00 and fished till 10:00. Only caught two bass and both were before dark on black poppin frog, nothing after dark. Had one bite on ole monster worm and broke off. Saturday took kids crappie fishing and caught about thirty with a couple channel cats mixed in 20' water brushpiles. Saturday afternoon yard work around camp then cold brews on the porch. Sunday morning coffee on the dock and caught about thirty bluegill fishing night crawlers under popping cork. About 15 were pretty nice size, bigger than my hand. Overall nice break from the hardcore bass fishing we been doing. Just kinda chill-laxed this weekend. Fished Palo Gaucho for bass and crappie.
  11. I was really surprised at how many of the anglers started and stayed shallow all day. I still think it will be won offshore but just goes to show you with the tail end of the shad spawn and water being up there's still a fair amount of shallow fish.
  12. No problem bud. Fishing is a little tuff in that area right now but that pattern did produce some fish for me this month. I also suggest dragging a carolina rig off points a little deeper in the same area. A chartreuse perch colored kvd 1.5 also produced a few fish.in 4' - 7' of water.
  13. I wouldn't go far jp. Fish from the backs of the creeks past to the 1215 bridges north side of La Nana and work your way back toward the bridges with watermelon red trick worms tail dipped in chartreuse or weightless texas rigged senkos in christmas tree color. The fish in this area are mostly post spawn but they are still in the area.
  14. Sent you a message JC
  15. Awesome day BF! Were they post spawn? Why you breaking off so much brother? Ive broke off more this year than ever before myself but I've also used fluorocarbon alot more for the first time. Pay really close attention to my knots and moistening them and all that stuff but man I've lost some confidence in the stuff. Never broke off so much on big game or braid just saying.
  16. I got a 14 year old who is going to be fishing out the back of the boat with me this weekend and he is more interested in crappie fishing than bass. Me not so much. Im not much of a crappie fisherman so my question is are they starting to move to the shallow water yet? Any particular creeks known as being better for white perch. I’m gonna bass fish but he wants to do the tube jig , beetle spin type stuff for some slabs. Any pointers appreciated. Report for last weekend goes like this. Fished around Big Bass Marina, Yokum, Indian Mounds, Oilwell, Lowes Creek. Probably caught about thirty fish total Thursday – Sunday. Big fish for us was 7.90. Most consistent pattern was 1/2oz weight junebug colored speed craw flipped around wood and buck brush. Caught a few fish on a perch colored square bill, white swim jig and Toledo Perch Santone spinnerbait. My son fished Pirates Cove with a buddy and ther biggest fish went 8-1/2 and they caught two over 5 pounds also. Black and blue Christy Craw.
  17. Was gonna go up this weekend to prefish for Texas Oil man's next week but I don't know now. Probably just show up and fish next week if they don't reschedule it. Probably still go to camp this weekend check on everything and clean up yard.
  18. taken today...unbelievable
  19. That's some nice screen shots. I'm still learning my electronics as well but I would say that it definitely looks like you were around some fish. I just cant say what kind lol. Catch any of those you marked?
  20. Good fish Rippin .. congrats! Thanks for the report LSU. Sounds like yall had a good time. What won the Rattle Trap derby? I wasn't able to make it.
  21. Yeah you right Catt. Fished White Oak/ Indian Mounds area Friday all day till 6:00. Got my first and only bite of the day at 4:30 and it was a 5 pound fish on a xcalibur red one knocker. Cant explain it beautiful conditions and tried everything. Back at em Saturday and caught 5 solid keepers on a texas craw color all terrain jig with a speed craw trailer way up shallow. Three over 4 pounds. A couple small ones on a spinnerbait. Sunday morning went to Hines creek for 3-1/2 hours and scratched.
  22. Me and my son will probably fish it. Might drive me crazy though only being able to throw a trap all day lol.
  23. Geez louise that's a nice sacalait. A couple years ago we caught some pretty big ones like 2-1/2 pounds plus in Patroon. That one looks alot bigger.
  24. Yeah Ronnie my camp is in the lil cove right on side of Goodlow Bluff on the Texas side. The east/west boat lane from cypress bend side by island will take you right into mouth of cove. If you idle straight to the back of the cove dead center you will hit my bank. White mobile home up on the hill and only trailer in the cove lol. I'm surrounded by big nice cabins but my place is a dream come true to me and sits on two waterfront lots. If you ever around there swing on in and drink a cold one. I run a gunmetal, silver, red trim Phoenix 921. I'll keep an eye out for ya. Wife and kids stayed the whole week i had to come back to work. I'm headed back Friday for the weekend. Just got a text from my 13 year old and he is tearing up the catfish right now fishing off the bank on some stink bait he bought at Keiths. Good eatin! Denny
  25. I was marking anywhere between 52 and 54 for the most part mid lake.
