Finding Ledges
Have you checked out Deeper? Its a castable depthfinder that links by bluetooth to your smart phone. They make attachments for attaching it to your boat/canoe/kayak. I use it pretty regularly given that I mostly bank fish and I really like it. I was able to snag it for like $200 on Amazon. I dont know your budget, but I think that is pretty reasonable given that a middle-of-the-road rod/reel combo can cost $200.

Who was the most help teaching you how to fish for bass?
I pretty much taught myself bass fishing. With the internet, and this website, you can learn a lot. I grew up trout fishing with my grandfather, and he taught me most everything about general/trout fishing. I have recently joined the North Alabama Bass Club, and hope to learn a lot from some of the older guys in the club. With just having moved to Alabama, the learning curve with these lakes on the Tennessee River is steep. I hope to figure this place out. I'm really excited about the opportunity to catch some big Alabama bass.

How would you fish this pond?
If they arent shallow early, then I would go straight to the 12-20ft range.

How would you fish this pond?
I think I would fish this like I would fish anything else in the summer time. Given the water temperature, I would target fish from 5-10 feet of water in the morning time. Once the morning bite ended, I would target cover from 12-20ft on humps, ledges, and points. Then in the evening I would target shallow again. This is all dependent on visual activity of bait balls and whatever else you can see if shad are the primary forage. Also dependent on the type of grass mats or algae present in the lake. I was ripping a lipless crankbait through bait balls on Guntersville a week or so ago, and had great luck. This is just my opinion from the cheap seats as I am not a professional. Good Luck and I hope you catch tons of fish.

Copper sulfate
I would imagine they are doing this to control some sort of algae bloom thats going on. I would imagine that this would impact the fishing. Im sure the fish need time to react to this chemical being put in their habitat. Copper Sulfate also kills off invertebrates that bay be beneficial to the forage in the impoundment. The forage could dye off because of the lack of invertebrates that they used to feed on, which could also negatively impact fishing given that the bass have less forage. Im not scientist, but this is just my best guess.

Fishing heavy algae pond
Yeah. Its important to give the frog that 2 sec wait before the hook set. That is one of the hardest things to do in my opinion.

Why do you fish?
I fish to get out of the house. Kind of the same reason I play golf. The surroundings with both sports are generally beautiful. There is almost no better feeling than when you hit a great golf shot. And there is almost no better feeling than setting the hook and feeling that line go tight. Feeling the line go tight and the first head flip of the fish, knowing youre not hung up, is pretty great. Thats why I do it.

What Are These?
They may be some type of bream or panfish hitting bugs or something on top. Ive seen this too, where I fish. I have never noticed it impacting a bit though. But then again, I rarely target smallmouth.

Bass vs Carp
I think it may have to do with the carp being there to eat the grass or algae or whatever they are there for. If the carp are in there tearing up the grass that the bass are using as cover and for enriched oxygen, it may run the bass out of there. I have no idea if this is right. Just a guess.

New Member in NOVA
Welcome! This is a great site with lots of information. I would read all the articles related to beginner level fishing and kayaking. There are both. I would also invest in some Senkos. These consistently catch bass and are a favorite among bass fishermen on days with a tough bite. This could really help your confidence and allow you to have some fun out there. Good luck!

Heartbreaking!!!!! Your Worst Misses.
If it wasnt faulty, you would imagine the line would give out before the hook.

Heartbreaking!!!!! Your Worst Misses.
If it wasnt a faulty hook, I would imagine it would have to be a monster to bend out a hook.

Heartbreaking!!!!! Your Worst Misses.
I was fishing a Senko on 20# braid. Something hammered it on the initial fall. I set the mess out of the hook and my line snapped. There was a huge swirl, but I couldnt tell what it was. I think it may have been a turtle. It was either that, or a state record bass to be able to break 20# braid. Either way, I was pretty upset about not knowing what it was.

Feeling Bummed Out
Bob Lusk was talking about how its good for some fisheries to take out those 10-15 inch bass. Apparently the smaller bass make it more difficult for the larger bass to eat enough to grow later in life, or something to that effect. Anyway, you shouldnt feel too bad. At least it didnt go to waste.
