  1. I have been strongly considering becoming a multi species guide in the very near future and would like to hear some good advice, tips, and just what to expect starting out. I would be guiding central, eastern, and southeast Kansas lakes and rivers in areas that I grew up fishing and still fish today. I know Kansas no longer requires licensing for guides and outfitters but I'm sure liability insurance with comprehensive coverage on gear would be a necessity as well as current CPR and first aid certification. What else would be a necessity? I'm looking at doing guided Kayak fishing mainly with emphasis on Largemouth, Smallmouth, White Bass, Crappie, Channel and Flathead Catfish. I have pretty good business sense I just don't know the ins and outs of guiding and it seems a little secretive in regard to available information.
  2. Did everyone give up in July? I'm gonna get an early start this year.
  3. I had several blowups on my bullfrog colored booyah poppin pad crasher this morning at emery, hit the water and was nailed, no good hookups but glad to see it was working even in the wind and choppy water.
  4. I was raised on the Verdigris further north. Inline spinners such as mepps always did the trick for us.
  5. It has been in the high 90s for a while here in south central Kansas and I am still catching them shallow on lipless cranks and t and c rigged creature baits and worms as well as senkos. But, more oxygenated water is what you are after so shaded areas or slightly deeper. What is the water like there, clear or stained or muddy?
  6. Have a boat? No, but I would love a fishing kayak. Right now I learn more bank fishing since I cant just motor or paddle to the most ideal spot on the lake.
  7. Yep, throw in a pause or a pop of the rod tip, maybe slow down the retrieve. If that doesnt bring a strike maybe try a soft plastic as a follow up. Sometimes reaction baits just flat dont work no matter what you try.
  8. As far as set up it depends on bottom composition, time of year, and weather. Generally holes above and below riffles, slack water areas, and towards the inside of bends.
  9. 3/0 octopus circle is my favorite for carp, and after catching some big ones that is as small as I go.
  10. I bet that craw was doing some funky stuff. Different can be good, especially in pressured water. And those gills are feisty, I have seen plenty take on my big creature baits.
  11. I usually only give slack by lowering the rod tip, that is just how I have always fished. Works for me, results may vary.
  12. Fishing a booyah poppin pad crasher today on and around grass mats when I made a cast to the outside edge, frog hit the water and I let it settle and BOOM, huge blowup on it, let it take it reeled my slack, felt the weight of the fish, set the hook hard and started cranking in, made it to the inside edge and the fish spit the hook. There were several kids watching that were interested in how I was fishing and I would have loved to show them what blew up on my lure.
  13. Sounds like senkos are working good for a lot of people right now. A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work. Thanks. Trees and sticks mean cover, mainly looking for a place to get on some fish with frogs. Emery is ok but havent caught it with no wind. Lately what I have caught has been in calm water, little coves and corners mainly. I havent seen any yet anywhere but Ive been stuck fairly close to home, Ill have to go have a look in Derby.
  14. Here I have been focusing on topwater and small lightweight stuff to get through the milfoil. Time to bust out some more money and invest in another "technique".
  15. I am loving the booyah poppin pad crasher I got it pops, chugs, walks, pops and walks, pops and hops, all depending on how I twitch the rod. I believe a few more may be in order.
  16. Thank you, I'm really liking it.
  17. I made one recently from some 1/8 stainless for an old Lews rod I found in a pawn shop. Just used a stainless nyloc nut that fit the original stainless screw from fuji.
  18. I only bought mine as it was on sale SUPER cheap compared to other large frogs. Who and what is the best? I am always interested in others thoughts.
  19. Welcome from another Kansan, Woodson county raised. Lots of info here, enjoy!
  20. I sealed the hooks on mine up with E6000 industrial strength adhesive.
  21. Im using 65 lb power pro but I am the odd man out with an older 6ft Lews Speed Stik all fiberglass medium heavy fast action with TONS of backbone. Older daiwa bw2 with drag locked that is a WINCH. $15 combo LOL, pawn shop score because it needed a rod tip and reel seat clamp. I prefer shorter rods brcause right now I am primarily on the bank in overgrown areas.
  22. Which part of the nature center? I'm having trouble figuring out exactly where they allow fishing, kind of vague. Did fish chisholm lake and caught a couple on big bite baits 8" kriet tail lizards in texas red green pumpkin color rigged weightless. Fish were 15ft or so off the bank, guessing about 6 to 10 feet of water.
  23. Thanks, mainly wanted to try to cover multiple scenarios. If I bust anything 8lbs or bigger I will be extremely happy. Will do, look pretty good, about the same size as scum frogs with short "legs", went ahead and sealed the hook up.
  24. Well, I couldn't resist some sales on frogs today so picked up a lunker hunt combat frog in cane pattern and booyah poppin pad crasher in bull frog pattern and a little frog from jawbone tackle that my daughter picked out.
  25. Lunker hunt (all one word though) combat frog.
