  1. If it is for a baitcaster the St.Croix Avid 7 MF. If it is for a spinning rod, the St.Croix Avid 6'8'' MXF.
  2. Fenwick Elite Tech 7'3'' H Fast. This is actually made for heavy and deep jigs/softplastic but it works great for deep cranks. It does a great job of setting the hook on anything deep. It has plenty of power and the sensitivity is good.
  3. I have a Curado 201 G but I am thinking another Core may be in order. Maybe the 51MG7. That will have to wait until next year. In the mean time, I have a Core 101MG that I have been using for the past 7 years. It works like it is brand new. I can't wait for the new rod to come in though.....
  4. Pin breaks are easy. You can just set two breaks with most Shimanos and be done with it, especially the Core. I never been sold on magnetic breaks as a fool proof system. This does not mean that they don't work well. I just think centrifugal brakes do it better (this, of course, is just an opinion).
  5. Clint Eastwood.... Helen Miran....
  6. It will be a while before I can get it but a new NRX will be in my hands sometime in October. I am going with 853C Green. I also did a little research as to why my new 783 is a little different... I found out G. Loomis has new ovens that cure their material in a more consistent manner and a new painting system. Not sure how this improves or changes the rod I have but it is noticeable. I also have not counted out that the rod may have, over time, become less sensitive due to usage but this is just a theory.
  7. The Core would be my choice. Another great choice would be the Calcutta D.
  8. I have done it three times this year, which is a first. One was caused by a guy at Gander Mountain putting the line on wrong/loose. The other two are on me. I casting near the bank and snagged a weed behind me and the other was caused by getting the lure snagged on the side of the boat during a cast. Any other backlashes, I can usually dig out with out issue.
  9. The shimano stradic 2500 or the pflueger patriarch the size above the smallest.
  10. Does that thing have foam grips? It's ugly but if it is on par with the Tatula then it might not be so bad.
  11. I took out the new 783GLX today and it was amazing. I have had my old rod for 8 years and for whatever reason, the new one felt more sensitive and lighter. It looks exactly the same as the old one but something is different. One things for sure, it was nice to feel the new cork on the rod. My old one was starting to look like swiss cheese. If you have not fished this rod before, it has the amazing ability to make a small fish feel like a monster (fun stuff).... I did however catch 11 Largemouths in about 90 minutes. 10 of those were on Fat Ikas. 2 of them were also in the 4-5 pound range. All the rest were small but fun.
  12. I will have to check with the tackle shop guy to see if I can get this with the exchange. If it does, there is no question that the NRX is the way to go. But which one to get???? Maybe the 7'5'' MH Senko rod?
  13. How about a St.Croix LEC68MXF? This is the Legend Elite series. If my memory serves me right, this rods power is similar to a MH G. Loomis rod. The sensitivity is excellent and it has a full cork handle. It works great for soft plastic and spinner baits. One thing I thought was weird and was difficult to get use to, was how fast this rod loaded. What did you intend to use it for?
  14. That was not all of the bad that happened this day (the rods are the worst though). I left to go to one of my favorite spots, it usually takes me about 60-90 min to get there. I was 30 min away and the road to lake was closed. I had to go an extra 45 minutes out of the way to get there. Then I got lost on a gravel country road. When I finally got there, it was hot and the fish had gone down for a nap. Nothing was biting. Finally around 2pm I hooked up with a few. By 6pm I had caught 9 but nothing big. I did not get home until 10pm. The detour I took to get there was closed as well due to an accident. I would usually be home somewhere between 6 and 7. I was just a messed up day.
  15. I tried it a few years ago and it is not bad. I would compare it to something between Yozuri hybrid and Yozuri hybrid ultra soft.
  16. We have a Wal-Mart up the street from us. I don't shop there any more but I decided to check it out today and even though it is a huge store, they have very little in the way of fishing gear. One other thing I noticed is their prices were the same and if not higher than Dick's Sporting Goods. They had a stack of dusty, rusted fishing lures on clearance but that was it. This Wal-Mart use to be bad but now it is even worse. It was a total dump. It use to be OK during the day and crazy at night. Now it seems to be scary all day long. Oddly enough, the Sam's Club next door is nice.
  17. Just like the title states I broke two rods going through the drive through at a fast food joint. Luckily both were G. Loomis rods but they were my favorites. I had them in my wife's car and I rolled down the windows and forgot she had automatic windows. If you push the up button twice it rolls all the windows up. Next thing I know, snap, and my 783 GLX and BCR 803 GLX both tips cracked. My heart sank and I hoped the Xpeditor service was going to save me but..... I called my local tackle shop where I bought the BCR 803 GLX and he said he would take them off my hands and give me new ones if he had them in stock or he could order what I want and I could pay the difference but I would still have to pay the $100 for each to cover his end with G. Loomis. He had the 783GLX in stock, so there went $100. I can't complain, for $100 I got a new rod. He did not have the BCR803 GLX in stock so I am faced with a dilemma.... Do I exchange my old best friend for the new GLX version of this rod or do I go all out and pay the difference and have him order a NRX rod? What do you guys think? On a side note I did call G.Loomis on Friday when this happened and usually I have a positive experience with these guys but I got what sounded like a guy who had never looked at a rod before. He was clueless. First he said the Xpeditor service does not cover accidental damage, then he said both of the rods I had, had been discontinued. I then read there online policy to him and told him where to find the rods on their website. I then decided to call my local shop and go a different route. Seemed really weird though, I am wondering if Shimano has had in influence on G. Loomis' customer service.
  18. Their baitcasters have sometimes been questionable but the their spinning reels are probably one of the best bangs for the buck. I don't own one but I have fished a buddy's President on several occasions and it is a solid reel.
  19. I've tried 10lb on my Stradics and did not care for it. The 6lb is awesome though. I would go with the ultra soft instead of the regular hybrid.
  20. I had seen a nude mermaid lure and another that looked like Marilyn Monroe that would appear to loose it's clothes when wet. I also remember a 10 treble hook jerk bait. One more that stands out.... I had seen a lure a few years ago that looked like a plastic float with a red light in it that made various sounds in the water. It had two treble hooks and was about the size of a musky bait. I think it went down to a depth of maybe five feet. It looked funny and it could croak, snap, and make bubble sounds. No idea who made it or if it caught fish but it looked fun.
  21. I have used Owner, Gamikatsu, old eagle claw, and X points. All of them can hurt you but nothing I have used has compared to the Trokar hooks. I had a 4/0 EWG that I got hung up with snap back at me and grazed my hand. It made a cut on my arm like surgical knife. It was so clean I was able to close the wound with surgical glue. On a side note, years ago I got a treble hook stuck in my brothers head. We had to take him to the ER. The used a drumel type tool to cut the wire since the regular cutters did not work. Thank God they numbed him. It looked extremely painful. Luckily all went well and he didn't kill me.
  22. G. Loomis 803c GLX jig and worm rod. Can't remember how many fish I have caught with this rod but it is awesome.
  23. There is the GL2 but it not a good rod. The good quality rods with G.Loomis start with the IMX line up. Just bide your time and save your money.
  24. Some other reading with Curado B..... http://www.calfishing.com/freshwater/shimano_curado_maintenance_guide/Servicing_the_CU200B.html
