  1. Got the TW order today. 4 reels I ordered to compare: * Daiwa SV Casting Reel 103XSL * Daiwa Steez A TW Casting Reel 1016HL * Daiwa Zillion HD Casting Reel 100HSL * Shimano Metanium MGL Casting Reel 151HG My resume: Did not like the feel of the SV103 in my hand (on the rod) for some reason --> Out The Daiwa Zillion HD had a sturdy feel to it, though I did not like the round handles and also the weight was a bit more than I would like --> Out Daiwa Steez A. and Metanium I spooled up with 15 pound Yo-Zuri Hybrid Fishing Line Clear and went on a field and casted a few times with a 1oz lipless crankbait. My result: Distance wise: they are about the same, though the Metanium was a bit less effort. LIne capacity: I can see that there is more left on the Steez when I bomb it out, but it should be fine if I put braid on the reel with a mono leader Retrieve. Here the handle of the Metanium just felt sooo much better. The Steez almost hurt a bit when reeling in. Final decision: I am gonna keep the Metanium. (Slowly turning into a Shimano man with my Conquest, Antares and now Metanium). Let's hope I made the right decision!
  2. WHen you guys are carrying the rods, how do you manage it? Carry them in hand and then put the ones down that you dont use?
  3. Yep, I ordered a couple of reels as mentioned previously, from TW. I will put them on my rod and just get a feel for them. I live 1h away from the next tackle store, so it is great to be able to take advantage of the return policy of TW. I also purchased with my discover IT card, so if I see a better price somewhere else in the next 3 months, discover will match that price!
  4. I sent the reel back to TW already. Noway to test any more. I think I am gonna decide between the Steez A and the Zillion HD. Both are for the salt and both have good line capacity. The zillion is 1 oz heavier and has the handle knobs that I am not really a fan of, but is almost 100 USD cheaper.
  5. Haven't touched the reel other than fishing it. Yeah no idea how this could have happened..
  6. Well, I ordered 4 reels to compare: - Steel A in 6:3.1 ( since the faster ratio is out) - Metanium MGL in 7 ratio - Daiwa SV103 in 7.9 ratio (is that reel saltwater proo?) - Daiwa Zillion HD (seems to be saltwater proffed, but can not find a official statement on it) Will check them out and see which one I like best and have most faith in. I d use the Metanium, but the line rating concerns me since it is only 12/100 and I want to put 15-16 pound mono on it and I rete a lot. Which one would you choose?
  7. Are there any reviews out there for the Daiwa Steez SV TWS? Would love to know a bit more about the durability (freshwater only).
  8. I can imagine it is the silver pin that sits right behind the worm shaft and is there to keep the two side plates in check. I think I might go with the slower ratio instead for the Daiwa Steez A. Though I am still eying at the Daiwa Steez SV TWS, which would rule out saltwater use though (which is ok). I am just worried about the lure weights that I can throw with the reel. 1/4 oz - 1.5oz is a bigger spectrum and I do not want to over stress the reel...
  9. Ok, my model is not deliverable until August 30th. I do not want to wait that long for the replacement. So, I am considering other reels. On the the list are: * Daiwa Steez SV TWS Casting Reels 7.1:1 * Metanium MGL 8.5:1 * Abu Garcia REVO MGXTREME2 8.0:1 I would like to use the reel for: Topwater, Spinnerbaits, lipless crankbaits (lure weights: 1/4 - 1.5 oz) It is important to me that the reel is: Sturdy, has a good line capacity (at least 100yards of 14# mono) and is light (below 7oz) What would you choose? Are there other options out there? Thanks!
  10. Oh well. I am just giving it another try, what can go wrong...
  11. I am hearing about more and more issues with the new Steez A. I am wondering if I should exchange it to something else: * Daiwa Zillion HD Casting Reels * Shimano Metanium MGL Casting Reel * Abu Garcia REVO MGX Casting Reel I liked the reel from a performance, look and feel. But I am worried that I will have another issue with it down the road...
  12. I contacted TW and they told me that I should send it to them and they will exchange it. Great service! One of the reasons that I stick with them, even if I have to pay sales tax as a Cali boy!
  13. Well, not that obvious to me besides reaching out to Daiwa. What am I missing?
  14. Hi all, I bought a Daiwa Steez A TW Casting Reel 1016SHL on the 10th of May 2017 from Tackle Warehouse. After my 2nd outing with the reel two issues occurred with the reel. 1st: The pin that is adding to the stability of the reel got loose and eventually fell out. 2nd: The reel started making weird noises on retrieve.I have to say that I am a bit disappointed that this happens on a 450 USD reel within the first 4 weeks, which is supposed to be a flagship reel of Daiwa. I have not experienced this with my high end reels from Shimano. It seems like this is a lemon... I sent the daiwa guys videos of the two issues and eventually called them to follow up. They told me I have to send the reel in and expect a turn around time of 3-4 weeks. This is kind of unacceptable to me, given the time that I have used the reel and the price class that the reel is in. What would you do? Thanks!
  15. I have used the Steez A for a couple of outings and with the right line it casts almost as far as my Antares DC.
  16. What do you mean? There is a way to get 25% on TW?
  17. Hi all, I am deciding between the two reels: * Daiwa Steez A TW Casting Reel * Daiwa Steez SV TWS Casting Reels I would like to use the reel for some inshore fishing as well. The Aluminium one seems to be the choice here but I on this Japanese tackle website it seems like this is also indicated for salt water use: http://japantackle.com/casting-reels/daiwa/low-profile-casting-reels/reg0000195.html Has anyone had the chance to fish either / both of them? What ya guys thinking?
  18. Hi all, I am finding myself more and more in situations where I am depending on my rod that I have always in my car. That rod is a Ugly Stik GX2 Casting Rod. Super robust and affordable, but at the same time also super heavy and not sensitive. So, I am wondering if there are some good alternatives out there that are lighter and more sensitive. I would like to stay in the 3/8 - 1 oz range, length around 6'6 - 7 foot. Would be great to hear what you guys are using/recommending! Thanks. Cheers, Seb.
  19. So, I went into my backyard and tested the the Steez and the Conquest and compared them against my Antares and my Lew's Inshore BB2. All but the Antares where spooled with 15pound mono. Here is the essence of my testing: 1. The Steez felt solid during retrieves, not much (if at all) play in the handle. Casting distance was good. Same distance as my Lew's. Though I felt that the line capacity was not sufficient. On long casts I had maybe 15% line left. Since I was planning to use the reel also for inshore fishing, that turned out to be a deal braker. 2. Conquest 101. Super solid feel on retrieve. Ability to palm was ok, but not outstanding. I casted a 1oz lure and I had maybe 5 turns of line left. Great cast ability but the line capacity is just not sufficient. Result: I am sending the reels back. I am keeping the Daiwa Steez ST rod, which I am gonna pair with my 2016 Antares DC. I am gonna keep using the Lew's as my crank/topwater reel (which I wanted to use as a back up reel and rod combo that I would leave always in my car). It casts as well as the Steez, is almost as sturdy and just the added weight is not too bad. Saved a couple of bucks (that I can use at some other point in time)!
  20. What are the thoughts on the Alu Steez at this point? I am considering one but would like to know what owners think of it. Thanks!
  21. The Demos is a sweet luckily reel. The tip is not soft enough tough. I am 6'3 myself, but I like the feeling of a shorter rod for applications where I want to be precise with my casts. Couldn't sleep because they choices kept me awake. Lol I think I am also bringing the Daiwa Steel ST into the equation. I looked at it more and I like it actually a lot. I was just not able to get some quality reviews on the rod. Anyone with experience on the rod Daiwa Steez XT Casting Rod 7' Med Hvy Thanks all!
  22. So, I received the order today. The Metanium is definetely out. Just not loving it, also it is too close in look and feel to my Antares. Now the surprising part: I am really digging the Steez. Finish is great and it palms sooo much better than the Conquest. I was also a bit disappointed on just how little line I could get onto the conquest, it almost felt like half the line capacity of the Steez. I am strongly tending towards the Steez at this point. I will throw a 2-3 times with the reels in my backyard to see if there is a significant difference between the two reels that would make me change my mind. Rod wise I narrowed it down to: St. Croix Legend Elite Casting Rod 6'8" Med Hvy (the Extremes just did not feel that comfortable and customer service of St.Croix said that the guides of the Elite are a bit more robust than the Extreme's) + I love the tip (just what I am looking for) + Handle has a good feel to it + Hook keeper design is great + 50 USD cheaper than the G.Loomis - I wish the handle was a bit longer - Micro guides not as robust - reel seat not as nice as the one on the G.Loomis G. Loomis GLX Casting Rod 7' Heavy 844C MBR + Reel seat feels and looks very nice + has a broughter lure weight spectrum (1/4oz - 1oz vs 3/8 - 1 on the St.Croix) + 'Regular' Guides (I think they are more robust which is important to me as a bank fisherman) - Hook keeper design not as robust as on the St.Croix --> My mind tends to the G.Loomis (seems more robust and more versatile, though the tip is not fast enough for my taste). My heart though tends a bit more towards the St.Croix. Any thoughts on my thinking process?
  23. They are both nice reels. Though I think that the Conquest might be the better long term investment. It seems just more sturdy!
  24. I am not sure yet. I ordered a couple of rods from TW to get a feel with the reel. Candidates are: Daiwa Steez XT Casting Rod 7' Med Hvy Destroyer USA Casting Rod 7'1" FMJ Destroyer USA Casting Rod 7'2" Daemos St. Croix Legend Elite Casting Rod 6'8" Med Hvy St. Croix Legend Xtreme Casting Rod 7' Med Hvy St. Croix Legend Xtreme Casting Rod 7'1" Med Hvy X Fa 0 G. Loomis GLX Casting Rod 7' Heavy 844C MBR Any thoughts on these? Use would be: be a good all around rod, with focus on Spinnerbaits, Jigs and small swimbaits
