  1. I think you guys have convinced me! I will have to bite the bullet and get the most expensive one. I am going with the 101.
  2. I was looking into those as well. Though I would like my reel to be ready for the salt as well, that is why I took those reels out of the equation.
  3. Thanks for your opinion! Interesting. Might steer me more into the Conquest direction. I ordered all of them from TW and I will have a look and mount them on my rod to see which feels best.
  4. Which version of the Steez where you disappointed with and what was the reason of disappointment if I may ask?
  5. Oh wow. I def. do not have the skills nor the tools to do the same thing. Congrats to you for that skill! For me the trade off is: Lighter and probably not as refined (Steez/Metanium) or 0.6 oz more weight and the best refinement that money can buy (Conquest)
  6. Lambo! German Engineering yo! Which one would be the lambo?
  7. Hi all, my all around reel broke and I am in the market for a new one. The requirements for the reel would be: * Smooth caster * sturdy * salt water safe * light Techniques that I would use the reel for are: * Spinnerbaits * Chatterbaits * Jigs * smaller swimbaits (up to 1.5 oz) Would be interested in your thoughts! Thanks!
  8. I have the reel I can second this suggestion! Looks nice, casts nice and you do not brake the bank
  9. Agreed with the previous comments. Any basic reel should do it. What I would be asking myself though is: will I be throwing even bigger baits in the not so far future? If there is a chance for a yes, I would look into bigger reels at the 300 size. Also, do you want to use it for bass only, or is there a chance that something bigger might bite. If yes, consider the drag to be more important. And last: do you want to use it for freshwater only or also for saltwater applications? If yes, get a inshore version. In regards to reels I would suggest something like a Daiwa Lexa 300. Solid reel that you can get for less than 150 USD.
  10. Happens to me once every month. I think I will smarten up, until it happens again. For me this means most of the time I have to rip of the line from the spool, since my MOAB is at the point of no return.
  11. WEll, turns out that it does not work... I thought I could combine a code on a gift card to use again for the main order...
  12. What do you mean?
  13. Just called lan d b!g f!sh and they told me that I am not able to combine the a gift card that has been purchased with the promo code for new products with the same promo code... Would have been too good to be true! Darn it.
  14. Thanks for taking the time to write this! To answer the questions you asked: I want to use the rod together with a Antares reel. I would spool 12 pound fluor on it. Since it is my all around combo when I can just bring one combo with me (I am a bank fisherman for 99.99%) I am looking for a versatile rod. The main applications would be (in order): 1. Spinner baits 2. Lippe crank baits 3. small Keith swim baits 4.3 Oz with up to 3/4 quarter swim bait hook) 4. Jigs In terms of the action: let's see if I get this right.. I would like the tip to be softer so that I have a bit more control at the cast and also feel a bit more for bottom contact lures paired with a good backbone to set a jig hook. The avid x in this regard was just OK since it's blank was loading more like a crank rod. Hope I explained myself correctly. .thanks again for all your time!
  15. Thanks. I was planning to sell the Avid X to upgrade anyways. Now, plans have changed a bit but the mission is still the same!
  16. because i can get almost 40% off on it. Just not sure on which one to get. Those first world choices keep one really up at night..
  17. Ok, I think I want to take advantage of the deal at another site . So, I want to choose between the following three rods: * GLX 843C MBR * St. Croix Legend Xtreme Casting Rod 7' Med Hvy * St. Croix Legend Xtreme Casting Rod 7'1" Med Hvy X Fa I am not sure if the lure rating of 1/4-3/4oz or 3/8-1oz is favorable. Thoughts?
  18. Hi all, I had put my Avid X onto craigslist, since I wanted to sell it in order to update my all around rod. Yesterday I wanted to fish it one last time. What can I say, it was one of those days... Lost 3 brand new lures (total loss 30 USD) and 2 other lures (another 15 USD). The icing on the cake was that I fully broke off two guides on my Rod, when I tried to un snag a lure (that I of course also lost..). So, I am wondering what to do. This was my all - around stick for going out when I just wanted to bring one combo (i have it paired with a Antares DC). I wanted to upgrade because I did not like the tip (it was rated as fast, but it felt more like a medium fast to me) and the sensitivity was not to the level where I would like it to be. I used the rod for anything from Spinnerbaits, lipless crankbaits to jigs. So therefor I started looking into other rods such as: I am looking for a rod that is Medium heavy (can throw idally lures from 1/8 - 1 os), has a extra fast taper, no micro guides, longer handle, super sensitive, robust and has good warranty * Megabass Destroyer USA Casting Rod 7'2" Daemos * Kistler Z-Bone LEXF Casting Rod 7'3" Med Hvy * St. Croix Legend Xtreme Casting Rod 7'1" Med Hvy X Fa ( which I would probably get through the upgrade program) * G. Loomis GLX 843C MBR Mag Bass Casting Rod or G. Loomis GLX 844C MBR Mag Bass Casting Rod * Orochi XX Casting Rod 7'2" Diablo Spec R * Daiwa Steez SVF AGS Casting Rod 7'1" Heavy * St. Croix Legend Elite Casting Rod 7'1" Med Hvy * something else? Would love to get your thoughts on the rod that I should get. Also what do you think should I do with the Avid X? What do you think the I would get for the Avid X (besides the guide it is in good condition)? Thank you very much for your help again guys!
  19. Have a look at the Dobyns Fury, okuma TSC and iRods.
  20. I think I do not want to spend more than necessary, where necessary is hard to define sometimes I rather spend another 100 USD and be fully happy than saving a hundred USD and keep asking me 'what if I had spend 100 USD more?' Shimano 1000/2500 Stradic FK and a Legend Extreme (inshore)? Is there a reason why the Inshore is heavier and has different guides? Does it make it more robust in comparison to the fresh water one?
  21. But why would you then use a 'cheaper' rod as the Fury? I am not a native speaker, so I might understand 'skimp' wrong
  22. LOL! Whenever I think I can settle on a selection somebody shows up and makes good arguments! I think you are right, that I expect a twice as sensitive set up from twice the price. Which it sounds I will NOT get and therefor might rather save my hard earned bucks! I will rethink the rod! Though I think my decision to go with a saltwater ready reel has manifested. Any thoughts on these here? * Abu Garcia Orra Inshore Spinning Reel 30 * Abu Garcia REVO Inshore Spinning Reel 30 * Quantum Smoke Inshore PT Spinning Reel 30X * Shimano Stradic Spinning Reels FK ST1000HGFK
  23. So, I decided to make the combo saltwater proof as well (budget also drastically raised).. Here is what I am leaning towards: Rod: St. Croix Rods Legend Xtreme Inshore XIS70MLF Reel: One of those: * Abu Garcia Orra Inshore Spinning Reel 30 * Abu Garcia REVO Inshore Spinning Reel 30 * Quantum Smoke Inshore PT Spinning Reel 30X * Shimano Stradic Spinning Reels FK ST1000HGFK What ya thinking about this?
  24. I have been keeping an eye open there (no luck so far). No luck on auction sites either. They seem to sell for full price there as well.
  25. Thanks for the detailed response! I think I am leaning towards the high end rod and mid-level reel. The GLX and the Legend Extreme seem to be good candidates paired with a Pflueger XT PRESXTSP20X, put 15pound braid on it (with 7pound fluro leader) and call it a day. Any thoughts on GLX vs Legend Extreme? Also is there a cheaper way to get one of those than forking out 400 bucks on TW? Thanks!
