Side imaging on pedal kayak
Just noticed that the lowrance transducer is 12 inches long. Might be a deal breaker.

Side imaging on pedal kayak
Nice setup! That's what I'm envisioning. Are your ducer arm and display mount two different pieces of hardware? Yakattack arm maybe? I dig the helix units for sure just seemed a bit outta my budget. Is the 5 inch screen adequate or should I go 7?

Side imaging on pedal kayak
Thanks that's what I was afraid of. Bow mount is obviously my preferred method but having it over the side makes it easier to remove weeds or pull up in shallow water.

Side imaging on pedal kayak
Hello. I've just ordered a Pescador Pilot and want to install a side imaging fish finder. I know the transducer has to have a clear view to allow the imaging to work and therefore can't be mounted thru hull or in scupper. I plan to use a deployment arm to mount the ducer possibly on the bow or possibly over the side. My question is this.... If I mount over the side and therefore more or less next to the propeller does the transducer need to be lower than the lowest part of the propeller to avoid interference? Or can I just mount lower than the lowest part of the hull? Will the prop wash be seen on the graph in side imaging mode? Next question maybe you folks can advise me on...I'd like to get a 7 inch screen and don't much care about mapping as I mostly fish lakes under 100 acres thus the units I am considering are the Lowrance hook2 7X and the Garmin striker 7sv. Anybody run these on a yak or have any input otherwise? Kinda leaning towards the Lowrance because it's 400 bucks and from what I understand Garmin may or may not use "true" down imaging. Thanks for the time. Matt

Spinnerbait/chatterbait setup line?
My current chatter bait setup is a Skeet Reese spinner bait rod. This rod has a moderate fast taper. I run 40 lb braid because this rod is already pretty noodley at the tip.

Best Skipping Bait
Zoom super fluke is an easy bait to skip. Rigged weightless Texas style works well for this method. Practice and impress your friends.

Frogging in water chestnut
Fishing horny toads over thick weed mats is one of my favorite ways to catch bass. If they want it they'll get it. I have had more than one occasion where the "bass" that repeatedly slap at the bait but never quite eat it turn out to be gar. You might be encountering this.

My spinning reel had issues
Check that you are not overfilling the spool on your reel. If you fill it too full the line will come off in bunches and definitely effect casting. Don't fill all the way to the edge of the spool. Leave some space. Better to slightly under fill than over fill.

(Un)official Hoosiers Thread
Fished hurshtown for little over an hour this morning. Caught three nice smallies. Two on a black grub and eighth ounce jig. Third was on a wacky rigged zoom centipede. First time fishing it from a kayak. The wind picked up which made for an interesting paddle back. Overall nice place will definitely be back

(Un)official Hoosiers Thread
Hello. Anyone ever fish Hurshtown reservoir northeast of Fort Wayne? Gonna put the kayak in tomorrow and just thought I'd try to solicit some advice. Only fished up there one time prior and we caught a couple walleyes trolling crank baits along the rip rap. Would like to get a smallie or two. Don't know much about the place other than its usually breezy and the water tends to be clear. Thanks

Fish Finder That Works On Batteries
I use a motorcycle/atv battery. Bought the battery at Napa auto parts. It fits nicely in an old plastic tool box which sits in a milk crate on rear cargo area. As an added bonus this set up becomes my ice fishing sonar later in the year. Can fish for many hours on a charge.

Straight Shank Worm Hook For Wacky?
I assume you are referring to senkos? That worm is nearly as fat as the gap on the hooks you are using. Go to a 5/0 ewg and see in your hook ups improve. Oftentimes a senko will get doubled up on a strike. Now it is twice as thick and will prevent a smaller hook from properly penetrating the fish's mouth.
