  1. These look good and more importantly...affordable! I don't care if they have fancy fishing logos splashed all over them, sure those look cool but these look like they'd do the job just as good!!! https://www.walmart.com/ip/Sport-Mens-Cool-DRI-Performance-Long-Sleeve-Tshirt-50-UPF/21014902?athcpid=21014902&athpgid=athenaItemPage&athcgid=null&athznid=PWVUB&athieid=v0&athstid=CS002&athguid=466001f5-d51bcc7c-b2e84b5f3b6a40ae&athena=true
  2. Sounds like for now I'll stick with the small glide baits etc. Maybe next year I'll get into the bigger swim baits like the Hudd.
  3. My rod is an iRod Fiber 7'5" H/F Fred's Magic Stick. Not sure if I'd dare throw the 12 ROF as that weighs 2.5oz...probably would stick with the 5 ROF as that weighs 2oz. and that's the max recommended lure weight for my rod.
  4. Okay, after a buddy's scare with skin cancer it got me to thinking...should i better protect myself, my wife and son when out fishing? I mean we're used to using plain old SPF 50 sunscreen and sunglasses but should I be investing in the sun shirts, masks and gloves or are those geared more towards guys who are spending an abundant amount of time (like 4 - 8 hours per day and multiple days per week) in the sun fishing whether on a boat or a bank? I'm the typical weekend warrior type who fishes maybe 2 or 3 evenings and 1 weekend day per week and never for more than 4 hours at a time...usually less when I have both my wife and son with me. What do you use?
  5. I'm contemplating getting one of these and just wanted to know from people who have them and fish them if they think they live up to the hype? I'm looking at the slow sink 6" version as that's coming in right at 2oz. which is at the top of my lure weight limit to throw. Do you run them on fluoro or braid? How is the durability? How much better are they then let's say a Savage Gear Line-through Trout?
  6. Okay, I'd like to get some swim jig heads for my 4.8" Keitech Fat Impacts and my 3.75" Rage Swimmers. I'm leaning towards the Dirty Jigs Matt Allen swim head but wondered which size would be best for each of these baits?
  7. It looks great! Those long appendages look to have an awesome amount of movement.
  8. I also have the new River2sea Lane Changer's dual prop baits that look awesome and I can't wait to get on the water and some of the new Booyah Toadrunner's too (I tried the Sprinker frogs and wasn't impressed, these Booyah's look to be built better).
  9. This is the New XL version and it floats!
  10. The Grassburner XL! I just ordered one and can't wait to try it out.
  11. https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-telescopic-lure-retriever This pole looks like it would work better than a line type lure retriever from the bank. Just not sure you could get high enough on the bank to make a line retriever work properly.
  12. Truer words haven't been spoken! I sometimes get caught up in trying to fish myself and trying to help my son and sometimes i lose my patience if he doesn't follow what I say. Of course I feel really bad after I snap at him and apologize and you are absolutely correct that I need to realize when I bring him my own fishing needs to take a back seat and i should focus on making it a fun outing for him so he grows to love it like I do. I know he idolizes me and wants to be just like me so I need to do better at realizing not to take these fishing excursions with him too seriously .
  13. I called Academy about this and complained! Same thing happened to me, the 20% off was still going on Friday but when I placed my order on Sunday it was down to 10% and then like Monday or Tuesday it was back up to 20%. I called and said i felt I got screwed here and they issued me a coupon code for 20% off plus another 10% for a total of 30% off my next order. Try doing that.
  14. I throw my 90's on 30lb. Power Pro braid. That's on the following spinning setups...7ft. M/F, 7ft. MH/F and a 7'4" MH/M (crankin' rod). I throw my 110's (and 130's) on casting gear...7'5" H/F with 50lb. Sunline FX/2 braid. As for the line size, I personally wouldn't go below 30lb. or above 50lb. braid. Mono or copoly could be different.
  15. I'm not adverse to teaching him to use a spinning reel...just want to keep his confidence level high and frustration level low so I can continue to nurture his interest in fishing!
  16. I know I'll probably get bashed here but I just got a Kastking Whitemax for crankbaits, 5.4:1 ratio, 24" IPT. It comes in a lefty which i got and is one sweet looking reel. It only cost $36 shipped to your door. I just barely got it for my birthday so i haven't had a chance to try it out but I can't wait!
  17. I just read that Kevin Van Dam uses a 5.4:1 gear ratio reel for ALL his crankbaits...shallow, medium and deep divers. He believes it gives you the best sensitivity to tell what the crankbait is doing. If it's good enough for KVD, it's good enough for me .
  18. I'm looking for an inexpensive spincast reel for my son. He's 7 and just getting into fishing, last year was his first. I want something with a better drag system in it so he can catch bass too. Right now he has a Zebco 33 Micro and just using it myself i can tell if he got a big bass it'd run him out of line and strip the gears in that thing.
  19. I get it...sort of like Chevy and GMC trucks are the same models just with different colors/trim packages and grill emblem but both are made by the same company.
  20. I just wondered what you thought of vendor exclusive reels that some of the big reel manufacturer's make? For example Lews makes the Carbonfire exclusively for DSG and makes the Tournament Laser Classic for Academy. To me they seem like decent reels but it also seems like their mainstream models are probably a better quality.
  21. The monkey bit me on the Academy whopper plopper deal. I just wish he had bitten me on Friday or Saturday when it was still 20% off instead of the 10% I got ordering yesterday but anyway, Phantom Shad 110, Yellowhead 90, Bone 90 and Sooner 90 will be headed my way soon :).
  22. Here's my latest Wal-Mart score...
  23. I'm assuming you're saying shoot the level wind up with some clp but not sure what that is?
  24. Okay, last year was a busy year and we didn't get out fishing nearly as much as we'd like to have...I'm talking maybe 12 - 15 times with the longest duration maybe 2-3 hours (no 5-8 hour days) and not a lot of fish to show for it. My question is this, would you bother having your reels cleaned after that amount of use? I'm thinking about sending them in to have them cleaned by Daiwa, Shimano and Lews but if the consensus is they didn't get enough use last year to make it worth my while to have them cleaned I may just save my money and put it towards something else.
  25. Replacing it with a Teckel tail would render one of it's main differences useless as Booyah is very proud of their adjustable tail.
