Best Skipping Rod for $100
What's the best band for your buck skipping rod in the $100 price range? I'm thinking shorter like anywhere from 6'7" to 7' and a MH or HVY. I have two reels I could use for a skipping setup, a Daiwa Tatula SV 103 and a Shimano Curado DC. The rod I have right now is a 7' Daiwa Tatula XT M/F...I'm just thinking for heavier stuff like jigs, plastic swim baits and chatterbaits that I'd want something more stout than the M/F.

Strike King Chick Magnet
Is the Green Gizzard Shad really more of a ghost type coloration? Online it looks mostly translucent.

Strike King Chick Magnet
Wow, those don't look anything like the picture do they! They are actually closer in size/shape to a Spro Little John aren't they.

Strike King Chick Magnet
Must be the online pictures…when i saw a picture the shape made me think OG Slim until i read it was the Chick Magnet ?.

Their reels are actually a lot better than people give them credit for…especially their spinning reels, hard to get better bang for the buck! Their fishing tools are great, their rod sleeves, holders and nets are too.

Strike King Chick Magnet
Looking at the Strike King Chick Magnet crank bait it looks identical to the Rapala OG Slim…what exactly is the difference (besides colors)?

Clear Coating Baits
A long time ago I was turned on to the idea of buying a bottle of Sally Hanson's Hard As Nails fingernail clear coat and using it to paint over the eye in particular of any bait that might have 3D eyes prone to falling off from fish strikes. People swore that this would keep those eyes from falling off. My question is this, has anyone ever used it (or another similar use product) on the entire body of a bait before to help protect some of the paint jobs with durability issues? How did it work?

Yup or even glide baits/swimbaits.

Good Deal on Plano Boxes
I found a good deal on some 12x12 deep Plano boxes at Costco this weekend. They don't have dividers in them so are big open boxes, a 5-pk. for $19.99.

Snackle Box
Saw this on Facebook and even though it was meant as a joke...it actually looks like a pretty dang good idea for when you're out on the boat and just need something to snack on .

Shoulder Surgery
The main reason for putting it off now is I have no sick time left and don't want to go off payroll. In 6 months I should have a couple weeks of sick time built up.

Shoulder Surgery
So, my left shoulder has been hurting for quite a while. Getting in to see the orthopedic doctor wasn't easy but I did it. She did her little in office tests of strength and determined that if I could push her little hands down or stop her from pushing mine down that it definitely wasn't my rotator cuff as I'd be in too much pain to do that. I asked for an MRI just to find out what was wrong and they finally 3 months later got me in for one. Low and behold the doctor was wrong...I DO have a torn rotator cuff. In fact I have two tears, my supernatus tendon has a full tear and my inspiranatus tendon has a partial tear (I'm sure I spelled those wrong...lol). It is my left shoulder which is my non-casting arm but it hurt a little just to reel too (I'm right handed but use a left handed casting reel, rod in right hand and reel with left). So after getting my results yesterday the doctor said that surgery is really the best option for a full tear and she said I won't lie, recovery from a rotator cuff surgery is long a painful and typically takes about 6 weeks. Well, due to Covid and having a couple of kids my sick time is almost at zero and if I take time off now I go off payroll and won't get paid so that's not happening. I said my job involves a lot of desk work and typing on a computer which I could do 1 handed since it's not my dominant arm that's injured and she said sure, as long as I felt up to that she thought I could return to work in 2 weeks...again, not happening. So the route she suggested was to get a cortisone injection now for the immediate pain and put surgery off for 6 months but looking at the calendar that's right when bass season starts again next May. Would you get the surgery at the beginning of the season and miss the first 4 - 6 weeks or would you put it off until the Fall and fish the summer (if the pain is tolerable)?

The latest sale thread
I purchased one recently too in the 6.8:1 gear ratio left handed. It's a nice looking reel and matches perfectly to the Berkley Lightning Rod Shock it's going on. I know right but you can trust this one as I have recently purchased from them and the reel is indeed a left handed reel.

Crankbaits what do you carry?
I have many different crankbaits from shallow divers 0-1ft., regular shallow 3-5ft., medium depth9-12ft. and deep divers 20ft. I have everything from Spro, 6th Sense, Berkley and Booyah to Bill Lewis, Googan and Lucky Craft. I have 2 rods for my crankbait needs, 1 is a 7ft. Medium/Moderate rod for shallow to mid range and 1 is a 7'6" Medium Heavy/Moderate for my deep divers. Like an above member said, I do a majority of my crankbait fishing with my 7ft. rod and only use the 7'6" for situational fishing as I rarely fish deep with crankbaits...just more or less wanted to have a setup available for when I need it.

Topwater On Spinning Reels
I agree with another post, from the looks of your reel you have it spooled with too much line. You want it 1/8" below the bevel line on your spool.

StrikeKing zero/z-too
The Zero's are made of Elaztech similar to Z-man so they will last about 50 fish before needing to be replaced. The Shim-e-stick is a regular stick bait and won't last nearly as long.

Big bait mindset, Trip #1
Lite Trout is far and away the best S-Waver color. Don't know what it is about that color but for some reason the bass hammer it!

Dick’s sporting goods, Keitech, and Googan
Honestly, it doesn't matter much to me who owns who...it's all about the baits. China makes about 90% of the lures out there anyway so it doesn't really matter. I look for quality, durability and good action...if a bait has all of those characteristics I don't really care who's name is on the packaging (yup, I do own some Googan baits, crankbaits and soft plastics...they seem to work well so I'm okay with them being made by Googan).
-
Dick’s sporting goods, Keitech, and Googan
I have nothing against Googan baits but it is a shame to see Dick's dedicate so much floor space towards one brand. I mean Z-man and Gary Yamamoto share half an aisle, same as Zoom and Strike King etc. while Googan gets a whole aisle and a couple of end caps...does seem to be a bit excessive.

Hollow Belly Frog in the Fall?
Frogs work in open water too...don't give up on them yet! Certain frogs work better than others in open water (for instance the new Scum Launch Frog works better in open water then in pads etc.) though.

Topwater Frogs
Black, Bone(White), Chartreuse. Those 3 colors are all you will need. My personal rankings would be #1-chartreuse, #2-white and #3-black. Remember, the bass actually only sees the bottom of the frog so the bottom color is what catches the bass, the top color catches the fisherman . Also, black and yellow bottom would be good...in fact I just ordered one in that color. Black with blue is a good bottom color too.
