I appreciate your humor but I'm just stating the specifications of this rod and looking for people who actually have it to verify if it's a good rod and how accurate the ratings are. Easy to be an armchair quarterback but if you don't actually own/fish with a rod kinda' hard to legitimately give an accurate review IMO.

This rod really has my attention. Seems reasonably priced at $130 but what really caught my eye is that it's rated for lures 1/4oz. - 1-1/2oz. This is a very broad range and if true could help me consolidate my rods to the point where I could sell my 7'6" MH and 7' M cranking setups and just go with this one cranking rod that could handle both small crankbaits and deep divers. Would love to hear from people who have this specific rod and how they like it? Are the lure ratings accurate?

Get yourself an Evergreen Shower Blows 77.7 and you have one of the best walking baits made as well as a very good popper...

I believe you can texas rig the Gilly too...doesn't have to be hook on the side.

I have one of the smaller ones but haven't used it yet. I believe the small one is like 1oz. right? If so I would throw that on a Heavy rod with Moderate Fast/Fast action since it's a treble hooked bait...something with a little parabolic bend so the fish stays pinned and doesn't shake free. As for line I would think a 10 - 12lb. mono or 20 - 30lb. braid would be sufficient.

That's an avenue I've pondered as well. I would definitely like to sell off at least a couple setups so I can get 1 really nice setup (to me at least), a Shimano 2020 JDM Metanium (which can be found from a Japanese site for $246 shipped) and pair it with a G. Loomis GCX 7' MH/F MBR rod.

Good read! I definitely need a Heavy casting setup for frog fishing though as that's one of my passions ...maybe this setup could be used for multiple other techniques?

Okay, so you won't win anything for doing this but it could be fun and give other people ideas if enough people respond to this. What I was thinking is this, if you were forced to pare down your rod/reel setups to just 3 casting and 3 spinning what would they be and why? My wife is constantly nagging about how many setups I have and do I really need all of them (I could start WW3 by trying to flip it around and ask her if she really needs all of her shoes or watches or whatever but I value my time on this Earth and would like it to continue...lol) and this has got me to thinking...if I had to sell off some setups and whittle it down to just 3 of each style what would I pick. Obviously some setups would be crossing over techniques and pulling double or sometimes triple duty so they would have to be versatile. Maybe seeing some of your answers will help me if I decide the wife is right and sell of some of mine...which would I keep and which could I part ways with. This should can be a fun topic...let's get it started!!!

How do you like that setup?

I'm curious about these. I've been looking for a smaller swim jig that will offer a more compact presentation as well as be able to swim 6 - 12" below the surface of the water and just above submergent grass...looking at the 3/16oz. version or a 1/4oz. Dirty Jigs Finesse Jig but haven't really used a bait caster to cast something this small/light. Any experiences with either bait and tips for how to cast something this light with a casting reel would be appreciated!

That would be perfect conditions for a chatterbait! Get a few of these Jackhammers (yes, they really ARE that much better than others) in Green Pumpkin Shad with a Green Pumpkin variation trailer like a Hog Farmer Spunk Shad or a Big Bite Baits Swimon in around a 4" - 5" size and you're set .

I've heard fantastic reviews about this new stuff from American Baitworks called Baitfuel. They say it's odorless to humans so doesn't stink enough to make you gag like some of the others and they claim it's the first bait scent that was actually scientifically created/studied in a laboratory where the chronicled the fishes reactions to it. I think I might check that out myself.

Like I mentioned above, I already have a Tatula SV and a Curado DC...the right rod is the only thing I'm looking for now.

i want something can handle anything from a senko to a jig to a chatter bait to a plastic swim bait.

Okay, so I've done a lot of reading up on this technique and watching YouTube videos on it and it seems like it's split, some guys say you want a 7' - 7'4" rod while others say you want a 6'8" - 7' rod and then when we get into actions some say you want a moderate/fast tip to help with roll casts and making sure the bass swallows the bait while others say you want a fast tip. About the only thing everyone seems to agree on is you want a medium-heavy or heavy powered rod. I don't want to spend a lot on a new rod but I would really like to learn this technique on the water this year. I will either be putting a Shimano Curado DC or a Daiwa Tatula SV 103 on whatever rod I get as I already have both reels. Looking for something close to $100 (or less obviously ). I've been looking at the Dobyns Maverick 704C as well as the Abu Garcia Jordan Lee 6'10" Dock Skipping rod, Daiwa Aird-X 7' H/F and even the Okuma Epixor 7' MH/MF just to give you an idea of what types of rods I've found so far but if there are others that would be better suited for this technique and my budget I'm all ears .

I know these are brand new to the market but just wondering if anybody has been able to test them out on the water yet? How do they compare to the Fury series? I expect typical great Dobyns quality but do they meet those expectations?

Well, during his interview at iCast when he introduced his new rod line he did say he wanted to bring more technique-specific rods at an affordable price to the market.

I've been eyeing this one. Just wanted to make sure with a Heavy rod that it has a soft enough tip so it's not going to rip the hook out of the fishes mouth. Being a Jordan Lee designed rod I'm guessing that he would have it made that way since he's a pro and knows what kind of rod is necessary for skipping.

If you're looking for strictly a light finesse reel I'd look into the new BFS reels.
