  1. Hello. I am in love with my new Daiwa Tatula and three Zillions. The last Zillion that I bought seems to have a problem...or I am just expecting too much. It is a 7.3:1 ratio and when I try to set the brakes for a particular bait I am unable to get satisfactory results. The crawdad in the picture below weighs 11 grams. No matter how high I set the cetrifugal brake (magnetic ) it will birdnest in mid cast. Even at the highest setting. The only remedy is to set the spool tension so high that the bait won't move at all when the spool is released. That impedes my casting significantly. When I set it to cast the lead weight in the picture below, it weighs 14 grams, I have no problem whatsoever. Is this a limitation of my reel? My bass pro qualifiers can be adjusted to throw this craw. It's not that I don't know how to set up a reel, I do. Is there a defect with this particular reel or is this a limitation?
  2. I've been catching bass on a rattletrap on my powerplant lake. What other baits are good for this time of year?
  3. I like tec spec arsenal by field and stream (i think it's a Shakespeare ) I like the Academy H20 express that I have I also like Berkley's line of various cheap rods for the money I like my pflueger spinning rod I am disappointed with my bps carbonlite rods for more than one reason but the line selector on the end of the handle pops off way too easy and then your handle sucks on your $100+ rod- that reason alone i won't buy another.
  4. I got a tec spec arsenal for $59 marked down from $130 on black Friday. ..it is a great rod so far. Very small and light. I love the feel and balance.
  5. Thanks for the replies. I put my endura max 45 variable thrust on with a mkp prop and I barely gained .5 mph. I'm at about 4ish mph now. I'm gonna put the stock prop back on and see how well it does . The mkp6 is a "power " prop...even though they don't list pitch on any of these to know what is power vs speed. The variable is awesome. The 45 is actually quieter than my 30.
  6. Well I ended up getting an Endura max 45 with the variable control and a prop upgrade to MKP37. I didn't like the larger and heavier motor body on the 50 and 55 models.
  7. In fact two 55 pound thrust motors will not move you any faster than one 30 pound thrust motor. Higher thrust 12V trolling motors are designed for bigger heavier boats with larger payloads. The maximum speed of a trolling motor is 5 mph regardless of how many pounds of thrust. -what i found on the webs.
  8. Thanks fishes in trees. I was thinking of going with the 40lb with the variable motor. I will consider 55lb though. I've read that the thrust doesn't really equate to a faster overall speed though, so naturally I was thinking prop pitch instead.
  9. Hello. My el cheapo c2 has a stock 2 blade that has a touch too much "get up and go" but not enough hi speed cruising. I have a 3.6mph top speed now that I'd like to increase a little while decreasing the initial "jerk" when applying power. I know about props and pitch, there just seems to be little info given on these parameters when shopping. They all wanna talk about "weedless" and "more speed and power". I want a faster top speed and less acceleration. I'm on a 100lb vessel and I'd like to go a little faster. Thanks.
  10. Daiwa Zillion are far and away my favorite now. It's all about the t wing for me though. Ymmv.
  11. Wal marts carry 12 and 6 volt batteries of the 2-9aH variety. I have 3.
  12. It seemed like most of the time they were within a few feet of a tree trunk but not heavy cover. Kvd says that it sometimes means you need to speed up cause they're getting too good a look at the bait. I never really burned it in fast fast, but fairly fast and slow or medium was all the same. Short strike.
  13. So, I fished for about 5 or 6 hours today. I caught one stinking fish. On a rattle trap. I threw a toad for a bit and several different buzzbaits. On particular buzzbait, I must've gotten a dozen short strikes throughout the day. It didn't seem to matter how fast I retrieved it, they weren't actually biting it. I run trailer hooks too. I even saw a fish strike it, I slowed the bait to nearly still, and then started retrieval again, and I saw the fish dart towards the bait again to strike and then he saw me and pulled away. What should I have been doing? What should I have changed? I've never fished a day in my life like this. They were just "pushing" my bait.
  14. Is there a good possibility or even an almost guarantee that if I flip enough of these I'll catch a bass? Or are the bass not in or around trees sometimes. I mean, they look so perfect for bass, but I don't have much experience flipping. There are literally hundreds of these in a nearby creek.
  15. My bass went from small to 2 and 3 lb bass when I stopped fishing worms and started fishing buzzbaits spinner baits and frogs.
  16. How often do you find yourself casting and casting (of course each cast has a purpose) and your attention is elsewhere and then a fish takes your bait out of nowhere and you are immediately brought into the moment? It happens quite frequently for me because I can fish for hours without so much as a stirring of the waters and then BAM! I got a fish on the line. Exciting. I know, I know, some of you don't fish more than 5 minutes before you pull a 5lb'er out of the water, but for the rest of us, how often does that happen?
  17. ^^this. I use them for everything. I mod all my wire baits for them with heat shrink tubing. They impede the action of nothing that I've seen so far. They do however, make all things dealing with lures and knots and line twist, much easier to deal with, and much faster.
  18. Soaking and stretching doesn't work on the big worms anyway. A week of soaking a stretched worm only produced a bubble covered worm for me.
  19. I've had zman worms that said "floating " on the pack and don't float. I hate the material that they are made of. Bass pro makes a floating worm that floats and the material is much better too.
  20. The kvd 50 lb test swivel snaps and swivels. 30 per pack. They work well. Wal mart has them.
  21. I was told bass can see 6 times better than us in water ...so wouldn't that mean if the lure was just out of our sight, they could still easily see us?
  22. At the end of the - First Year 4" Second Year 7 1/2" Third Year 9" Fourth Year 11" Fifth Year 13" Sixth Year 15" Seventh Year 17" Eighth Year 19" Ninth Year 21" Tenth Year 23" Eleventh Year 25" Regional data of course.
  23. I recall a table for general growth of females in a particular region in this site as well: http://www.umpquavalleybassmasters.com/bassbook.htm
  24. You can count age by counting rings on their scales just like a tree.
