Buckeye Bassin Community
I think the bass in my area have already spawned because I haven't seen any activity. At one of my local ponds, the bluegill are already spawning, which is really weird. I didn't think it'd be this early given the cold weather.

Buckeye Bassin Community
I saw that those darn Hoosiers have their own community here, and I think Maryland has one too. But Ohio, the state that I think has the most dedicated angling community, doesn't have one yet! That's a shame, so I thought I would like to start one! I have been fishing Eastwood lake once or twice with very little luck. However, I've been stuck on the bank and I have seen a few people catch fish out of a boat while I've been out. All I threw was a dropshot because that's all I had.

Hair jig storage
The smaller, marabou hair jigs are intended for Smallmouth and Spots, (but I've always used them for Largemouth in winter and sometimes even specific spawning situations) while the bigger ones that are usually more than 1/2 ounce are intended for Largemouth in the summertime. I hope this helps.

Looking for a new crankbait
I like the Ima Pinjacks, Berkley digger, Berkley wild thang, spro little john medium diver, spro rock crawler and a few others. I feel like balsa isn't very durable, so the Rapala DT series is a no go, at least for me. With that being said, the jerk baits by rapala are great because they aren't balsa. Now, the Imas are great because they are plastic, and are very versatile, they seemingly always produce fish. The Wild Thang is, as the name implies, very erratic in the water. I haven't had enough experience with the digger to write a report on it, but it's a solid lure. The Little John is pretty similar to the Ima Pinjack, so try both and see which one you prefer, I usually prefer either, but it depends on the situation. The rock crawler is a great crawfish bait, but it also is ok for shad. I like most 6th sense lures, I just haven't gotten around to trying the 250. Oh, and Norman low key makes some great baits, as long as you switch hooks to a gamakatsu, trokar, or VMC. My favorite hook is VMC because they're similar to the gammies, but they are way cheaper. I think trokars are ok, too, same with Mustad. Tight lines, Justis

New fishing LURE invention
Sounds interesting. I'd love to be one of the field testers, however I don't want to force myself.

How to fish rock piles?
The depth will vary. Usually, they are any where from 15-30 feet, at least that's where I'm seeing the life. I think the rock piles are below average in size, but I don't know. Yeah, maybe. I'm using a 3/8 ounce usually in the T-Rig, while using the 1/2 ounce in the Jigs. I think that 7/16 might be the best size for both, but I'm not sure. The lake I'm fishing gets a lot of pressure, so I think I would be wasting my time fishing a crankbait. However, I haven't really tried a crankbait, so I might give it a fair shake.

How to fish rock piles?
So, one of the lakes near me is a clear water lake, has a little bit of submerged grass that usually doesn't produce fish, and has rock piles. That's where I'm seeing bait and possibly bass on my fishfinder. The problem is, I don't know how to fish rocks. I know to throw a football jig, and the sticks tell me to fish a Texas rig, but I can never get bit. It's really weird. Thank you in advance. -Justis

Where does everybody buy their tying materials?
My local store caters to lure makers, If I were you, I would go to a few and look for some tying supplies.

Jig Fishing Questions
My favorite all purpose jig would be an Arkie head jig. Try a Santone lures rattlin jig because they are great all purpose jigs. Don't be afraid to remove the rattle if you're not getting bit, just stick it in your pocket so you'll have it later. I'm not affiliated and you can try other jigs such as a dirty jigs Luke Clausen Casting jig or even a *** would be great... I just like the versatility of a rattling jig by Santone lures. Tight Lines! -Justis

Midwest Camping and Fishing
Sorry, I've been off the forum. I have caught fish flipping the laydowns and sparse vegetation in the summer (I was only there one day). There were a few boats out, nothing big, there is a 10 hp limit. I might also flip laydowns in the prespawn in certain situations such as heavy rain. I've seen people in kayaks and I fished from a canoe.

Rod/Reel for shallow Cranking
I personally like a 5.4:1 gear ratio for crankbaits only. I personally like a daiwa tatula (fairly cheap at $150 and up) for cranking because you can get a longer cast with the t wing system. Just my 2 cents.

Midwest Camping and Fishing
In my opinion, acton is the best lake in ohio for largemouth (the best smallmouth lake being Erie of course). I don't know when exactly your fishing but, assuming it is the pre spawn, toss a red colored square bill crank bait against wood in the backs of creeks. Also pick up some Spro Rock Crawler designed by Mike McClelland. I'm not affiliated with them at all, however I just can't think of a better crank bait for imitating crawfish. You'd want to throw the Rock Crawler in the deeper water cause it dives to about 12 feet. Any ways, I've never gotten the chance to fish Acton in pre spawn so these are just a few generic tips.

New To The Forum, Decent At Bass Fishing
Hey everybody! I'm an angler who is only 13, but I generally am pretty good in almost any situation I can think of. I'm starting to get into kayak/ canoe tournaments (I don't have a boat). I live in Southwest Ohio. Some of my favorite lures (confidence baits) are the ned rig, speed worm, Rapala DT series, Livingston lures square bill, *** jigs and anything from gambler or zoom. My question to you is: If you could only have 3 lures to go fishing, not knowing what season, what would they be?
