I know the fishing  lures business is very hard to get in to. I know you have heard it before that Someone has a good LURE. Make no mistake guy I do. And it's nothing like it on the market. I been working on these type 3 yrs. I have come down to the last proto type. I have 40 working models. I did not won't to start a business. But can't find anyone that will look at them. All I won't are the normal royalties  now I even come up with the next generation of them. Iam getting some 3D scanned so I can get get on chromed. I need your information and what would be the next step. Trying to get funding for a patent. I down a patent search and was advised to get a design patent. Your thoughts.

Get the patent on your lure invention before you post the lure online.

Good advice! I had a book published a couple of years ago but I had to do it by a self publishing company because in the book industry, you can have the best book in the world but it's a tight knit industry and you had to know somebody big on the inside. I know a well established author and he had a friend with a good book and couldn't get a publisher to look at it. Don't give up though. I hope it works out for you!

I'd call zman and find out what law company they used to help enforce their chatterbait patent and hire said company to file for the patent and protect it. Otherwise within a month,  luck-e-strike,  castaic, strike king, Berkeley,  and a slew of other companies will be making copies "tuned and designed" by the pros and luck-e-strike will file a patent blocking you from making your own bait like they did with the scrounger. 

Seriously though good luck,  and whatever you do, no late night infomercial because no serious fisherman will buy it after the banjo minnow,  helicopter lure,  or mighty bite fishing system. Although I own all 3 kits so I guess maybe a few suckers will truly buy anything

I'm brand spanking new here and was just looking around when I stumbled in here. I know your pain and frustration . . .  no money and needing serious protection. I asked myself what I would do and I think the first thing I would do where you're at right now, would be to find a patent lawyer and document every possible thing you can. It all starts there, finding money is hard but can be had you just gotta be very careful and like I said CYA with a lawyer. Even big companies get careful when they see lawyers are involved, so that needs to be your first move. Good luck I seriously would love to see you pull it off.

I'm also not asking for some to look at a product I came up with either...oh and the grammar on my post isn't wrong but it could be better.  As far as capitalization goes, I was lazy typing the letter "I".

Whopper Plopper isn't a new lure. It was originally designed as a musky lure and downsized for the bass market, and Larry Dahlberg has a bit more credibility in the fishing word than the OP

Poe's Top Raider has been around much longer than the Whopper Plopper and I'm sure there are others before my time.  I even recall a show segment with LD dropping Poe's name. There isn't really anything "new" hitting the markets anymore.  It's a modification or tweak to something that has already been done.  That's why I don't understand when people get their panties in a wad over a newly released lure that are strikingly similar to another.  It's been happening for decades, it will continue to happen for ever.  

Now let's see this "new" invention...

Why so much negativity..? there's innovations to come that everyone but the inventor wouldn't consider or comprehend till they see it. Give the advice he's seeking if you have it and say good luck to the guy. OP: Goodluck!

Many years ago I designed these single treble blade baits with spin tails. These are prototypes made from 3/8" metal tubing. They work extremely well on a large variety of fish. For a hot minute I was thinking about getting a patent until I saw something very similar being made. I'm always thinking and trying to design a new bait or action that the fish haven't seen. It's healthy for the brain if nothing else.

@Baitmaker looks like the La Bamba I picked up this season. Catches bass, walleye, tiger muskie... I must say I like body shape of your design better than what I bought. You should have pursued it, if you had some sort of proof or documents showing you were first you may have had a shot! but honestly I know nothing of patents and law and business sooo...
