  1. I fish out of a Hobie Outback and love it. I also have a bay boat. I fish more out of my kayak. Only reason I have my boat is to take family and friends. A yak has taught me to throughly fish an area. If I find a good spot I will stay and fish 5 different baits in different depths. The next spot could be miles. It's relaxing and sneaking up on fish is pure fun. I actually used my saltwater experience catching a bass one time. Busting bait shallow, I peddled up and sight casted my jig and stuck him. Nothing big- maybe 3lbs but the prettiest bass I have caught. Real nice green and fat white belly.
  2. Whatever you do, get the most horsepower you can. Lots of people will sale a boat underpowered to get you in the payments you want. An underpowered boat makes for an unpleasant experience. A good dealer should take you through the boat and explain what does what. Learn about the most common problems and how to fish them on the water. 2 stroke motors have their place but 4 stroke are more user friendly and typically more reliable. If you never drove a boat before or backed up a trailer find someone who has and have them help you. Maybe even hire a guide to go on your boat. Teach you the basics. Boating safety, backing up a trailer, and reading a fish finder to name a few.
  3. I have a lure retriever. I haven't lost a bait since I got it. Haven't needed to use it either. I like the option pulling without worrying about the line snapping. Have you have any trouble landing bigger bass in the timber with line smaller than 12lbs. I also actually need to change it. I'm almost to the spoil when I cast. I don't have a lot of experience bass fishing as much as I do for redfish so light line has me hesitant.
  4. Ok I fish south Texas- Falcon lake. Lots of timber and rock. I have had most success on a 5xd. I have been using sunline sniper 12lbs. I like it but I bought a spool of 15lbs at a 1000yds invisx from TW sale. I am tempted to try it, but don't want to waste it. I have other rods I'm gonna use it on. I am torn on line size. I want to try and crank deeper but I don't want to go too light. I was losing enough lures as it was with 12lbs from trees. From those of you who have more experience what would you do? Is the depth difference between 12 and 15lbs test that much? I fish out of a kayak if that has any bearing on your advice. I also plan to throw 8xd and similar eventually. Target 20-25 fow. Thanks
  5. I have been wanting to order chatterbaits. Are the Siebert chatter style pretty good? Then I gotta turn around and order their jigs at minimum. (But which ones lol)
  6. As far as strike king goes, I wouldn't venture away too much from the xd models. Like 5xd or 6xd in your case. I have other sk models that look similar but there hooks are less than desirable. The barb on the hook that stuck my finger was crazy. I couldn't pull that sucker out. I did everything possible but a trip to the dr. Was what got it out. Unfortunately they really impressed me lol
  7. There is a sticky about crankbaits. Read that when you can. What do you consider deep? Lots of crank specific rods out there so take your pick on a brand you trust. I fish 10-15ft a lot and like the 5xd in a blue back chartreuse body. Hooks are plenty sharp.
  8. Talk about how bass fishing has grown, the high school teams and college teams for bass fishing. Time in general while fishing for bass and making memories. How easy it is to target other species to get younger kids into fishing. Like panfish and channel cat fishing. How as kids grow there skills and love of the outdoors do also. Gives them goals to focus on and healthy activity to do with other friends. Plus the smack talking that comes with a good day on the water.
  9. I fish out of a kayak I have 3 gallon zip bags. One terminal, 1 creature baits, and 1 senko/sassy stick. 3 Plano 3600 hard baits. Plus stuff stuffed in other crevices throughout my yak.
  10. I lost an easy $50 in crankbaits before I bought one. Funny thing is I haven't needed it since I got it.
  11. Football jigs are more for dragging on rocks I believe. A swim jig is basically a spinner bait without the blades. Someone recently posted something about jigs for newcomers which was excellent as well as the sticky on this forum.
  12. My favorite day was the Dobyns sale. So good I got a shaky rod and a flipping rod. Gotta sale my old stuff now.
  13. I would throw whatever I had available till I caught it lol. Probably shaky/senko, wacky/senko, jig and craw, I would imagine it a shallow fish on a bed if I could see it. Would want something not to big to spook it at first and work my way up. If it is on a bed throw at it for a few minutes mark the spot and move off and come back later
  14. Would y'all please go and buy all the other Dobyns rods on sale at TW. I grabbed another with mega strike shaky heads and sunline flipping braid for another Dobyns flipping rod I got 2 days ago. Dobyns warranty seems to good to be true.

What is your rod and reel setup as well
  16. Buddy of mine is going. I want to but I got a baby due that time. I will try 2017 for sure. Hopefully by then I will be a more versatile fisherman. Right now I'm a shaky head/senko and jig kind of guy.
  17. Took advantage of TW rod sale. Dobyns 7'6 flipping stick. Flipping weights, chigger craw, Jj, mega strike, other odds and ends. Pumped about the Dobyns. Almost half off
  18. What kind of knot are you using? If you're having trouble with all your rods it could be knot type or maybe where or how you store them? Is it the same brand of line?
  19. double tap. Above comment was for the question about purple and green bags
  20. Looks like caps for treble hooks so they won't snag on seats in your vehicle or boat or dog or your hand etc etc lol
  21. Got some goodies in. Never mind the mess.
  22. Shaky Head Senko. I'm getting more confident with other lures at the moment, but when I find a fishy spot or checking old spots, I start with a senko then other baits after I catch a couple.
  23. Bass was still attached to the hook and shaking around a lot. That hook wouldn't budge. I couldn't cut it fast enough but good advice. Not all situations can be handled the same. My finger shakes every time I grab my crankbait rod now lol.
  24. Hooked my finger. Pulled and pulled, couldn't get it out. Went to Dr. Removed it. What to do with said lure and not to have worry about it getting me again!!!! I'm so festive.
