  1. I think it would be cool to have a kayak tournament on the trinity in the fort Worth area. I've never fished or organized a tournament but I want to get into them. Any advice on doing this? Any one interested in this idea?
  2. has anyone had or used the pro cat round reel combo from acadmey? theyre really cheap, 60 bucks, and they sound good for that price but we all know you get what you pay for. it doesnt have a great line capacity, 130 yds of 20 pound mono, but ill be using 50 pound braid and 12 pound mono for backing. they also have pro cat braided line, 8 bucks a spool for 150 yds. i did the math and i can fill the spool with 44 yds of backing and stll have 150 yds of braid, which worls for me because 90% if the time im fishing close to cover and wenching flathead out from log jams. has a 20 pound max drag and baitclicker. sounds good to me, but if yall have anything negative to say id love to hear because i could save the money i would drop on a couple of these combos and buy something better.
  3. did more research, had to decide between abu ambassadeur 7000c vs abu ambassadeur c4 6600; 20 vs 15 pound drag, 515 vs 310 yds of 30 lb braid, a difference in weight of about 10 ounces, and 22 inches of line per turn vs 30. i think ill go with the c4 6600 because if im fishing for anything bigger than what that reel could handle, chances are itll be on a charter boat or something and itll be a once in a lifetime chance. 4. trying to figure out how to delete a post...feeling pretty dumb right now
  5. looking for multi purpose set up although mainly for big catfish i would also like to have the line capacity and max drag to fish off of the jetties and beaches without a boat. i want something (both spinning and baitcast) that can hold a good amount of 30 pound braid (300 yds at least) and around 20 pounds of drag. i was looking at some abu garcia ambassadeurs but im kind of dissapointed in their max drags (11 to 15 pounds?). dont get me wrong, thats all fine and dandy in open water but most of the time im pulling good size flatheads in and i want to get them up and out of cover as fast as possible so that 20 pound drag is pretty important. as far as spinning reels i think ill probably go with a penn fierce 5 or 6 size, although ive heard they have graphite rotors so im not sure how that would effect the life of the reel.
  6. i picked up a spool of the 65 pound high vis green pro cat braided line because it was cheap. looking at the stuff and feeling it, it feels like a total rip off. any other opinions?
  7. i fished with that higher end rod i mentioned. honselty, it was crap. i really like their base ethos and have no problem with them. but their ethos nanos feels like garbage once you start casting and reeling in. feels like line is wrapped around it even when its not.
  8. i got you man and no offense taken. thanks for explaining that. i had the same sort of thoughts myself after thinking for a few more days.
  9. picked up a h20 express ethos nanos the other week. Fished it for 12 hours and brought it back to the store to get my refund. in their 60 and 80 dollar rods, i feel like theyre the best "bang for your buck" but the only difference between those and their nanos imo if the guides and handle construction. the rod itself didnt feel any more sensative than the others they offer, and on top of that it felt like i had line wrapped around my rod every time i was reeling. maybe it was a dud, but i took it back and got my refund, then bought a duckett ghost. have any of yall experienced this too, or is it just me? personally i think the "wrapped around the tip feeling" was because of the microguides but im no expert. opinons/thoughts?
  10. i feel you man i did good on striper the other day swiming like a 3 inch paddle tail shad fairly fast but the next day didnt get even a hit. i blame el nino. fast weather changes. ive been able to pull out some dinks on a craw colored football jig but usually only one in 12 hours of fishing.
  11. im a bank fisherman as i dont own a boat and i know that limits my ability to get to where the fish are, but even in ponds, rivers, and channels that run by the bank, i cant seem to catch fish lately. i want to blame it on the warmer than normal weather affecting their normal patterns, but i need to learn how to catch fish when it gets hard none the less. ive used jigs, rattletraps, spinners, cranks, soft plastics, nothing is working. im also not seeing many fish by the bank, which leads me to believe that theyre in deeper water, but with as warm of a winter as weve had i feel like they would be shallow. most of the water i fish isnt more than 7 feet deep or so. im fishing in north texas around fort worth and granbury. any suggestions?
  12. all i can see are his picturs on instagram. from what i can tell he makes good stuff. im honestly most concerned about the quailty of the graphite. i dont know much about custom rods but that price seems low to me too. i have a notion that the guides and construction may be quailty, but the rod itself could be cheap graphite. i want something sensative enough that i can feel a minnow fart on my line.
  13. i have been planning on buying two h2o express nanos, academys highest end store brand rods. i know theyre not the best out there, but they suit me fine and the warranty they have is awesome (the rod breaks, you get a new one no questions asked). i have also been considering getting a custom built rod from a fairly new company called avcustomfishing. the guy seems like a down to earth dude and hes pretty nice, and says he can make me what i want, but im kinda iffy about dropping 120 on a rod that i wont even be able to try out before i buy, and if it breaks, im out 120 and am basically screwed until i can get a new one. on the other hand, the guy said he can make me exactly what i want, a 7 foot medium heavy extra fats 1/4-7/8. should i pay extra for what i really want and risk screwing myself out of money, or should i get something im alright with even if its not my dream rod and have a warranty to fall back on when it breaks?
