  1. i checked into it , but saw some comments on it about it flexing ... i have three presidents that were always reliable , but don't use as much as i used to. they still make it into the boat often i have the bb1 and the bb1 pro baitcasters....excellent reels
  2. wtfish gives high praise to the gold
  3. i'm looking to buy a new spinning reel, and have it narrowed down to lews team gold , lews pro speed spin , or abu garcia revo s (not sx).....i can get all three close enough in price , so that's not a factor ...team gold is lightest, which does matter - all boast great drags and smooth , strong , durable....now i need personal experience from those who know them well
  4. i'm gonna take a few cast from shore in clinton tomorrow....sounds like you got it covered for lures - you could possibly add a shakey head into the mix
  5. i meant to mention its actually labeled as a jig, t-rig, senko, and shakey head rod...it's really pretty versatile - i'm pretty impressed by all the praise going on for the fury also , as aprilbass101 just mentioned
  6. i got the spinning 693 m f ...plan on using it for jerbaits, light cranks, - maybe smaller topwaters and skipping weightless senkos
  7. i just got the dobyns savvy with the $25 coupon - American Legacy, as mentioned earlier...even with shipping it was cheapest....you can only do it once ( with them anyways ). this rod is ridiculously nice for the money ( not that it's cheap ) , but i did hear from many the fury was good too . without coupon, i couldnt find it any cheaper than TW - free shipping...also good reviews on tcs , and denali covert is good too
  8. personally, even though i get the reasons for fluoro , i cant stand the stuff and i really believe that the whole movement towards it's importance has been blown way out of proportion....99 % of bass fishermen are not fishing in CRYSTAL CLEAR water. i do have braid on a couple of reels, and i've been catching most of my fish on mono and yozuri since i was a kid and will continue to do so ...and you can too- i promise . all that being said, i think i might try the sunline sniper....just because
  9. i want to make a rod, and will probably buy a kit to get my feet wet , and buying the tools is cheaper this way also. my question is - what is a decent blank to buy to build a rod that you would consider a med -to higher end rod, something that might cost 200 or so to buy ? not looking for length or action , but brand name and series
  10. i have also done that...i have a lot of faith in megastrike - i put that **** on everything !
  11. i rub the slime into my hands to mask my scent....not a superstition , but a psychological thing
  12. my superstition and rituals are to keep my lines wet as much as possible - it's been working pretty well so far
  13. my first dobyns...never touched one before....but i'm pretty confident that i'll like it - i hear nothing but high praise about this rod...being from the northeast i have plenty of uses for a med 6-9 ( i mistakenly said 663 - its a 693)....i did see in *** review that a med light 693 was a workhorse, so i'm not sure how this med is going to feel, but if a hawg hits me, i should be alright
  14. from central ma...two of my buddies fished a small tournament sat and said the ice was really sketchy - never heard him nervous before !! i love to fish, but taking a chance is just not worth it to catch fish....there are plenty of opportunities , just not THIS winter - be careful guys , and be around in march - ALIVE
  15. i just went through this researching for a jerkbait rod.....i decided ( and ordered !) the dobyns savvy 663 mf - after reading review after review after review, this is what I wanted in a rod, and got it for 135 ( used a 25 dollar coupon for signing up to their site )this rod is supposedly worth a lot more than the money .... the okuma tcs and the denali covert were also on my shortlist, and i might still buy them for light purpose rods, and keep them armed with other compatible lures - just to try them out...i found a couple of rods that i really wanted, but also decided on a strict cut off point - $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
  16. i hear that...tried 12 lb. once on a spinning reel....took it off as soon as I got home....i do have a couple of spins with braid....works fine pulled the trigger....got the 6-9 med with fast tip - pretty pumped up to try it thanks everyone for the advice
  17. thanks....i have two baitcasters for heavy stuff....for everything else, i'm 40 years on spinning gear ,and have most sizes and actions- seems to be the only thing i can use with accuracy....muscle memory i guess i'm asking about the med light because the *** review says " its a tank" ...whatever that means
  18. i've been searching for a new jerkbait rod and i've narrowed it down to a dobyns savvy 6-9 , either med or med light....my question is, does anyone know about the action on this rod , and which one is more suited to a jerkbait....will mostly be throwing 3/8 or 7/16 oz. with it
  19. THE-Vue's.....i'm interested in the 6-9 spinning med + ...can you elaborate on what you mean by weak ? are you talking about the "mat daddy " ?
  20. i'm looking for moderate - want a 6-9 medium for jerkbaits. i'm also leaning towards a dobyn's savvy, which is more money, but probably much better ? i'll save some money and buy the okuma if i hear people like it.sensitive ? strong ?
  21. looking into a new spinning rod (or two)....anybody have or used the scott martin tcs rod by okuma ?
  22. from mass....but i got to stay on little squam for a few months and loved the bass fishing - caught a 6 lb pickerel.....big fish . did big squam and winnie too....awesome fishing - gotta watch those rocks, especially in little squam
  23. talking about the spin shot hooks being weak, not regular hooks
  24. i don't know about your particular reel, but i did read an article recently saying that just about all reels today from overseas share a lot of the same parts, with different levels of quality being in the higher priced reels . they are just assembled in different countries. there are different components in different reels obviously, and a lot of the parts that vary from brand to brand are based on the reels options and capabilities.i'm not claiming to know what all the differences are, and i'm sure some are brand specific, for different braking systems, for example, but i would be confident in saying that the two reels you are talking about are most likely identical. as far as getting good value, i'm a fan of lews reels....they always seem to get great reviews for quality in their price range... my baitcasters are lews along with two of my spinning reels, and the rods get good reviews too
